Coffee Maker Cleaning

Can anyone suggest an effective cleaning product and/or technique for cleaning mildew out of the nooks and crannies in the resevoir of my coffee maker? Since it never dries, the mildew grew really quickly, and now I can't get it cleaned out. It's really disgusting. I made the mistake of looking in it over the weekend, and now I can't bring myself to make coffee with it anymore. The thought of drinking it makes my stomach turn! I'm going to have to find a way to clean it out or replace it. I'd rather not have to spend money on a new one. Any suggestions would be great!

What can I do next?

I always use plain white vinegar to clean out the coffee maker. Fill the reservoir to the top with straight vinegar and run through a couple of times. Then rinse in the same manner with water. Hope this help!

Ditto on the vinegar-I use 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar you don't have to fill the resevoir completely, to about the 6 cup point for a 12 cup coffee maker. I run it through twice, then plain water 2 or 3 times. Also if you have a way to keep it open during the day so it can dry that helps too. I think you will be surprised your coffee will taste so much better after it is cleaned.

We clean it like regular, then get the coffee cleaning stuff from walmart. You make a batch (or a few with it) and it sterilizes it. After We do that we clean it again wth a bleach solution. Dry and done. Hope this Helps. =)

I think CLR used to have a commercial where they cleaned the coffee maker with it, run it through and then 2 cycles with just water. A coworker tried it but I don't know the outcome. Also, you can use vinegar. Add some white vinegar to water and run through.

Instead of a coffee maker... you could try a "French Press" coffee maker.
Its real easy, makes great coffee and that is what we use now solely.

Vinegar, it is a natural cleaner and disinfectant. I have used it many times in my coffee maker. I even "brew" a batch after I have cleaned out the water reservoir :) You can even let it soak in the reservoir prior to taking a scrubber to it, whatever will let you get in the nooks and crannies. Just make sure to follow safety as well, or any "rules" that are in your coffee maker booklet. Happy cleaning and coffee drinking!

I don't know if there's anything you can really do to get rid of mildew. Once that starts, it's horrible to get rid of. I think I'd pitch it and get a new one.

I use white vinegar on a regular basis to clean my coffee maker. I do about 2 cups of vinegar to 8 cups of water. Like others have mentioned I run vinegar through twice, but I use clean vinegar and water each time. Then I run 12 cups of water 3 or 4 times, but I use clean water each time.

I do clean my coffeemaker with vinegar but have never seen mildew. Maybe I'm missing it, but I think if I saw mildew that coffeemaker would be in the trash

In retaraunts we use white vinegar. Just be sure to run clear water through several times before making coffee. You can clean the pot by filling with ice and salt and swishing around to scrub places you can't easily reach.
