I don't know all the details of this process but my mom gets them done twice a week. (YUCK!) I've also read that there is no proven medical benefit from this. There better be some darn good research out there showing something of benefit before you just shove somethin' up my booty!

I know that colon cleansing is supposed to cleanse of all the "junk" or "poisons" we put in our bodies, but our colons should stay naturally clean if we eat right, exercise, and live a generally healthy lifestyle. (no smoking, drinking, etc.) I am not for or against colon cleansing, but I do believe that the advertising is directed at those who believe this is one of those "cure alls." "I can do what I want and cleanse later" type of attitudes will not get the same benefits as someone who generally leads a healthy lifestyle. I do not always eat right, get my exercise in, or not drink, but you need to use common sense about it. Good Luck with your decision. Let us know how it turns out if you decide to venture!

Hi - I have done this - I have also worked in a clinic that provides this service.

Unfortunately our foods are HIGHLY processed and the benefits of colon cleansing is gentle thorough and hydrates while flushing toxins that have been lodged for some time. WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO GET RID OF IT? yuk! A pill just does not do the same.

I have seen people with cancer or other illness do this in addition to other therapies and the combination does create results.

Good luck!

I would do it under the guidance of a naturopath. If you have regular BMs...typically twice a day, I've been told the need is not as great as someone who struggles with constipation and other bowel issues. Sorry for the TMI discussion but its an important thing to address. ALso, a naturopath will address whether you are more acidic or basic. People who's systems are more "basic" tend towards problems with constipation, irritable bowel...people with more "acidic" systems have issues with more loose bowels.

I can't speak for whether or not it is successful or useful for people as a rule...I think you need to be the judge after you've met with someone you trust.

Hello there. I have actually had it done at a salon in Webster Groves and it isn't that bad and is safe. U go in and they basicly put a tube in ur butt and there is a water tank above u on the wall when she turns the knob it fills ur abdomen i guess with waterthen she turns the water off presses on ur abdomen some then turns another knob and releases the water and waste from ur body. She does this a few times it lasts about 30 to 45 min and when it is over u go to the bathroom some and that is it. when she is doing it it feels like u are bloated.

Hi K.,
Don't be embarrassed about colon cleaning. I've done it myself but not using any machine. I have been in the health and nutrition business for over 4 years and I do believe in the benefit from cleansing. 2x-4x/year is the maximum that I recommend. Initially, if you are to start a weight loss program or start on nutritional supplements, then a cleanse is the first step. The cleanse I use not only cleans the colon, but also the digestive tract and liver. An unhealthy colon leads to toxins in the body that can affect other areas in our systems. I can send you more detail information about the colon cleanse to your personal e-mail if you would like to read more. There will be information about each ingredient, what it does, and how you will benefit. It's very easy to use and should be use for 7 consecutive day. Let me know if I can send you more information. Thanks, V.

Hi Pat, I dont know what "machine" that you are talking about ... it sounds scarey!! But I am doing a whole body cleanse right now that is really helping to cleanse the colon. What you need to look for when you do these is all natural & organic ingredients so that its gentle on your body. You should never worry about having to run to the bathroom with explosive results -- that is harsh on your body. Also if you incorporate a good digestive enzyme with your cleanse that will help your body too. Your whole body needs to work together for the best results. If you would like more info about what I am using ... please feel free to contact me anytime.

My question is why you want to do this. I have been through a series of colon cleansings because my digestive system "shut down" after a serious fall that caused a compression freacture of the fifth thoracic vertebrae. Had to be on Percacet for pain - which shut things down.

K.:

I have seen studies for/against colon cleansing. If our bodies work properly (I know mine is a bit sluggish sometimes, if you know what I mean), we should not need to cleanse. On that note, increasing your fiber intake and drinking water with lemon (which helps to detox your liver) are simple steps that you can take. Also, increasing fruits, vegetables and limiting processed food.

Hi K.,
I've not personally had colon cleansing (in a mechanical sense). I did, for about 2 weeks, take a colon supplement. Honestly, I noticed no difference, perhaps because of the short duration.

I will say that eating fiberous foods, though, makes me feel great. When I am eating veggies at every meal (5 times a day) and drinking at least 64 oz - 1 gallon water a day, I feel great and my skin looks fantastic.

Whatever you choose, please do be careful.

Many Blessings! :-}

Hi K.,
This seems to be a really big thing today. I just finished taking herbs for cleansing the parasites from my colon, and elsewhere in my body. I am feeling somewhat better. There are so many problems with my health, starting with diabetes. I read a book called "Top Secret Fat Loss Secrets", which, if you are interested, costs $40 for the eBook...but if you'll email me, I can tell you about what it says. Dr. Suzanne has a lot of good advice. If we could afford to eat like she suggests, we would all be better off, but definitely use herbs for a colon cleanse. Dr. Suzanne suggests what to get, and my husband found it all at Walmart, rather than spending $100-200 for the products she was promoting. Staying healthy in these times is hard, but can be done, even if your parents/grandparents had "this and that". Jan

Hey K., I don't know much about colon cleansing other than I had to clean mine out before my colonoscopy, but you say you are game to try anything that is beneficial you need to try MonaVie. It is a juice blend of 19 fruits including the famed acai berry from brazil. I have been drinking it for 3 months now and my aches and pains are gone (no headaches, stomach aches or foot pain), I'm sleeping better than ever, I have more energy, have lost weight, lowered my cholesterol and feel great! It is also great for the digestive system. My whole family is drinking it and my dad and sisters have problems with constipation. One of my sister's has had to have rectal surgery because of it. Anyway, they all are regular and no more problems since drinking this juice. It has a lot of fiber in it and it is packed full of antioxidants (more than you can get anywhere else) and phytonutrients. 4 oz per day is equivalent to 13 servings of fruits and veggies! It's awesome! Check out my web site to learn more. www.mymonavie.com/daniellerawlings. You can get my phone number there and call me with any questions. I also have a Member Perk on Mamasource so you can get a good deal on some too!

You want healthy, it doesn't get any healthier than this!

Good luck!

Hi. I have cleansed my colon a couple of times and it wasn't a problem. I used charcol and pills and a powder. Your stool at best will come out looking just like the pictures on the internet, it will amaze you (REALLY weird looking)! I feel better when I do it and the program is pretty simple. I have not tried the machine (seems too harsh). Good luck, hope that helps.

Hi K.! Toxins and other things do build up in our bodies, and so a colon cleanse can be really beneficial! I would stay away from the harsh chemicals found in some pills, and look for a natural option. I think some are nothing more than laxatives which don't do a great job of cleaning the sides of the colon and digestive tract.

I have owned my own health and wellness business for almost a year now, and we offer a couple of options to help cleanse the body of toxins. They are pure, safe and benefical - and made of the highest quality available. I can get you some information if you are interested! :)

Hi K.,

Maintaining a healthy colon is nothing to be embarrassed about and more people should think about doing it. An unhealthy colon leads to toxins in the body that can affect other areas of our body and affect our overall health. I believe it's best to do it in a natural way rather then by some machine, but that's just my opinion. Arbonne has a natural colon cleanse supplement that you can take daily or as needed. And, if you're looking for something more extensive, they also have a total body detox/cleanse drink that you take for 7 days. They recommend doing it monthly, but can be done as you feel you need to. It will cleanse not only your colon, but all major organs in your body. Ridding the body of toxins and keeping your colon healthy are very beneficial for your overall health and well-being, as well as weight management/loss. All products they carry are natural and come with a 45 day money back guarantee. I've been very pleased with the results I've had and I feel so much better. I've been a consultant in the health & wellness industry for a few years now and I've had lots of great testimonials on our products. If you would like more information I would be happy to send it to you so you can explore further. Feel free to email me at ____@____.com or visit my website at www.vickimartinez.myarbonne.com. Best of luck to you as you explore options.

Personally, I'd just increase your intake of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Your guts have healthy bacteria that is beneficial for you and too much cleansing can get rid of them or disrupt the balance.

I actually looked into this seriously for a few different reasons, mainly my lifelong issues with my gi tract. Plus, you always hear colonics have weight loss benefits, but that's mainly water weight. I found a lot of stuff online (including a blog written by an avid colon cleanser...???) But the advice I chose to stick with was what a gastroenterolgist told me recently (and Drs Oz and Roisen agreed in one of their books) which was, basically, no. The body cleans out what it needs and cleansers can also put undue stress on your organs. On the site of the "cleansing blogger" she actually put pics of what came out (I know, gag me) and it was nasty...but I suspect it was the product reacting with the body's natural enzymes and that's why it looked so bad. My gastroenterologist told me that the body is, when properly working, a "self cleaning oven" and doesn't have 25 lbs of backed up "stuff".

Colon cleansing is not necessary if you eat a healthy high fiber diet and are active. It's a gimmick!
