I've never been to Snow Mountain Ranch, but we go to the YMCA camp in Estes Park every summer. I LOVE this place! We've been going about 10 years and we have a blast every time. I hate snow, so going in the winter would not appeal to me. So many great activities for the family, and kids of all ages can attend day camp.

Yes, the drive is long. We stop in Amarillo for the night - it is definitely a 2 day drive. I think it is well worth the drive.

I looked it up and it looks amazing and so affordable. I may have to plan a trip there myself next year. Be sure and let me know how you like it after you go.

summer or winter really depends on what you like. If you are used to austin, the cold and snow may be a shock, but it might be a fun change. Love Snow mountain ranch and that area..we are up there all the time. In winter besides winter sports there are sleigh rides. not terribly far from winter park and grand lake area. If you are skiing wiht kids look into solvista --best family skiing in the area! have fun! gorgeous scenery either time of year. just don't do spring--we call it mud season, not much going on then.

I would go in the summer for sure. The winter is VERY COLD up there - it's mountainous and snowy - so unless you want to ski, snowshoe, snowmobile it won't be much fun.

Summer on the other hand is amazing. Not super hot cause your in the mountains - and if you are driving your not contending with weather which in the winter can turn on a dime.

I've lived here (colorado) for almost 15 years and after the kiddos were born and we had to stop snowboarding I became a huge fan of summer in the mountains - it's beautiful. :-)
