Completely Lacking Motivation/energy - Does This Get Better?

Hi ladies,
I'm 6 1/2 weeks pregnant with my second child, and morning sickness is really hitting me with this one (didn't have it with the first one). I am now a SAHM whereas with the last pregnancy I worked as a teacher full time. This time around, I have NO energy or motivation, and I feel nauseous throughout the day until around 5 in the evening. My house is slowly falling apart around me, which usually causes me to clean in a frenzy. All I can do now is watch it fall apart helplessly! My husband is very supportive and understands, but it's still depressing. My question is, does this lack of energy/motivation thing go away like morning sickness usually does after the first trimester, or shall I resign myself to doing nothing but sitting around like a bump on a log for the next 8 months?
Thanks ladies - anyone wishing to voice their own pregnancy complaints are welcome to join in the pity party! :)

What can I do next?

I feel you pain. I was a SAHM with a 2 yr old boy when I was preggers with my daughter. Sad to say, that whole pregnancy I just felt like a bump on a log. No motivation...just sorta sat around. I had probably 1 month during the 2nd trimester when I felt good and had energy. Things were much better after she was born.

Now I am preggers with my 3rd. The first trimester was typical...blah with no energy. However, by about 14 weeks I was feeling better. I am now 21 weeks and still feeling fairly good. Some days I still take an easy day and sit around, but much better then before. I have lowered my expectations of myself...I think that helps. I just do what I feel like doing, and try not to feel bad. I think you just have to accept that with each new addition...you have less time for the house stuff. And that's ok! It happens to all of us!

Good luck and hang in there!

You know what? You're pregnant AND you have a toddler at home. Your house should NOT be perfectly clean! Set realistic goals for yourself, and now is the time to call on friends and family to lend a hand.

Every pregnancy is different, but I was extremely fatigued the first 4 months or so, then I had a wonderful burst of energy for a couple of months, and then I was again fatigued.

Hi,
I think it should get better once you hit your 2nd trimester. I had terrible all-day sickness with my son--I just felt nauseous all the time, but only actually vomited 5-10 times during my 1st trimester. I felt like I was always in bed or on the couch--just exhausted. Once I hit the 12-13 week mark, all of those nasty synptoms diappeared, and I felt like a new woman!! Hope it goes that way for you too :)

Yes, I totally can relate. I am 8 weeks pregnant with my second and what I am experiencing now is nothing like what I felt with my first. I feel like I am in a funk.... no motivation, no energy, constantly nauseous, i feel like i have an eating disorder bc i have to keep eating all day long... but i hate food right now and have no appetite what so ever. Yes, my house has completely fallen apart.. can't keep up with it at all.. which makes me feel yucky too. I feel down bc i can't function and can barely get through the day chasing around my 1 year old. I can't plan anything in the future bc i can't think that far ahead. I am weak, feel like I have the flu 24/27. This is the pits and i hope it is over soon. But i am not trying to count on that either. I have heard of people having this for half of the second trimester too... I pray to God that is not the case... I can't live like this.

I am 5+ wks and I am much more tired with this one than my son. I can't just sleep whenever I want, I have to work around his schedule, plus clean up after him and all that comes with a kid. One day I will have energy but then I'm back to tired again. Hopefully it gets better soon. I have been nauseated on and off but more since yesterday (not sure if a bug or preg related). Be glad your husband understands! Don't be too hard on yourself. oh but I am the same way...

Take a high quality, absorbable B-complex. Pregnant and lactating women may have an increased need for B6 (Pyridoxine). B6 supplementation may help nausea and vomiting during pregnancy and Apgar scores may be significantly better. (source: The Real Vitamin and Mineral Book by Dr. Shari Lieberman, PhD, CNS, FACN and Nancy Bruning).

B vitamins should taken together so take a B-complex so you don't get too much of one and cause a deficiency in another.

Don't be so hard on yourself about the housework.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and this week I cleaned, did laundry, organized my closet, organized our bills, took long walks and was productive at work. Before this time, I did just enough to get by - made it most days to work and pretty much stared at the computer, fed my daughter and got her and I both to bed. That's about it. Just like you, this is my second pregnancy and much more tiring this time around. It WILL go away...just be ok with the fact that you have about 6-8 weeks of this and don't be so hard on yourself if nothing is done for a few months. I feel AWESOME this week. If you had asked me that 2 weeks ago, I'd have mumbled something sad and pathetic and reached for the remote because even talking took too much effort ;)

I didn't have much morning sickness, but I was tired all the time in my first trimester. I just remember waking up one day and all my energy was back!!! But, toward the end of my pregnancy, I turned into a slug again.
