Computer with Internet in Child's Bedroom?

Of course there is the risk of sexual predators, cyber bullying, suicide due to bullying when a child has a computer with internet access in their bedroom. So my question is, if parents are putting their child in danger by putting a computer with internet in their child's bedroom,

is it OK to call Child Protective Services over this, assuming they will investigate it? Of course you call CPS when a parent put's their child in danger.

What can I do next?

Like Jo, I'm so tired of these trolling questions. Same questions, different names, same person. Enough already.

I don't get why your group keeps cooking up these fake posts. I have never put a filter on my child's computers, I have never told them they can't use their computers in their rooms!!!

As crazy as this sounds my kids come to me and ask if a site is safe and if I say it seems questionable they don't go on it. If someone they didn't know contacted them they would bring it to me as well but as it is that has never happened.

Anyway I wish you and your ilk would leave this site alone! Go peddle your BS somewhere else.

For anyone who didn't notice the drama this is last weeks iteration. http://www.mamapedia.com/questions/3945625659933720577

Absolutely! Call Homeland Security, the Secret Service and the FBI too;)

Edit- I apologize if this is a real question. I honestly thought it was a joke. My kids have access to the Internet and it really did not occur to me that anyone would think I was putting my children in danger. (We frequently talk about the dangers of "meeting" people online. Bottom line is, I believe my kids are safely using the Internet.

At one time it made sense to say that you could protect your child from all of those things by not putting a computer in a child's bedroom, and instead keeping it in a common area of the home. That really is no longer the case. I just took an internet safety for kids course, and they pointed out that even if children don't have computers in their bedrooms they do have access to the internet with handheld devices such as ipod's, tablets and phones. They also have internet access via gaming systems, at public places like libraries and community centers, at friends homes. It is almost everywhere. Anyway, at the course they said the best way to protect a child from the dangers you have mentioned is to teach children about the dangers, teach children to act as their own filters, and teach safe and responsible use of the internet. I know these things are taught in schools here. If a child has been taught these things, then the child is not in danger by having private internet access. In my home we do not have computers in our bedrooms, but that is simply because our bedrooms are used only for sleeping.

I'm not a fan of computers that have internet access in a child's bedroom, but that doesn't mean I think it should be illegal. There's such a thing as parental controls, some children/teens can be better trusted than others.

That said, no, it's not okay to call CPS if you know someone that allows their child to have a computer or other device with internet access in their own bedroom unless you know or suspect that there's a court order forbidding such a thing.
