Considering Uterine Eblation Surgery-Any Advice Welcome

I have never had the surgery done, but am scheduled to have it done on February 29th. My step mom had it done and said it was the best thing she ever did. The surgery was short and easy, she gets no more periods, cramps, and she is much less moody. I'm a little scared like I might feel like less of a woman if I don't get my period and can't have any more kids, but I would love to not have to plan my life around my period. Do you have a surgery scheduled, or are you just thinking about it? M. M

I am 31 years old and had this procedure done in November 2007. I experienced the same problems. i was hesitant about going through with because of the certainty of not being able to have more children. After my husband and I talked about it, it was the best decision for me. The healing process was not bad at all. The drs told me I could bleed for up to 8 weeks. And that this was no guarntee that I would no longer bleed but if I did it would be much less. The surgery was nothing. Same day procedure and done as an outpatient. I had hardly any pain and was fine by the second day. I had no bleeding during the recovery and to date I have not had a period. I do not experience any PMS symptons either. Having the surgery was the best thing I could have done. As you know, everyones recovery is different. Hope this helps!

This April will be 2 years since i had that surgery done at age 39. I too had irregular and heavy bleeding.
Beyond some normal cramping after the procedure, I was up and moving that day without issue. And the greatest thing is, i haven't had a period since the procedure.
However, I do still get sore breasts, and light cramping around the time I ovulate. Lucky for me, I was done with babies (had my last at 37).
If you are sure you are done having babies, then this surgery may be the answer to the problems you are having.

My name is S. M. and I've had that surgery. I used to suffer from serious cramps, heavy bleeding the whole nine yards. The surgery was the best thing for me. I haven't had any problems since.

I am a member of an online woman's group and just today someone posted about it and got a very positive response back from those who have had it. According to what one woman wrote, you will not be able to carry another child after you have this done. And you will have to use birth control. But it did relieve her bleeding. Best of luck to you.

Hi D., I have been suffering with heavy bleeding and cramps for years. I just had the uterine eblation done in October. I haven't had any bleeding or cramps since then, it is wonderful, being pain and period free certainly has its reward. I would highly recommend the procedure, if you are no longer going to have anymore children. Hope this helps.

I do know a couple of people who have had it and it's supposed to help. I had similar issues but I didn't go the alation route, I had the mirena iud. Good luck

Yes, I did have it done. It worked perfect for me, but not every procedure is for everyone. It can work where you have no menstruation again, to a small amount to even (rare) still have a regular cycle. In my case, I barely have it now once a month for only a little over a day. And it is extremely light. Cramping doesn't occur at all for me. It is an outpatient procedure and you have to take it easy for a day or two. I'm very happy that I had it done.

I had uterine balloon therapy. They inserted a balloon in the uterus, filled it with water and heated it to 180 degrees. It was an outpatient procedure and was the best thing I ever did. I had it done on a Friday and was back to work on Monday. Just felt sore and crampy but nothing like I was use too. I had this done in January of 2007 and have not had a period sence. This past year was the best of my life. I didn't have to plan my life around "That Week" every month. You won't be sorry!!!

Hi, D. I am a 39 year old married with 2 children that are 10 years apart. I suffered through many years of infertility while trying to have a second child, years of heavy periods and horrible cramps took it's toll on me I had an ablation at 32 after deciding that I was not going to have a 3rd child, my periods were OK for about 3-4 months then they went right back to how they had been before the surgery, I eventually convinced my OB GYN to do a partial Hysterectomy and that was the best decision I ever made. No more pain better sex life and no more periods.

I had the endometrial ablation (Novasure)surgery done back in 9/07. The healing process for me took longer than expected - almost 2 weeks. My periods were very good at first, very light with only a tiny bit of spotting. However, I am now going back into my old ways. Periods are lasting for nearly a week with days of heavy bleeding. I've had this procedure (novasure) done 2 years ago along with essure (sterilization) at the same time. When I had it done I had cramping after the procedure but a super dose of motrin helped - they gave me percocets which did not help with the pain. I'm not sure if the cramping was from the novasure or the essure procedure. There was no downtime and no healing time - I wasn't allowed to have sex for about a month but I'm not sure if that was related to the novasure or the essure procedure. My periods are virtually non existant now. Sometimes I don't even know I'm having a period. The only thing I have to say - and I haven't spoken to my ob/gyn about it yet - and knowing doctors she's probably going to say there is absolutely no connection - but ever since the procedure it seems like I can't have orgasms, or they take much longer or they are not very intense at all. I've had both procedures so it's hard to say which, if either, have affected it and I've tried to research it on the internet but haven't found it listed as a side effect. In a nutshell - it is a super easy procedure with no downtime and if you don't want to deal with periods anymore I'd go for it. One other piece of advice I'd like to mention. I'm very much into natural health now. When I had this procedure I didn't know too much about natural health. You might want to research how diet may effect your period - especially animal products. There's a good book called the China Study. I wish I would have tried diet first (going vegetarian) and eating tons of fruits and veggies first to see how that would have effected my periods - I have a feeling it would have made it much better. And I do wonder how not having my period is affecting my hormones - we are supposed to have a period for a reason and I wonder if I have upset the balance of hormones in my body.
