Exercise is the most important thing for me. Also, good probiotics (try iherb.com for great prices and reviews) and fresh fruit, ie., apples, melon, etc. I've suffered with IBS for years and these things help keep it under control. One more thing - destress by relaxation techniques. Stress causes more problems and disease than anything in the body.

Stear clear of bananas, rice, apples (including apple sauce and juice), and toast or breads as all are extremely binding foods usually recommended to ease vommitting and diarrhea. Try Miralax (use according to package directions), flax seed oil, psylium husks, or a suppository/enema.

Tell her to drink down two large glasses of water in succession. This happened to me last time I was pregnant and NOTHING else worked! I drank down the water and within 10 mins I had to go!
Also, every day drink a lot of water/real fruit juice, eat bananas & FIBER, FIBER, FIBER.
Citrucel works too. Poor thing! I am preg. again now so I totally know about constipation.

From the web:
The Power of Lemon Water
Lemon water helps clean the toxins out of your body. Your skin can't look healthy if your body is holding onto toxins! When you get rid of toxic waste in your system, your skin will show it first! Your skin will be the first thing you notice cause it looks clear and not sallow and full of acne. However, that's not all the benefits that lemons provide for us! (Another healthy way to get rid of toxins that hold onto your fat and cause visceral fat, is by doing a health cleanse!)
Lemon can help relieve many digestion problems when mixed with hot water. These include nausea, heartburn, constipation and parasites. It is even known to help relieve hiccups when consumed as a juice. Lemon juice acts as a liver tonic and helps you digest your food by helping your liver produce more bile. It decreases the amount of phlegm produced by your body. It is also thought to help dissolve gallstones.
Because of its high Vitamin C content, it is used to prevent and treat many infections, hasten wound healing, and diminish allergies. Lemon juice also relieves symptoms of asthma, tonsillitis, and sore throats.

They do have little laxitive pills you can take for it, and they do help get things moving in a natural way! Also, she can eat Fiber one cereal a few times a week (I mix a 1/2 cup in with Special K and the taste is actually really good!) and that keeps things on time as well! Hope she feels better soon!

Smooth Move Tea is very gentle and very effective. You can get it at any health food store. Here's link just to show her what it looks like.
http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp... Tell her to drink it when she gets home. It could work fairly soon. It may hit in the morning. There is a pressure point on the top of the bicep. Light steady pressure for 20 seconds or so two or 3 times. She'll know when she hits the right spot, it will be very tender.
It could be due to many different reasons, stress, lack of exercise, diet, food allergies, emotional issues, lack of water, reaction to a prescription, etc. I'm not sure how close you are or if you feel you can offer this information, but it is important to figure out the root cause and address that.

a HUGE glass of water with a pinch of sea salt ought to help her out....
then once it does, she should keep drinking water on a regular basis..
so often, women don't and it doesn't even occur to them that constipation can be a result
best of luck

Yup, prune juice. I had a time where I had that problem a lot, and I would drink prune juice. Actually, I preferred Gerber's little bottles of Apple Prune Juice. It actually tastes MUCH better!!

Dulcolax suppositories. Need to do them at home in the evening, she will be good to go very soon after. Also she may need to take a fiber supplement regularly to help.

You've gotten lots of great answers. I work with a botanical health and wellness company. We have a couple product that would help. Colon cleanse supplement pills, a powder fiber shake that is tasteless, and a detox cleanse drink. All are amazing and gentle and are made with the best ingredients you can find. They are also certified vegan. Www.marybethb.myarbonne.com. M. ###-###-####

After my mom had surgery, the pain pills did the same to her. My mom is allergic to virtually everything so the nurse told her to drink 1/4 cup olive oil mixed with 1/4 cup of orange juice. (I'm not entirely sure about the proportion, but I think the oj just makes the oil palatable.) It worked like a charm! Warning: Don't try this remedy unless you're near the bathroom.
good luck

I just got a good suggestion from a magazine called "Bottom Line" (no pun intended). Constipation: 1-2 tspns.ground flaxseed with 8oz. water or 1/2-tspn Triphala (3-fruits from amalaki, bibhitaki andharitaki trees) to one cup of warm water morning/evening or daily if chronic. I guess hit the health food store...

I didn't read the other posts but glycerin suppositories are the best! This is when it is too hard to come out... just put the suppository up there and she'll be going in less than ten minutes! :) I did that after colace twice a day for a week and tons of water - that was post baby so constipation was terrible!

Pears. Pear juice or just pears. That's what my child's pediatrition suggested when my son first got constipated. I now use it for the whole house whenever any of us have any problems. And up the water intake, as much as she can take. I will sometimes add a bottle of gatorade in the beginning to help balance things out if part of the cause was dehydration.

Please recommend Juice Plus capsules to her. Eliminating constipation is one of the most obvious benefits in addition to just helping people get plenty of fruits and vegetable nutrition in their blood protecting them from illness. Check out wethriveonjuiceplus.com for more info. I have many clients who are so thankful they found Juice Plus for this reason. You are a good friend!
