Hi Moms,

I recently discovered Coramega Fish Oil liquid packets for my children. Coramega is an excellent brand and contains no mercury. It also has equal amounts (I hear equal amounts is important) of EPA and DHA. The flavor (orange - also comes in lime) is great - my kids love it and it is not fishy at all. The instructions say not to give to children under age 4. My youngest son will be 3 next month. I am so tempted to give it to him, but haven't because of that darn age restriction. Can any of you think of a reason why a child under 4 y/o should not take this healthy fish oil? Also, would you give it to your 3 y/o? Thank you!

What can I do next?

Omega 3 supplementation is great for any age, so do not be worried about giving this to your 3 year old. We have been giving supplements like this to our daughter since she was 2 with no issues at all. In fact, if you look at the research, it is recommended for pre natal as well.
The one issue you have to take a look at is that omega 3's from fish oil are not absorbed into the body as easily as the form of supplement we use, which is from Krill oil. The reason is that fish oil omega 3's are suspended in triglycerides, which need to be broken down by the body. Where Krill oil is suspended in phospholipids, which is what your cells are made up of and makes absorption almost instantaneous.
If you want more information on all of this just send me a message!
BTW, your whole family should be taking Omega 3 supplements, it has an effect on a wide range of health issues!

Always ask your child's pediatrician before using supplements. They're not even government regulated, so you want to make sure what you're giving your child is safe for your particular child.

Nothing comes to mind here...?
I think the age restrictions on stuff like that is really just a guideline for litigious reasons. 4 seems like a pretty arbitratry age for it to suddenly be OK. :)
