Could Daughter Have Ear Infection with No Fever?

I have an almost 22 month old daughter. She generally is a really good sleeper, but this past week, has not been sleeping very well at all. (Naps and bed time) She has no fever, but has said a couple of times her ear hurts. She doens't hold or pull on it or complain of pain all day long or anything, but I feel like something is definitely off. She has not had an ear infection in over a year, and is generally pretty healthy. In the past, when she has had ear infections, she has had a really high fever. Is it possible for her to have an ear infection but no fever? Trying to decide if I should take her to the doctor or not. She is not miserable all day long or anything, and her appetite is as hearty as ever. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

So What Happened?

So I took my daughter to the doctor this morning and they said there was nothing wrong with her. The doctor said since she had been sick, she probably just got in the habit of waking up frequently and now we need to break that habit. Thanks for all your responses and I feel better knowing I at least had it checked out.

Yes, a child can have an ear infection with no fever. Neither of my kids have ever had a fever with ear infections. Once I took my son for a suspected ear infection. I figured while I was there the doctor may as well look in my daughter's ears. My son had no ear infection. My daughter did - in both ears!

If you are concerned at all, I say go to the doctor. My 3 year old has had one ear infection and my 1 year old has had four. Not once did they have a fever with them.

hi there! yes, your sweet one can have an ear infection. my ladybug has only had 2 ear infections (she 6 now) and we found out both times by accident when we were in for her regular check up. not only was there no fever, but there really wasn't any other signs either. just a bit of not wanting to go to sleep.

so yes, have he checked out.

be well!

It could definitely be an infection. One other possibility to consider is that she may have a buildup of ear wax that is pressing on her ear drum. Our doctor told us that you may be able to remove this at home by simply putting mineral oil in her ear and having her lay there for about 10 minutes with it soaking in. Then turn her head so it drains out on its own (don't use q-tips). If that doesn't work, then definitely take her to the doctor. My daughter had a pretty bad ear ache last year, and our former pediatrician removed the ear wax with a high-speed water jet into her ear. Which removed the wax, but made her ear bleed and was so painful for her. (Needless to say, we left that doctor in a hurry.) Our new doctor gave us the mineral oil tip and that has worked really well for us!
