Could My 3 Month Old Be Teething??? - Anderson,SC

I know it sounds weird, but my 15 week old son is knawing his hand off! He always has as much of his entire hand in his mouth as he can! He still takes a pacifier, but usually prefers his hand. He's still learning to grab, so we're working on giving him teeting rings and toys he can chew. And the drool is out of control! This all comes at the same time he has a cold, with fever. (it's been a week now...)
So I'm not sure if he's teething or not. What do you all think?
* Side note: I have taken him to the dr and he was diagnosed with a "cold", including fever - it's viral. But I just forgot to ask about the teething.

He probably is! The teething symptoms can start a long time before you see a tooth. My first had his two bottom teeth at 4 months, and really never exhibited much in the way of classic teething signs, but my 7 month old baby is a classic teether -drooling, gnawing, fussiness -the whole nine yards since he was about 3 months. He now has his two front bottom teeth, but they've taken a good 2 1/2 months to appear, push through and grow up in his mouth.

yes he could be teething. teething starts way before teeth actually come out.
And take him to the Dr for that cold , colds don't come with fever , virus' do . He could also have an ear infection, the chewing can relieve the pressure.

Sounds like teething. And teething can cause a runny nose, slight fever and diareha as well. Most DRs will pass off these things as colds or a 'bug' and that's that. If he seems to be in pain from it you can give him tylanol or teething tablets to help.

Good luck!

It very well could be--teething starts a month or two before that 1st tooth appears. My daughter started drooling and chewing at about 3 1/2 months and cut her 1st tooth at 5 months.

My now 10 month old, phoebe, was a drool machine at three months and into her fourth month. She wore a bib all day, everyday except when she was sleeping and that had to be changed up to three times a day because it would get soaked after a few hours. Ironically she didn't get her first tooth until she was almost 9 months old. I have read that it is all just part of the oral development. Let him get his hands on some teethers and other toys. There nothing wrong with him chewing his hands but the toys will help him to work on that grip.

Yes, he could be teething. Before going to the doctor, start a list of questions to ask. Or call the doctor's office and ask them could he be teething?
