Crawling Out of Crib

I would try getting one of those tents that go over the crib. It is a netting material and will prevent him from crawling out.

When both my brother & my daughter started climbing out of thier cribs we got them a bed & put up a bed rail so that they wouldn't fall out. I don't know if there is anything to put over the crib to keep your son in it so that he doesn't go & wake up his brother. Make sure the baby's crib is high enough so that your 20 mo old can't hurt him. But once they start climbing (or in my brother's case, jumping) out of the crib, it's definitely time to get him his own bed.

You could try the crib tent, it is safe. We got it to keep the cats out of my daughter's crib. The matress goes into the net and there are two poles that cross at the top. The zipper is on the outside so it would take some time to figure out how he could get out. But all in all, I would tough it out and put him in a bed. We did this at 1 1/2 months and she did well. The first week is hell, but it does happen. You can make it fun by getting character bed sheets or even a tent bedcover (walmart has them). It's up to you. I also put a gate up at the doorway, just so she doesn't wander out in the night. It truthfully matter to you, what you feel comfortable with. If you worry about your little one, use the crib tent for him. Trust me if the cats can't get in, your 20 month old can't. Those cats are crafty! Good luck! Jen PS. Nightmare!!!! Well, mine are 8 and 10 now, but, I saw this cool safe "net" that domes over the crib just so they can't crawl out. It was made by a Mom just for that reason. I think I saw it in that baby catalog that has EVERYTHING. What is the name?... It carries everything from toys, feeding, slings, cool carriers for everything you need. Ugh... I will remember at 2am I'm sure. Will write when I remember it. B.B.

my friend has had GREAT success with a crib tent
they are pricey but she got a good deal on ebay (you could also try craig's list)

I would (this is what I did do)just quietly & firmly put him back in his crib when he comes out, say 'night night' or whatever you say and leave the room
then if he does it again, repeat...
it'll be a pain in the rear for a night maybe two, but he'll get the idea...

If you don't think he's ready for a bed, try getting a crib tent. They are completely safe, affordable and will let you rest much easier. I got one for my daughter as soon as she was big enough to stand up in her crib. Just do a Google search for crib tent and you should find some options. Here's just one

I'm not sure if anyone else has recommended this, but they make crib tents that fit over the top of a crib. It's mesh so he can see out and has a zip up front so it's easy for you to get him in and out (but zipper is on the outside, so he can't open it up).
They sell them at babycenter.com although they may have them at babies r us, too.
We used it with our daughter when she started crawling out of her crib at 18 months. What I did was set it up in the living room first. I got her blanket and bedtime buddies (ernie, elmo and cookie monster) and brought them under it. Then I got her and we played under it all afternoon. Then I told her, I was going to put her special tent on her bed so she could sleep under it, too. So when the time came for her to go to sleep under it, she thought it was a special treat. There came a time, when I would forget to zip it up, that she would call me back into her room to zip up the tent.
They're about $50, but well worth the investment. We used it on our daughter's crib till she was 3 and we converted her crib to a bed (and even then she wanted the tent on for a few nights).
