Crib Bumper Alternative

Seems the conventional ones I used with my older son are no longer regarded as safe. Are there any alternatives to help keep arms and legs from getting caught between the slats? Our baby is a real mover and shaker and in addition to rolling over he's already spinning circles and getting his feet caught.

Thanks

The cribs today have slats that are really close together. I thought 2 inches or less was the common way, so that baby's can't get their extremities through them. I haven't had a little one in a long long time so I could be wrong.

I don't know what to tell you, sorry, but I know you'll think of something. Have you tried pinterest and searching for baby bed bumper alternatives?

I found a bunch of different options.

Wonder Bumpers from Go Mama Go Designs is a wrap that goes around each pole and it pads it just enough that feet and arms won't fit through.

Olli Ella Bumpettes is another option.

Just use what you have. They worked for your oldest right. You can go buy something else and then next week you will find it is not safe. Bumpers have been used for a long long time without any issues. Make sure they are tied tightly.

I've seen the mesh ones at Babies R Us I think it was. My niece did research though and found that that these aren't recommended now anyhow, either. I'm not sure why not - my pack and play had mesh sides and they slept in that once they were too old for a bassinet.

I used the mesh ones considered "safe" now for awhile but then he started trying to use them to climb on so I ditched them and lowered the crib. Now I've been using his dockatot in there and it's working well for us, he rolls around but the high edges on the dockatot keep him snug and away from the slats.

I suggest that anything you find on the market, in a store, on line, is safe as far as the experts know what's safe. Because I don't know what you used before I don't know how it compares to what is on the market.

You could find out what made what you used before unsafe and look for bumpers that resolved those issues.

My daughter stopped using a crib bumper when her first child started pushing her feet beneath it and caught them between the slats anyway.

I've read to not use a bumper once the baby stands because baby can climb on it. I can't visualize and sort of bumper that couldn't be climbed on.

You could put a large clean sturdy cardboard box into the crib and have him sleep in that.

I used the breathable baby mesh bumper. I got it from Toys R Us. My daughter was rolling over in the hospital the night she was born so she's always been a roller and squiggler. I actually wrapped it around my face for five minutes while I cleaned and it truly is breathable. It did prevent her tiny infant feet from getting stuck but it isn't padded so won't prevent her head from bumping the crib rails. It's basically just a thin mesh material that wraps around the slats so it can't be used as a step up to climb out of the crib. I still worried about that though. Mine just freaked out when her feet got stuck. Hitting her head didn't bother her at all. And yes her crib was new and met all the new standards. Sadly, kids have gotten hurt and worse with traditional bumpers that's why they are encouraged not to be used. Unfortunately, not all products are safe that are sold (think GMO foods). Some bumpers sold are not safe.
