I dissolve an aspirin (uncoated - till the tablet falls apart) and add that to the little bit of shampoo I wash my hair with. It clears it up for me within a few days.
Hi. I have had dandruff for a long time--mostly it's just a film on my head and when I scratch my head it gets in my nails, but it's not flakey. The dermatologist gave me a prescription that is a solution that I put all over my scalp twice a day. Well, instead of getting better, it got a lot worse. It became really itchy and really flakey. After about 1 1/2 weeks of this I called the dr. and asked 1. how long I am supposed to use this before it starts working 2. Is it supposed to get worse before it gets better and 3. Will I have to take this twice a day for the rest of my life?
The doctor said I would have to use it for a month before it started working and yes it gets worse before it gets better and I'll need to take it when ever I have a dandruff episode. So needless to say, I'm not taking it anymore. It didn't make sense to me take it when it makes my dandruff really bad for a whole month. And that this would happen every time my dandruff returned.
So my question is that I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else out there--where you were prescribed a solution for your scalp and it just made your dandruff worse or did it actually make it better for you? And if it did make it better, did it take a month? Also, has anyone had used something that worked really well for dandruff--prescription or over the counter? FYI: Right now I'm also using T-gel shampoo. Thanks for your help!

I use the T-gel shampoo and conditioner. It works pretty well for me. My mother used to use a cream/ointment called "Tegrin". Reducing your stress levels can help with break-outs, but I have a hard time reducing stress. Maybe you will do better. Hope this was some help.

Yes, I've had problems with dandruff but found the best solution is peppermint. I've used a peppermint shampoo by Bed Head that works well, but the best solution is to just add peppermint essential oil to my shampoo and conditioner. I put about 10-20 drops into each of my bottles. The absolute best essential oil comes from a company call doTerra, check it out... http://www.doterra.myvoffice.com/blancabowman/
Good luck!!!!!!!
My tween has been having this problem until April when I started using a Rosemary mint shampoo and alternating with either vitamin shampoo or a clarifying shampoo. However, this past month, the oily hair and a few "salt" like dandruffs have returned @#*&%! I don't know if it's from the handful of times she went in a pool or something else. I always put conditioner in her hair prior to swimming and she washes her hair soon after swimming. Of course, none of her peers are having a problem like this, so now it's a big concern for her!
Hi there, I'm not sure if you have the same issue I have had in the past, but it sounds similar to what I have experienced: https://health.google.com/health/ref/Seborrheic+dermatitis. Over the counter shampoos like T-gel did not help. What did help is hydrocortisone cream on the areas it occurred. I just put it on at night. You could also try switching your hair products occassionally, so your skin doesn't get used to them. However, the first thing I would do if you don't already is to take a high quality fish oil, that might clear it right up for you. I suggest Nordic Naturals liquid oil in lemon flavor. It has no fishy taste and I can even take it on a empty stomach with none of the gross fish burps.
Prescriptions and T-gel do make it worse before better. As a stylist I always recommend Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner as an alternative and it sooths the itching too.
If you're looking for a more natural cure, eating Ayurvedic foods can help. You're probably missing some essential oils or something. Good luck!
