Daughter Has Skin Irritation

A few days ago, I noticed that my 7 year old has a skin irritation right above her lip. It is red and I know she keeps licking it. I put neosporin on it with no improvement. She has complained that it hurts and she will put a cold wash cloth on it for relief. Any ideas or things I could try to put on it?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We used some chap stick and it immediately helped. Today it is much improved and will most likely be completely cleared up in just a couple days. Thank you for all the responses! Great advice and I will keep it in mind should we ever have this situation again.

Give her some of her own chapstick to put in her pocket that she can apply throughout the day. And then maybe put some Carmex on it to keep on overnight.

You might want to reconsider using neosporin. It can actually cause more irritation, and people can develop allergies to it.

Lansinoh can also be helpful for skin irritation, as well as many of the other products people recommended

My son had the same issue. It drove me crazy to see him constantly licking it! He keeps a Burt's Bees chapstick in his pocket and I put coconut oil or Renew from Melaluca on it at night. It worked for us!

My 6.5 yr old son has the same thing, only on the bottom of his lips by his chin. I see him licking it all the time and have to remind him to stop licking. We use Burts Bees chapstick on it, and also the straight up Carmex in a tube. HE HATES the Carmex because it burns, but it was also a good reminder to him to stop licking or he'll have to keep using it. Its been about 2wks, and I think we finally have it under control, but we had to be really diligint about reminding him to stop licking his lips, and ot keep the Burts Bees chapstick on him at all times. Isent a tube to school with him in his jeans pocket, but I have no idea if he remembered to put it on or not!

I wouldn't put anything like Neosporin or Aquaphor, etc on it because she will inevitably lick it, and you don't want her ingesting that stuff. Stick with BUrts Bees (beeswax) chapstick, or Carmex, Natural Ice, a good quality chapstick, and keep it on her at all times, slob it on her at night too to create a barrier.

My daughter just had that right below her lower lip. The only thing that worked for me was Renew by Melaleuca, and it worked in just one day too.

My daughter had the same thing. I bought some vitamin E capsules. Just poke a hole in one and squirt the liquid on to the lip and rub it in. My Daughter's cleared up pretty quickly after trying this.

Rub some Bag Balm on it. We use that for everything ~ it's is especially great on chapped lips!
