Hello Ladies,
I would love some inpute on day treamtment facilities for my 7 year old. Unfortunately she has regressed to her anxiety, fears, tantrums and violent outbursts. Her therapist and spychiatrist have decided that she needs day treament so that she can re-integrate back to school and activities. My insurance doesn't cover Children's, where she's been seen, so they cover these groups Timberlawn, Millwood in Arlington, Hickory Trail (DeSoto). I haven't heard good things about Timberlawn and would prefer to take her to a place more 'child' oriented. I know all these have programs for kids. Your ratings will help regarding if you've visited, know someone who's been, used their services...etc. My gut feeling is leaning towards Millwood, but I'm in the dark here, these won't be her regular doctors at any of these facilities.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hello Ladies,
My daughter is now in the day treatment and she seems to be doing better. We will begin more counseling sessions and hopefully she will be out of the day treatment program soon. The Millwood Hospital offers kids their own place called, The Excel Center. It's quite far, but I will do what I need to make sure she gets betters. Tomorrow I will find out what they have to say after working with her for 6 days.

Please seek a second opinion before putting a 7 year in any expansive treatment program. Several of our students have been to Millwood and are able to come back to us with minimal disruptions. You might want to look into a specialized school such as The St. Anthony School or Great Lakes Academy prior to the treatment center. Good luck and keep your head up.

I am so sorry that you are having to experience such difficult times. My heart goes out to your daughter as well. If it is feasible for you to travel to Greenville, I would suggest you look into Glen Oaks. We thought the care our son got there was first rate. The psychiatrist we worked with was very helpful.

He was at Timberlawn a prior time. The care he received seemed to be ok but we were unhappy with not being able to talk more directly with doctors responsible for his care. We felt clueless as to what was going with him. The lack of communication was frustrating for us.

Good luck to you.

V.,
I'm so sorry. I can only imagine how hard this is for you, especially being a single mom. I do not know about these facilities but I did want to lend you support. I'd say find a chair. Wait for a moment when it is quiet. Take a deep breath and close your eyes. Let your heart tell you what to do. Trust that gut.

You will pick the right place.
P.
