Lake Livingston Park is beautiful but also is Sam Houston which is just up by Huntsville if you have never been there and was just recently to the Big Thicket which is out I-10 and then north a little ways at Beaumont. You can find out all the info. on the web for any of these.

Huntsville State Park - stright up 45 to one mile south of Huntsville. Easy trip - about an hour or hour and a half.

Oh my gosh! My absolute favorite is Brazos Bend State Park down by Needville. It's only 50 miles south west of Houston. Great to go biking or hiking. It is gorgeous. My young boys absolutely love going there. They over 30 miles of hike/bike trails and a nice nature center. Livingston is OK, we take our boat out there, but if you are daytripping it and don't have a boat I would go with Brazos Bend. I have never been to Villiage Creek. I also like Huntsville but it doesn't compare to Brazos Bend. At least not in my book. :) Sorry if this is late advice, but think about it for next time.

I grew up in Lumberton, and went to viallage creek alot! If you go to the actualy park part, you have to hike about 1/2 mile through the woods to get to the beach and the trail is not easly laid out. If you have young kids, its not ideal! If you go to where the cano rentals are (under the bridge not in the actaul park) its easier to get to and theres realy no "beach" to speak of there. I have never been too Lake Livingston, so I cant give you any info there. Viallage creek is good if your camping, but that about it.
