Ok so a week ago I had my tubes tied...I had recently been put on an antidepressant for PPD. It is now not working anymore...The other thing I am up against is my health ins through the state runs out the end of Aug. Scary feeling. So I can still get into see my doc for another month but do you think that having my tubes tied could cause the old antidepressant to not work? Is there a hormonal change with getting them tied? I didnt think so but now feel that there maybe a link...And does anyone know of a inexpensive self ins plan?? to be on my hubs it would be over a grand a month so that is out of the question.

What can I do next?

Having your tubes "tied" just means that there is something clamping them off. Whether it is a clip across them or they were cauterized, they are no longer open tubes from your ovaries to your uterus. Your ovaries produce hormones and should not be affected by your tubes. Your ovaries are still producing the same amount of hormones that they were before your tubal ligation.

When I had my son, I had really bad post partum depression that lasted about 6 months or so...maybe a little longer (he's 4 now and i can't remember exactly how long). I used to have waking nighmares and everything. Perhaps your meds are being affected by some post partum depression? I know I suffer from chronic depression and after I had my son, it threw my whole system for a loop. I am guessing that may have something to do with it. I wish I could help you on the insurance front. I can't believe it costs over $1000/month to add you. I've never worked for a company that even would charge me half that to add my partner. At that point, you are almost better off not paying for insurance and just saving up (like in an account you set up for medical expenses) and paying per visit.

Hi E.,
I had my tubes tied when I had my second baby. I also had PPD but mine started while I was pregnant. Really nothing changes with your hormones when you get tied. Sometimes your body can build up a tolerance to anti-depressants. You might want to call your doctor or the nurse to see if they can change up your meds or your dosage. Is your OBGYN writing this or your family doc? If your OB is doing it check with your family doc.
Unfortunatley... I have no info on self insurance. I would for sure ask the book-keeper at your or your kids doctor office. They might have some good insight on how plans compre since they do billing.
Good Luck!
MJ

Having your tubes tied isn't causing this. I have also battled depression (it's the dirty little secret moms never want to admit to or talk about it seems like which is so dumb). Anyway, my doctor told me there are lots of anti-depressants out there. She said it's like trying on jeans. A pair that looks fabulous on one person looks horrible on another. You have to just keep trying them until you find one that works for you. In addition, the one I used after he birth of my first child did not work for me after the birth of my second. My best advice to you is don't give up. You can and will feel better when you find the one that works for you. And when you are feeling better you'll be able to look back and say "wow...I'm never going back there."

I'm happy to correspond with you more about this. So feel free to email back. So obviously you've had your third baby (I remember all of your frustration with being sent home, etc.). Did you have a boy or a girl?

Good luck E....believe me you're not alone here!

PS...I'm a sahm to 9 and 5 year old girls married for 11 years.

Washington State Basic Health is an insurance plan that you pay for based on your income and the amount of people in your family. It also covers dental and vision (I think). You can apply online and then you send in the required paperwork. Also, my friend had her tubes tied about 4 years ago after her third child. She told me that it can mess with your hormones and she experienced depression for a while after the procedure. I hope everything starts better for you really soon!! God Bless
