I was wondering how many moms out there give your kids Vitamin A supplements? I have recently started to give my kids Nordic Naturals DHA supplements. So far they both have been responding great. Their hair is shinier and there skin is softer. Both of them suffer from eczema and I have noticed a huge improvement in their skin. The one drawback I have noticed is my son is starting to smell like fish. It was comical at first but now it's getting a little yucky to our senses. I was wondering if their was anyone out there going thru the same thing and how you handle it. He only gets a 1/2 tsp daily while my DD gets 1 tsp. It is strawberry flavored and they love taking it. I have tried both the liquid and chewable capsules.
The smell seems to be coming from his pores. I am trying to figure out if he is just spilling some on himself when he chews it or if it really is just coming out his pores.

What can I do next?

My son also usese the Nordic Naturals DHA product. And takes a 1/2 tsp daily. He does not have the smell at all or fish breath. How are you administering it? I put it in his "green machine" juice from "NAKED" and that I am sure disguises it taste and any minor smell as well. From what I understand from the company their vitamins are the purest of pure; and they do not contain any mercury so I was lead to believe based on what I was told by the company they are completely safe. My son will not eat "safe" fish right now; he used to when he is was smaller but has refused it for quite some time; so, I believe I am truly doing what is best for him. It has helped with language development, his skin, hair and everything. One thing I love about their products much unlike a lot of what is at the grocery story; is that their are no snythetic fillers. These are the pureset of pure vitamins and its the synthetic vitamins that you have to be worried about. Sorry I can not offer a solution about the smell that your child is experiencing.
Best of luck,
K.

Kudos to you for helping your children live heatlhier :)
Even though it is wonderful to supplement you do have to be careful with children. Fish oil and some of the other supplements can have high levels of toxicity.

If you are looking for a more natural supplement that will get better results without the smells and risk of toxicity you can visit www.LiveTotalWellness.com/Texas to request info on safer alternatives for eczema and nutrition.

I also send you a PM with my phone number. My children are 2 and 4 and have done so well with these supplements, I would love to share them with you.

Maybe it's too much for his system and he should take it every other day for now? is it his body scent or his mouth? is he brushing his teeth (and tongue) afterwards? I still give my kids the infant vitamins w/ DHA in it. it's only 1 droper and I can mix it in their choc. (SOY) milk. ~C.~

I have used that one too and it worked well...I only noticed the fish smell if it got on their clothes. Due to a slight fish allergy...we were put on flax oil instead and that is going fine...no odor.

I would make sure that you are not going over the required dosage for the age- but besides that, it it common for anyone to smell like what they consume. I know it's kind of weird, but it's like the saying "you are what you eat" lol...As for vitamin a or any other vitamin that is not water soluable- you have to keep track of how much they are consuming- say you give 100% of vitamin a and then your kiddo eats a ton of carrots- it's to much for their daily requirement nessassary- so just keep an eye on the quantity..good luck :)

We use the Nordic Naturals chewable capsules and have no problems with the smell. But I would suggest having him take them at night and see if that helps. I take my fish oil vitamins at night otherwise I burp that horrible fish smell all day! Maybe he's having the same problem!

T.,

I have been giving my kids the Vita Bears and I have to tell you a story about these great vitamins. Our oldest has had a real problem with focusing on daily tasks and school work and it is amazing after a month of being on these vitamins what they have done for her. Her teacher even noticed and was amazed that she was able to focus during her TASK test a couple of weeks ago. If you are interested in what the contents of these vitamins are please let me know and I will be more than happy to share them with you.
