I used cloth diapers. Not much of a stink issue. I used a regular trash can with a special pail liner. Solids were dumped into the toilet and when needed you can use a diaper sprayer that attatches right to the toilet. Super simple :) Then they wash right up to be reused again.

Honestly, the Diaper GenieII has worked really well for me. You have to buy the inserts, but, it has been really convenient and my son's room does not smell like dirty diapers.

I had the diaper champ and liked it at first, but then noticed it started smelling. I even put baking soda in there, etc. so I don't even use one in the room anymore. Now, I put them in the kitchen garbage, as it gets emptied every day (like a lot of people said, sorry if its repetive) :)

I don't think any of them truly keep all of the smell out. My sister was told by a Beaumont nurse to use gallon ziplocs and then put them directly in the trash can when it's full. She also carries them in her diaper bag. We had the Diaper Genie and it always had some smell.

We have a regular trash can with a flip top lid and it works well. (Like one you'd have in the kitchen.) My son eats solid food too. It gets emptied twice a week or so.

I found that the best defense is changing the trash often. It got so we just took them to the kitchen trash, because it gets changed every day. The stinky ones go in a plastic grocery bag that gets tied shut, or I take it right out to the outside garbage can.

This is what I do, right now. I have tried diaper genie, & the diaper champ. None work. If you want I have a diaper genie you can have FREE.
Anyway, I get a box of the little bags at the dollar store (down the baby isle) tie the top & put it in a small can. It is one of the stainless steel ones that you have to step on the pedal to open. It has a liner inside, every night I dump that outside. WHen you open up the can inide that is when you get the smell.
Sorry no perfact fix out there - don't waiste your money.

Diaper Genie but in reality nothing really works. I would just use your kitchen garbage and the ones that are stinky stick in a ziplock. I have a diaper Genie with all my kids but this last baby we just used the regular garbage can mainly.

T.,

I had the same concerns. This is the one that I use:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2373657

what I liked is that it uses regular bags, so I bought some scented bags from the dollar store to use in there and that seems to help. I also empty it once a week on trash day so it goes right outside.

I also have something similar to these but it comes in a pack of 250 at Babies R Us and I put the stinky ones in this first and then in the pail.

FYI - While I was on that website I saw this product which seems to have gotten really good reviews but I don't know anyone that has used it:

I hope this helps!

I honestly just put it in a plastic bag and throw it in the kitchen trash. I never smell it, the trash fills up pretty fast and is taken out often.

I found it best to take the dirty diapers outside to the trash canin the garage.

In the beginning things arent too stinky.. but once they start solid food... yucky..

Plastic grocery bags tied off for each individual dirty diaper, put directly into the outside trash or dumpster! After trying a Diaper Dekor, we decided the grocery bag method worked best! When our kids were babies and going frequently, we kept one plastic bag outside the door for the entire day's worth of dirty diapers and tied it off and tossed it each night.

Diaper champ is pretty good except for those major bad diapers.

I used the Diaper Champ. I liked that you can use any bag in it.

I am finished with it and will sell it to you for $10 if you want. I switched to cloth and use a whole new system.

We have the Diaper Genie II Elite. We love it and feel it is worth every penny of the cost of the refills. There is ZERO odor from this can. If odor free is your desire, this is the product for you. If money is your concern, you might have to sacrifice and accept some odor.

Hi T.,
I would save your money. None really work that great. I've used the Diaper Genie and have friends that have used other ones. As one of the other moms have said, once they start eating solid foods the diapers get bad.

Just a tip, I put just the wet diapers in the diaper bin and put all the poopy diapers in the garage garbage can. This really cuts down on any odor.

Hello T.,

I do not have any experience with the diaper garbages but my niece said it still was smelly no matter what you did.

We used quart size ziplocks and put them in the regular garbage - that garbage was taken out atleast every other day if not more often and we did not have a smell issue.

Good luck - L. S
