I know my daughter is only 2 weeks old. But I was wondering what do you consider the best diaper rash cream? Why? I have been using different ones just to see how her bottom is reacting to them...but I am using alot of them....I have balm, powder, cream. I was just curious to see what is the "best" one.
My daughter has very sensitive skin and every diaper change I would have to use diaper cream. We tried Boudreaux Butt Paste, AquaPhor, Bag Balm, Aveeno and there were a couple others. The only one that seems to do the job is Kroger's brand. It has 40% Zinc which is comparable to Desitin (sp), but 1/2 the price. Hope this helps and good luck.

My daughter had chronic diarreah(sp?) when she was a baby and the ped explained to me that diaper rash cream is not a medicine that heals the rash. It's a protectant/barrier to allow the skin to heal. Because my daughter's rash was sooo bad (sores, bleeding, etc.) I had to use the thinkest thing I could find and it was A&D Ointment. It worked the best for protecting her little bottom and allowed it to heal. Now, I had to slather it one after every diaper change, but it worked better for me than the others.

For me I found that Palmer Bottom Butter has worked the best. It smells really good and with my son his rashes would clear up in 1 to 2 diaper changes. I normally use powder just to keep him dry.

For everyday, I like to use Aquaphor or Balmex. But when they get a wicked diaper rash (from antibiotics, etc.) I like to use the Triple Paste and Aquaphor combo!

My daughter has very sensitive skin since she was born. I've tried all different types of diaper creams. The only ones that work for us are Balmex and Dr. Smiths. Now I use Dr. Smiths exclusively and love it. We tried corn starch once, didn't do anything. You can buy Dr. Smiths at Kroger and Walgreens.

I use a lotion called Renew! It is all natural and it has many different uses! My son and I both have eczema and we use Renew to keep our skin clear. But it will clear up a diaper rash in no time. The other reason why I use it is because it is very affordable and it doesn't have toxic chemicals in it. Take a look at this website. www.tx.parentsunited.com I hope that you will watch the news cast.

Hi J.,
Aquaphor is by far the best! It works very quickly and isn't as messy and thick as many of the other creams/pastes. A girlfriend of mine swears by putting corn starch on her babies diaper rash, although I've never tried it.
Aquaphor is also great on your childs face if it gets chapped or dry.

I am the mother of two girls... I have always used diaper rash cream proactively!!! I applied every diaper change to prevent my babies from getting diaper rash... I have tried just about everything out there... My favorite is Mustela. It is not too thick, not too greasy... smells wonderful... Natural... great stuff... In fact Mustela makes an entire baby care line, and one for expecting mothers as well. It is a little $ than the others, but surely worth it. One of my girl friends uses an old family remedy... I know this sounds crazy, but it is called Corona. It can be purchased at your local feed store (LIVESTOCK). Yes, I know this sounds absurd, but she has been using this cream on her children for years, and thinks it is absolutely wonderful. It works for diaper rash, dryskin, cracked heels, eczema, scraped knees, and just about anything under the sun. Her grandmother is 98 years old, and she has been using this product since she was a kid... They both carry a tube of it in their purse... everyday! Good luck finding a product that you like... There are so many wonderful ones out there.

Sometimes, you will find that NOTHING works. When they have awful diarrhea and it blisters their little bottom. My ped told me about what he called "miracle cream". On your hand, equal amounts of: hydrocortisone, triple antibiotic (like neosporin, or mycitracin) and myconizole (yeast infection medicine). mix together and apply with each diaper change. Go buy a store brand of each and keep it by your diaper station.

I have three kids, two with sensitive skin. My Dr. told us about Dr. Smiths, it use to be sold only behind the pharmacy counter but now it is on the shelves. My second daughter had to take a medicine for six months that would leave her bleeding when it got bad. Dr. Smiths would clear it up that day. It's not greasy and it doesn't have any nasty odors. I haven't bought anything else since I found Dr. Smiths about eight years ago. You can't go wrong with it.
Good Luck

My kiddos never did well with Desitin or Balmex. They also had very sesitive skin though and those creams seemed to make it worse on a rash. My daughter would scream to the top of her lungs when I applied desitin or balmex. I have no idea why but when I started using the Triple Paste cream, it worked miracles!
The pharmacist even told me it's the best stuff next to a prescription. I think it is a lifesaver!
I'm now pregnant with my 3rd and already stocking up on the triple paste.
I know how frequently they're used throughout the first year.
Congrats on your new baby!

I have plenty of experience with this. My oldest daughter had really sensitive skin, so she used to get diaper rashes ALL the time. I went through quite a few, but wasn't happy with any of them till her Pediatrician gave me a sample of Aquaphor. I love it. It was the only thing that worked for her, and it worked quickly. It is an ointment that doesn't contain any harsh ingredients which is used as a skin protectant to seal out any wetness. The whole idea behind using anything on their bottoms is to keep wetness off of the affected area so that it can heal. I go by, and believe, what he told me regarding what is "best" for healing a diaper rash. Ointment is better than a cream, which is better than a lotion, which is better than a powder. I highly recommend Aquaphor. If her rash doesn't go away, keep in mind that babies can get yeast infections, too, which are can be easily mistaken for a bad diaper rash. Something which I experienced with her, but quickly learned. So if it doesn't go away be sure to call her Dr. Good luck!

My daughter has sensitive skin and we went through so many ointments, including prescribed. I have tried Blamex, Aquafor, Desitin, A&D, Dr. Smiths, Beaudreaux's and even Milk of Magnesia (MOM). I have found that the original Desitin ( not the overnight and not the creamy) works the best although the MOM runs a close second. Now, that is not to say that it will work on a yeast infection. I am talking about regular, plain 'ol diaper rash here. I also let my daughter's bottom have air time. Sure I had messes to clean up, but plenty of air and plenty of sunshine on the naked bottom will also work wonders.
If your daughter does not have diaper rash, I would use plain petroleum jelly (Vaseline). Diaper rash ointments (OTC and precribed) are medications and you do not want to have your daughter build up a tolerance to them and them not work when you really need them.
Hope some of this helps.

We brought our baby home from NICU with little sores in her bottom and this stupid prescription cream that made her SCREAM and didn't seem to be improving the situation after a couple of days.
Our Ped gave us samples of Dr. Smith's and we have been using it ever since. We have tried all the other brands but nothing else works on our kiddo.
When she has flare ups (usually after being sick), at diaper changes we use California Baby's Diaper Area Wash spray which has witch hazel in it to soothe, then we gently blot and apply the Dr. Smith's. This diaper area spray is also a great first aid spray for cuts and scrapes.
Like a lot of the other mom's said, it's trial and error. Certain bottoms only respond to certain preparations. Hope this helps-good luck!

I have not read the other posts......so with that said. We tried all of them too with our girls. When they would teeth, their poops and pee would blister their bottoms in seconds. We were so frustrated at what to do. One day I was at the aisle in Walmart and must have looked stressed...a lady asked if I was looking for a diaper ointment. I said, yes. (wondering how she knew). Well, she had been where I was and she said the only thing she will use is Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment. I now will second her on that. IT is amazing. It is not one of the cheaper ones, but it works. It comes in a square box and is around 7-8 dollars. That is all I use now; which isn't very often unless we are teething and even then it clears it up quick.

I swear by Bert's Bees Diaper Ointment. Boudreaux's worked for us for a while, as did Desitin, but now Bert's is the ONLY thing that works. And it actually smells good! I love the smell of my son when he has it on. It is also all natural, which is a great bonus.

I love the Desitin Original as well. My baby had tissue breakdown from breastfeeding his first few weeks of life as did my middle son. I actually went to the pediatrician and was prescribed something for that. If you are dealing with regular diaper rash though the Desitin is the best. You will find your own personal favorite as you go along. Congratulations on your newborn.

With my older daughter I had used A&D, but I didn't like the way it didn't "rub in". With my younger daughter, I used Renew. Not only did it rub in, it was cleared up in less than 2 days. Plus it's safe: the best of science and nature. And I can use it for other things too...it's a lotion.
Good luck!!

Wow, it is funny to read all of these! As you can see, every child is SO different.
My first son only got better with Boudreaux Butt Paste and with a REALLY bad (open wound) rash, we mixed the Boudreaux’s with prescription burn cream.
My second son’s skin did not react at all to the Butt Paste at all, I use Desitin Original and he does great with that :-)
Good Luck and Congrats on the new baby!

Well, my son had a diaper rash for about a year and we tried everything imaginable...Boudreaux's, Dr. Smith's, Aquaphor, Desitin, something natural I bought online and nothing really worked- realized after a while he just had some eczema and it went away on it's own. I did find that, however, the Desitin had the most of an effect on normal rashes (that weren't eczema). I always bought the "Creamy Overnight" Desitin. Liked that best. Like the other poster said, every kid is different and they all respond to different creams differently. You may have to try them all to find the one that works best- would help if you have friends that will let you have a sample. Actually, if you like, I can give you samples of all of the ones that I've listed. Let me know if you would like that- I don't know where you're located, so you may be too far. I'm in McKinney.

Burt's Bees is hands down the BEST. We used Bag Balm as well for our first daughter, but we also used cloth diapers. With disposables we found Burt's works the best. I have two girls and I've been using it from day one with my littlest. She has very sensitive skin and is prone to eczema outbreaks and we have next to no issues with her posterior due to the Burt's Bees ointment. Also, the product is 100% natural and the company does not test on animals.
***Use it with every diaper change and be fairly generous with your application.

I highly recommend Aquaphor all the time as a barrier and if she has a really bad rash put aquaphor w/Aveno which works wonders. Aveno andor aquaphor is the only cream and oientment that has worked for my youngest. He's got REALLY sensitive skin, plus food allergies which causes blisters, rashes and also has ezema. The aquaphor really helps his face for wind burn, rashes, etc.
