I need to lose alot of weight and my exercize level is low. other than stepping up to exercize, can I ask what others have done to successfully take steps towards this goal?
Well I put it off yet again and when I had my physical this past month the Dr was brutally honest. She said this is the 3rd year in a row your cholestral (sp) is up. Do you want meds or are you going to do something about it. It suddenly seemed to make sense. She sent me to a nutritionist and I'm on a 28 day cleansing and then a 1400 calorie a day diet. She is helping me rediscover a world without butter, sugar and wheat products. It will be an interesting journey, one I hope I will finally succeed at.

I have tried everything under the sun to loose weight - the only program that worked for me was weight watchers. I work full-time and have two beautiful daughters with no time to attend meetings. Weight Watchers has an online program that is simple and easy to use. I was able to loose 18 lbs in 3 months and have kept it off. I do not exercise so this was the best option for me.

If you exercise you'll lose the weight quicker and keep it off, not to mention feel better. You want life long healthy habits not just for weight but for overall health too. Try something moderate like walking, pilates, or yoga.

If you are really serious about losing weight I know a great "diet" (even though I wouldn't call it a diet). It's called the Six Week Body Makeover and I did it about 5 years ago. I lost 30 pounds in 9 weeks. It teaches you what to eat for your body type. You don't starve yourself, you eat small, healty meals every 2 hours, 5 meals a day. You even eat carbs. It gets your metabolism going and my doctor approved it. I know you said you have low energy but it is very important to start walking. I walked 45 minutes to an hour, 4 to 5 times a week. The weight fell off. I kept the weight off for 4 years, but with the stresses of being a new wife and step mom, and my husband deploying to Iraq, I gained a lot of it back this past year. I started the "Diet" again about 3 weeks ago and I have lost about 10 pounds. It takes will power, but it is the ONLY diet that has ever worked for me. I have tried them all. Good luck.

C., I used a web site called calorie-count.com, it tells you the calories in everything, even restraunt menus. You put in your height weight and age and it tells you how many calories a day you should eat. The bottom line is 3500 calories= 1 pound. So if you cut out 500 calories a day that is a pound a week! Oh ya and its FREE. I still use it and it has helped me I still count in my head every day to make sure I dont over eat. I ould never give up carbs or surgar. This was a good way for me to learn to enjoy food in moderation. Hope this helps. If you want more info send me a message.

Congratulations on getting your Bachelor's degree!
There's no way around it--contrary to what the diet industry wants you to believe, you need a combination of diet and exercise to successfully lose weight. The diet industry, like any other industry, is out there for the purpose of making money.
The best way to make dietary changes is slowly. For example, you drink 6 cans of soda a day. During the first week, cut back to 5 cans and drink 12 ounces of water instead of the 6th soda. The next week cut back to 4 cans and 24 oz. of water, etc. The same goes for cutting out junk foods and replacing them with healthy ones. For example, replace 3 cookies with 2 cookies and a carrot stick or a handful of grapes. If you do everything slowly, you're not feeling like you're depriving yourself. As the good choices slowly replace the bad ones, it's easier to make them a permanent part of your lifestyle. If you eat out a lot because of your busy lifestyle, see if you can slowly cut down on the number of restaurant meals. There's a surprising amount of hidden calories in restaurant foods.
Exercise is important because it helps to boost your metabolism. If you simply cut back the calories, your body will go into starvation mode, which results in no weight being lost. You don't have to join a gym or buy fancy clothing or equipment. Again, start slowly. Start with a walk around your block. When you shop, park the car a little farther away than you normally would. If there are stairs and elevators where you work and go to school, take the stairs.
A good friend of mine lost over 100 pounds following this plan. She was in her 40s, had 3 kids, and was working full-time. At first, she walked for 5 minutes/day. Then the 2nd week she increased to 10 minutes. After several months, she was walking 5 miles and dropped over 100 pounds. Her eating habits were much healthier. She still ate everything she wanted to, but in smaller quantities. In the six years since she started her diet and exercise program, she has kept all the weight off.

Diet, diet, diet! Weight loss is 20% what you do and 80% what you eat, so eat healthy. Try not to exceed 1800 calories a day...cut out soda, fruit juice, and limit your alcohol intake. Focus on eating fresh foods, such as avocados, eggs, uncooked vegetable, and salads with oil and vinegar for dressing. The amount of fat in a food does not necessarily matter as long as it is a good fat, as found in avocados, olive oil, eggs, etc. Soft cheese (bleu, gorgonzola, and feta) are also healthy and delicious. I think meat of any kind is great with the exception of pork. I personally do not eat pork for health reasons. Losing weight and changing your diet is tough, but once you get into a routine, it will get easier. You can be very creative with healthy foods and make them taste wonderful. Try to stay away from processed foods and ESPECIALLY fast food. Yucko! And of course, drink lots of water. Good luck!

All of these suggestions are great! A balanced diet and excercise is the most effective, but it is not always easy. One of the main reasons why people slip from their healthy eating habits is hunger cravings. We are our own worst enemy when it comes to giving into our old habits.
I definitely recommend Attain (TM) bars and shakes. They feature a patent-pending formula called CraveBlocker that satisfies two main sources of hunger cravings (in the stomach and in the brain) so that you feel fuller for longer, making eating healthy much easier. Best of all, you can get your chocolate fix.
When you are between classes, or just busy and want a snack, satisfy your hunger cravings with an Attain bar instead of a Milky Way or bag of chips.
My personal favorites are Access Bars(TM)--chocolate caramel crunch They have been scientifically proven to help your body tap into stored fat to use as fuel for energy. They are great, too, if you are going to take a 15-30 minute walk. I've dropped 4 sizes these past 6 months after having my twins...and I don't have time to excercise but once or twice a month!
Send me an e-mail. I'd love to help you reach your weight goal.

4 yrs ago I lost 30 lbs by eliminating breads, potatoes, pasta and sugar and I made sure I ate something every 3 hrs. Like 2 eggs and bacon for breakfast and 3 hrs later, celery with 1 TBS peanut butter and lunch (3 hrs later) chicken breast w/ a veggie like Zuccini, etc. I also drank lots of water, not only did weight come off where I wanted it to, I have been able to keep it off by eating like this as much as I can. (I did eliminate fruits for the first month) I can go off it now and still keep weight off as long as I don't stay away too long. I have a large appetite so this worked for me . I could still have a big steak and a bunch of roasted veggies if I wanted for dinner. After I lost most the weight I took one day off a week to eat whatever I want. I recommend taking a day off every 2 to 3 weeks while losing to jump start it back up. Good luck
I did not exercise at all-except at work, which was a lot of running but I was doing the same job before I started the plan so I did not add any additional exercising.
A side note- I lost 25 lbs in 93 by the low fat method but put all that weight back on plus in less then a yr- I just cannot eat like a rabbit. Low carb allows me to eat big and feel satisfied. I am 48 so it is harder for us.

WEIGHT WATCHERS!!!!!! It really works. I lost 50lbs when I joined eight years ago and became a lifetime member. I have since had two children and it is so easy to get back on track and maintain my weight by following the program. Which allows you to eat everything and anything you want within moderation. Also, my mom whom is currently doing Weight Watchers who has been over weight all of her life has lost 55lbs and is still loosing! Also, for me once I got to a point where I was ready, I joined a Pilates class. I was never so fit in all of my life. You do it at your own pace and if you have a great instructor like me, she will show you all of the different level so you can pick which one is right for you! Good Luck on the weight loss and also on the Masters!

Try parking far away from your classes. Even a little bit of exercise is better than none.
Cut out as much sugar as you can (for example, if you drink regular soda, switch to diet). Eat protein at every meal. Cut down on carbs (chips, white bread, etc.). Switch to whole wheat bread, pasta, etc. Don't eat after 7:00 p.m. I lost 40lbs. after our second child was born by following this simple plan.

Eliminate soda even diet soda! Don't drink your calories so any drink that is sweet. I lost 20lb in 2 months this way. Also look into some different exercize options like pilates or yoga. You don't have to end up a sweaty mess to call it exercizing. There are many ways to build muscle that will eat up the fat that won't wear you out. I also try as I am excercizing to visualize the muscle burning off the fat for each body part I work on. It works! At least I am distracted for a minute!! And the most important rule..If it hurts DON'T do it! Feel the burn is not the way to do it!
Another thing that really works is to stop talking about it with ANYBODY sometimes we say we are going to do it and we put it off as if somehow the simple fact that we 'want' to do it makes us feel like we are on the right track. If you don't talk about it the only way to 'prove' it to others and ourselves is to DO it. Good luck and relax. It won't all happen at once so take it one day at a time.

I did the "Atkins" diet. (and so did many other people I know). Really it was just a low-carb diet modified, and the weight melted right off. It's great because you never have to be hungry. In fact you're not supposed to let yourself be hungry. And there is definitely a healthy way to do it if you do your research. Lots of veggies and salads are great. Plus you can still have things like diet coke and those low-carb bars to help curb that sweet craving. It's hard at first, but if you make your mind up and stick with it eventually after the first 3-4 days you don't even crave carbs or sugars. And I have found that when I am eating less carbs and more protein, I have much more energy and feel a lot better. And even today, I don't eat a "no-carb' diet, but whenever I feel like I need to loose a couple pounds, I just decrease my carb and sugar intake and eat more protein and salads. There's so much info online about the low-carb diet, and you can usually won't have a problem finding something you can eat at restaurants. It works because you are basically just reprogramming your body to burn the fat and protein first and the carbs last. Not the other way around. I would particularly recommend this one especially if you don't have a lot of extra time to devote to extra exercise. (I didn't exercise any more than my usual activities and it totally works.) Good Luck!

Weight Watchers---you can find meetings near your house by an online search. I swear by it---that, and amping up your exercise. If you're really out of shape, start by a walk every single day!! You'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel within a few weeks. In addition, try making a bunch of small changes--park further away from everywhere, and walk that extra distance. Take stairs instead of elevator or escalator. Stoop instead of bend to pick things up. Move around during commercials while watching TV---put things away in your home or do some marching in place. As far as more serious exercise--cardio can be hard to do when you're so out of shape, so you might want to consider a stretching, yoga or pilates dvd that you do 3 times a week in addition to your (brisk) walking. Within a month, you'll feel like a new person and will be able to increase/change your exercise. The only "magic" to losing weight is exercise!!

Please take my advice the only way to loose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. Now there are many ways to do this, but remember if a diet sounds to good to be true it probably is, and most people who use extreme diets gain all the weight back because they cannot eat that way for the rest of their lives. Current studies show that people who successfully loose weight and KEEP it off exercise about 50 minutes a day 6 days a week. so my advice is to talk to your doctor about a good healthy diet and exercise plan, because in order to loose weight and keep it off you DO need to exercise, so if you feel you are not healthy enough for exercise you must get advice from your doctor. Remember if loosing weight were easy, many of us would be alot thinner. Good Luck.

Do you want fast weight loss or healthy weight loss? I gained back almost 20 lbs after the birth of my last daughter. I am not a dieter the more I think I can't have something the more I want it. What I have done and it's really working it to cut out High Fructose Corn syrup out of my diet (it's in everything!!!!) I also have made sure that I am not eating a lot of partially hydrogenated oils again they are in just about everything. I also have cut out all artificial sweeteners. I have started eating a lot more veggies, fruit, whole grain crackers and walking more. I used the Flat Belly Diet from Prevention Magazine to get some ideas and anything that lets me eat chocolate is high in my books :-)
I walk my kids to school and back, I have gone to the gym 3 days a week but that is more for rehabilitation of my torn ACL than for weight loss, although that is an added bonus.
Bottom line, your attitude, your desire, your willingness to let go of easy and putting effort into your goal will be what will help you the most.
God Bless you for your desires, he has sure helped me.

Hi C..
First of all, kudos to you for taking the initiative to live a healthier life.
I gained 80lbs during my pregnancy and really had a tough time losing the weight. I was really under the impression that once the baby was born, all of the extra weight would just MELT off. WRONG. Eventually reality finally hit and it forced me to take stock of my own life. I put together small goals. I figured that it would be easier to aim for a little bit at a time rather than overwhelm myself with trying to lose ALL of my "baby weight."
- I tried to make healthier choices.
- Watched how much and when I ate (nothing after 7pm)
- Walked around after every meal instead of plopping in front of the tv.
- Spent less time in front of the computer and enjoyed the outdoors w/ my new baby.
-Slowly weaned myself from soda and drank water instead.
Though I would still love to lose my last (pesky) 10lbs, I feel healthier than ever. I exercise regularly (yoga and pilates 4x a week and a 20 minute exercise video by Jillian Michaels 3 days a week). It really was a lifestyle change for me.
I hope you find what works for you.
Good luck!

I would suggest Weight Watchers (WW). Its not really a diet, if you stick with it you really learn how to eat healthier and it makes it better.
I've been at WW since January and have lost 25 lbs with no excercise. They reccomend excercise but I hate it.
I'm now only 15 lbs from my High School Weight (20 years ago).
Right now I heard its free to check out a meeting and free to register. $12 a week if you want to try it out.

Eat less and exercise is the only way. Listen to the ladies that told you about WeightWatchers. I followed the WW plan and exercised 5 mornings a week (just a 30 minute walk which turned into jogging as I lost weight. I lost over 20 lbs in no time and have kept it off for over 10 years. Those that tell you about some miracle product will be gaining the weight back and then some. We have some ladies in my office that went to some quack doctor where they received "vitamin" shots - my guess was it had some kind of amphetamine in it. Yes, they lost tons of weight and now every one of them is heavier than when they started. Not worth it and expensive.

Congrats again to you for making one of the best decisions of your life. I've tried so many things, weight watchers, exercising like crazy, but then I read a wonderful book called the Abs Diet, by editor and chief of Men's Health magazine David Zinczenko. The whole idea of the book is to tell you why you need to eat what you need to eat. I didn't have to count points or anything, but just try to stay in my bulls eye of A-almonds and nuts B- Beans and Legumes S- Spinach and other green veggies (ABS) D- Dairy (Fat free or low fat milk, yogurt, or cheese I- Instant Oatmeal E- Eggs T- Turkey and other lean meats (Diet) P- Peanut Butter (all natural) O- Olive Oil W- Whole grain breads and cereals E- extra protein (whey) powder R- Raspberries and other berries (Power) If you read the book it will go into detail of what all of these foods fight, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and much more. I have recommended this book to about 3 people who loved it who then recommended it to other people. It's an easy read and it's educational. There was so many diet pitfalls that I fell into that were keeping me overweight. When I gave this 100% I finally lost the baby fat the number I couldn't get past and lost 20 lbs. I would recommend this book to anyone. It's so empowering. Everything that Oprah and Dr. Oz talk about now, this guy has been saying all along and has the studies and statistics to prove it. And you'll be quite amused reading it as well. Here's to a new You!!!

Due to the green tea in Vemma my appetite has been curb and I don't snack in between meals like I used to. Which has been helping with my weight loss. I'm also getting healthier and more energetic by receiving all my vitamins and minerals some of them antioxidents.
If you want more information please go the the Vemma website.

Congratulations on your recent degree and working on your Master's degree. I believe the first step you need to take is just having a physical at your doctor's office to make sure you have no medical problems causing your weight gain. The doctor can let you know whether it is safe for you to begin a weight loss regimen. Doctors can sometimes consult nutritionists on cases. You can ask the doctor for a dietician consult and learn from them what the best foods for you to eat are, etc. Best of luck to you.

Hi C. - How much weight do you need to lose? Since you are currently evaluating your "dieting" options, I highly recommend you go to www.jackmedina.com and check out his Nutripoints system. I saw him speak in person recently and he talks all about the various diet fads and pills and warns people to beware. The best way to lose weight is to learn about foods and food combinations that are healthy for you and naturally high in nutrients, low in fat, sugar, carbs, sodium. and in the right combination (e.g., protein, carbs and fiber together). That's what his nutripoints program is all about. In order to lose weight permanently you need to develop and sustain healthy habits, not diet. I think that's how Weight Watchers works as well. There's nothing out there that is a get slim quick and permanently solution except for a healthy diet and exercise. Even a small increase in your exercise like a nightly walk will do wonders for not only your weight but your heart health. If you're soda drinker just dropping a can a day can equate to approximately 10 lbs of weight loss per year with no other changes. Even diet soda has weight gain side effects along with other potential nuerological effects from Aspartane.
Every now and then, like before a vacation or after a summer full of BBQs and eating more than usual, I like to do a healthy cleanse. I use a combination of Juice Plus products (protein/nutritional powder for shakes) and a cleansing drink from Isagenix. During the week it's a combo of the shakes, water, cleansing drink, natural herbal supplements, nuts and chocolate fiber wafers. I drop about 7-10 lbs each time. It's a period where your body gets nothing but good nutrients. I always feel better afterward both in mind and body. The key afterwards is keeping healthy habits up - the Juice Plus complete shake mix is part of my daily routine. I also suggest the Juice Plus capsules. It's 17 real fruits, vegetables and grains in capsule form. When your body is well nourished it doesn't need to hold on to excess fat, so it will just support your ability to lose weight through healthy food choices and exercise. Check out www.wethriveonjuiceplus.com for the research on Juice Plus and feel free to call me if you want more info ###-###-####. Good Luck!

I have never been able to stick to a certain diet, but I have lost 30 lbs. on my own by eating normally during the day, because I have to have energy for my kids, then eating next to nothing at night - either a very small dinner, or sometimes no dinner. Yes, I get really hungry, but it helps me lose weight. I find I don't mind being real hungry at night but I need the energy during the day. Sometimes I eat a few wheat thins or something to keep the hunger pains down. My husband also helps me keep accountable. During the day I eat most anything, within reason, even my favorite sweets because I can't deprive myself. I also exercise at the gym twice a week, and take our dog on long walks.

Hi C.. I have a 3 year old and a 1.5 year old girls. On my younger daughter's 1 year birthday, I decided to lose the weight for good. I made sure, first and foremost, that I got at least 1/2 hour of exercise (walking, aerobics, kickboxing videos at home) 5 days a week. Once I committed to the exercise, I knew I had to follow through with eating well. So, for 12 weeks, I eliminated starch (rice, bread, pasta) and sugar and salt. I used sea salt and pepper and herbs to flavor my food. Regular salt makes us retain water. I increased exercise after a month to at least 1 hour a day as my stamina increased and as I felt stronger. It's crucial also to drink lots of water. By the time my daughter turned 18 months old, I had shed 25 lbs and is now back to my size in high school (size 2). I feel really good. But the one very important detail in all of this: Get someone close to you to help you stay on track. I weighed myself every morning, at the same time, and reported this to my husband. It kept me accountable. If I knew I was going to report to him the food I ate that day, I would think twice about cheating and eating that donut. In other words, get some support. It's crucial. Well, good luck. It's not easy but it's well worth the health benefits, physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally. Take care.

Go to twinow.com/jlwagner, or twihealth.com/jlwagner. There is a natural weight loss program that you can order. It works wonders.
I am on a program called Generate 1000 that heals your system after it cleans it out. The side effect of this product is inch loss. I have lost a size and at least 20 pounds. This is without exercise, so I know the weight loss products will help you.
I'm very bad at sticking to any routines, but this program is a very good jump start, it encourages you to eat frequently, and tells you specifically what to eat to boost your metabolism, after the 1st week, I lost 5lbs. I'm one of those people who isn't really big, so it's actually really difficult for me to lose weight because I don't have much to lose, they say when you're almost there, that's when it's the hardest (I'd be really happy if I lose 20 more lbs and then I'm done). So, this was neat in that it actually did help me.
Also, the program is based on "YOU." They ask a series of questions, figure out your body type and specify food, exercise, etc. based on your body type, and that's really what I wanted.
Good luck!

I completely gave up all breads, tortillas, sweets, coffee and all sodas of any kind. I make sure that I do exercise everyday at least 30minutes. Sometimes fatburning and cardio otherdays, weights to tone as I lost. I also eat 6 times a day to assure I built up my metabolism. I was told to lose 20lbs. Which I really thought I had to lose 10. I have changed to this lifestyle eating and exercise and within 8weeks I have last 15lbs. I do not feel hungry or deprived in anyway. I am surprised because I have spent my whole life dieting and maintaining with this being so natural. My husband has now joined me and my teenage kids are following much closer to this as well. Everyone is showing the benefits.

Check out our new gastric bulking agent called FORM(TM). It gives you the willpower to eat less by filling a portion of your stomach before meals. A smaller stomach capacity means you eat less and your brain receives the full signal much sooner. It is bio-inert, doesn't absorb into your system and flushes naturally within about 4 hours. You can watch a demonstration on my website, www.DontStressEatLess.com. We even have Heather Hansen from the 3rd Season of NBC's The Biggest Loser as our Spokesperson. She has lost a great deal of weight using the products and you can too. Blessings!

I would suggest Weight Watchers. Before I had my baby, I wanted to lose some weight so pregnancy would not be too hard on my body. It was very balanced and taught me better eating habits. It also helped me cook in a healthier manner. The things I learned I have maintained and it has helped me lose the baby weight after having my son. I have so many friends with incredibly successful stories who have maintained their weight loss. Weight loss is not just a goal to get to as fast as we can, it is a lifestyle to adopt for a healthier life.

I use Carb Blockers. It is a natural product that blocks the absorbtion of sugars from the food you eat. I drink water with a dissolvable fiber that I buy from the same place to keep me feeling full. Also, get a chart that tells you about the sizes of portions. Good luck, I know it is tough. Keep up the small decisions each day and be patient for results.
If you want to shop for the products I mentioned I buy them online at we-us.mychoices.biz
I also take a GREAT vitamin, that is key for me to maintain my energy level. It is called DOuble X
