Different Birth Control Options

I'd like any opinions on different birth control medications. I am currently not on anything. But I will need to get on something to regulate my system soon. I'm all over the place with everything and I'm not liking it much. :) I've been on pills before - I forget to take them and have 2 of my 3 girls as a result. Oops! I've also been on the patch before. Technically I'm not sure how that was supposed to work as I was and am still currently over the weight they suggest that it will work best for.

So if you are currently taking, have taken/used something before that worked for you - I'd like to hear about it so that I have some ideas of things to try when I get into my OB/GYN's office. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your advice and ideas. :) I ended up going with a pill again - Mircette. Hopefully now that I am less distracted with running around crazy (haha well less crazy) I will remember to take them as I am supposed to. **** The pill helped but I found out I have/had cervical displaysia which was causing the irregular periods.

I tried a couple of different options, after I had my last baby, and ended up with an IUD. I don't have to remember to take anything. It doesn't mess with your hormones, and my insurance covered most of the cost. It's long term though, (lasts about 10 years), so it's something you want to do if you don't plan on having any more kids for a while.
There are two different types of IUDs, one with hormones, and one without. I opted for the one without, because the hormones in the Pill really messed with me. It's been working great for two years now, and I don't even realize it's there.

Good luck!

I would not take the patch, there has been women who have died and had other problems due to the patch. Its been on the news and there are lawyers now who are represting this people who have had a stroke or had family members who have died. I would look into it if you really want to use that method.

I used to take Depo which is a shot every three months, currently I'm not taking anything because I am trying to get pregnant again. I have always been a big fan of Depo because it stops your period the only problem I have with it now is that my last shot was in March and it took almost six months to get a period again. If you are done having children then it seems like there would be no worries thought I have heard that other people have experienced different side effects like weight gain and irregular periods. Good Luck!

Have you considered an IUD? lasts several years, pretty reliable, you don't have to do much, big purchase up front if your insurance doesn't cover, but can still be cheaper in the long run than BCP, but it doesn't regulate any thing.

Good luck

I use the 'Nuva Ring' and I love it. I use the ring for 3 weeks, and replace it with a fresh one. I repeat this cycle three times, then I leave a ring out for a week for my period. It essentially is like the seasonal pill - in that you have a period only 4 times per year. It is AWESOME! I just put a reminder on my calendar for when I need to swapout or skip my nuvaring and it has been working well for the past year.
