Suggestions on Birth Controll

Hi.. I love the Nuva Ring! It's so easy to put in and you don't have to worry about it! I actually leave mine in for 4 weeks and then just change to a new one. I don't have periods anymore and it's awesome! My gyn tells me this is totally safe. Good luck!

Hi, I can honestly say that the IUD is great! I choose the one without hormones and it's good for 10 years! If you do decide on this, take a tylenol before! Good Luck, S.

Well I too had problems with the Mirena. It caused a cyst on my left ovary and I was having infections once a month. Then when I finally went in to have it removed, they said it had moved. So I don't trust the IUDs and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I tried the shot for a year and had horribly heavy periods for two weeks out of the month. The pill works, if you can remember to take them every time. Don't know about the patch or ring, it sounds like something I might check into. But what my husband have been using for the last eight months is just the condoms. It's been working so far. What ever you choose, good luck on your decision.

I too used teh ring and I loved it as well, if you can take regular birth control pills with out haveing side effects, the ring is AWSOME.

Hello I did the depo shot and had alot of problems with that. I bled the entire time. After that I went to the patch which I loved but as you said don't know how safe it is. I ended up getting my tubes tied after my last baby 6mo ago because I had a c-section. I hope you find something that works well for you. Good luck

I was gonna suggest condoms but u mentioned that.... I managed to not get pregnant for 5 yrs using a condom with my husband... I have no idea bout any other birth control cuz i have only ever tried the pill and well i kept forgetting... lol....

The shot is a pleasant form of birth control IF you can deal with theinitial reactions of the first 6 months. You will experience heavy bleeding and other irritations until your body can adjust. After that, its a fly by, HOWEVER if you do want more children further down the road, the depo shot is NOT a good method. The pill and the patch are the best forms for short term use. They now make pills you only take once a week or once a month. The patch is as safe as the BC pills, people like to sue the medical field for ignorance. Whatever you choose, there will be a possibilty of severe side effects.

My recommendation is to go see your doctor and discuss your personal wishes and reactions and see what the doctor suggests to you. That was you can get a wide variety of choices and how you will react, not how others reacted. BTW, you can also look up the types of BC and reactions/side effects by going to webmd.com keyword birth control methods.

I am on the shot right now because I am nursing, which isn't too bad but the injection site hurts for a few days, but it it nice to get every 3 months. I have used the ring and LOVED IT!!! That is what I am going to be going back on when I am finished nursing. ou don't know it's there, and neither does your spouse. You don't have to think about it very often. I'm not a pill person either so I don't take those but the ring is wonderful!!! Hope I have helped.

I was on the patch, and well i dont recommend it to anyone. it worked fine for months, i started using it last feburary and it worked great. but in oct i had my period as usual and i spotted every day up until early december, when i finally got the guts to go to the doctor. I found out it was the patch. i am on the pill now but hope to change this coming feb. dont know which one to change to but i know not the patch.

Whatever you do DONT use the depo shot. I was on it for almost 7 years and it really messed up my system. It caused sex to be painful which in turn caused me to HATE sex and lose my libido, which I finally got back after 10 years!!!!!! Everyone that I know who has been on the depo has had similar complaints so I say it is best to avoid it if at all possible. Not to mention is also causes calcium and other vitamin deficiencies that I was not aware of until AFTER I was off the shot. Right now I am not on anything just because we are trying to conceive our second child, but if I had to go back on birth control I would just use the pill. It’s a pain to have to try to remember to take it, but I would always keep the pills and a digital watch in my purse and set the alarm and I would never forget to take them. :)

I have the Merina IUD right now it is working really great for me. I had the copper IUD because I was also really worry about the hormones since in the past I had the depo shot and it messed up my system and gain 80 pounds. But after having the copper IUD for 1 1/2 yrs I found out I was 16 weeks pregnant. She turned out perfect. The copper IUD is all about placement and the merina has the hormones too. I would just be very careful if choosing the copper IUD.

I have tried just about everything. My favorite was the nuva-ring. You pop it in for three weeks and forget about it, then take it out for the fourth week to have your period. You do not feel it at all at any time, and my husband didn't notice it either. Don't get the shot, that messes up your body for years. I hated that one, the only reason I got it was because I had no insurance at the time and that's what they gave me at the health dept. I most recently had the merina iud and I hated it too. I got it taken out as soon as I quit breastfeeding. Hope this is helpful!

Hi L.! I, also, have tried many different methods of birth control. I am currently using the ring and I absolutely love it!! It's really simple... you put it in and leave it there for 3 weeks and then leave it out for one so that you stay on a normal cycle. The only problem that I've had with it is every couple of months I'll spot for a week or so. Good luck...

hello. you sound like you might be into doing things the "natural" way. i use a cervical cap. you have to go to a naturopath to get it. it's said to be 99% effective. they don't like to tell you about it at the doctor because you only have to buy one for the rest of your life, unless you lose it. mine cost $90 plus the visit was free thru my midwife/naturopath. i hope that gives you a new option to think about and look into. good luck.

Hi L., I have used the Nuva Ring - No problems with it just a rubber ring and you pinch it together and insert it. I didn't like the inserting and taking out part but other than that it was fine :( :) although I currently have the Mirena IUD and if you don't mind me asking why do you not like it? - I have only had it for about 4-5 months now I was going to have a Tubal but chickened out at the last minute wasn't sure if I didn't want any more kids - I only have 1 and he is 4 and a hand full!!

Well I take the pill and it works great.. Ive never had problems with it.. I heard the shot works great but it ive heard that rarely it makes women where they cant have babies no more but that isnt that common.. The patch is no good.. I was on it when I got pregnant lol.. I duno much bout those rings and stuff but Ive thought about them.. I dunno hehe seems kinda painful... anywho good luck with your search

i have the copper iud and i really like it. i didn't do merina because i'm really nervous about hormones. (i was on the various doses of the pill and they all made me bonkers) which is why i never did norplant. The increased risk of breast cancer with long term use of hormonal contraceptives is worrying to me, however slight they say it is. What didn't you like about merina?

I have been very happy with the nuva ring. It lasts a whole month so no remembering pills. It is actually quite comfortable. I don't even wear tampons and the nuva ring does not seem to bother me. I would highly recomend it.

I tried the pill too but didn't like it because I would forget to take it ontime. I tried the patches and liked them but the insurance wouldn't cover them. Now with the patches causing problems with your heart I would be leery of using them. The shot is the one I used most. It was good and bad. I loved not having periods and the shot didn't hurt but a few seconds. I had problems with low sex drive on it though and headaches. When I went off the shot it made my periods all over the place. It also took me 10 months to get pregnant. My friend had the norplant and when she had that removed she would bleed for three weeks out of the month and she got really aniemic. I have never used the ring so don't know about that. I use a product called Norforms which I buy at Walmart and they work great. Good luck on finding a good birth control. It can be a hard decision.

Oh, gosh, try the Nuva-ring! It's so awesome! I was on the pill for over 10 years and didn't have any problems with it but my ob/gyn suggested I try the ring. She was able to give me 3 of them (1 per month) as samples and they are just great. The ring is so super easy to use. It looks similar to one of those little rubber bracelets (not the livestrong/Lance Armstrong ones, the skinny ones that kids wear in multiples) and you just put it it and forget about it for the next 3 weeks. You put it in on what would be the first day of a pill cycle and then remove it on what would be the last day of your active pill cycle. You get your period about 2 days later and then, just like a new round of pills, you start over. I didn't have any problems with it slipping out or feeling it at any time or anything like that either. There's no special technique for inserting it or getting it the "right" spot or anything so there's not the stress of thinking that maybe you didn't do it right. Give it a try; I think you'll be really happy with it.

I 'm not good at the pill either, have a latex allergy(rules out condoms, diaphragms, etc, bad reactions to the spermacides. But alas, the Nuvaring, love it, only have to put it in once a month, and forget about it. My husband didn't seem to notice a difference. You do have to be ok with touching your own private parts. lol. Good luck

i used the norplant. it was nice and convenient. i had it inserted for the full five years. had no period for nearly the whole 5 years. so that was really nice. the worst part of the insertion and removal was the fact that they had to cut me to do the procedure. and well i don't live blood. also, i gained a lot of weight while being on it. but you will gain weight with either method that you have to make part of your body....the shot, the patch, the pill and those types of methods. some people are lucky and won't gain weight, i was one of the unlucky ones.
