Discipling My 5 Month Old

I'm sorry - but I am outraged in the least. 5 months old???? He should be the one that is slapped!!! A 5 month old can not express themselves with words - only with sounds and unfortunately for men because they don;t understand - it is mostly crying! And then to hit the poor thing because they are already uncomfortable be it either hunger, diaper or gas, and then dad and mom hits them!!! I can;t say enough of how angry I am to have read that! Its a baby and should be picked up and held when it cries, cuddled, loved, kissed!!! NOT HIT!

5 months is way too young for discipline. If she is crying, she is trying to communicate that she has some kind of need. To get "spanked" instead seems cruel.

I'm not against spanking- at the right age (not sure what it is maybe around 2) . Although I'm not sure it is effective.

Sounds like your husband needs to learn how to deal with the crying.

I feel for you. I hope you have luck getting through to your husband. Trust your instincts.

I am actually for spanking kids (lightly never hard) but what could a 5 month do to even be spanked lightly or tapped??? I have a hard time doing it to my 22 month old because I dont think she understands, but on the occasional temper tantrum or screaming fit I will...At 5 months old she is not going to know discipline..I would put an end to that right away..If it was my husband I would tell him he is not allowed to hold her till he could deal with having a baby because when you have a baby that is what happens they cry, poop, and sleep..If you cant deal with those 3 than maybe he shouldnt be aruond her.??? just my opinion...

I was going to write that 5 months is way too young for spanking but it looks like the other moms have the issue addressed. I agree that spanking a 5 month old baby is completely ridiculous.

No way should your husband be doing any disciplining. Your two girls are just babies still! I have a little three month old son he'll be four months on the 19th...and i'd never think about spanking him on his bottom when he cries....That's the only way for them to communicate w/ us is through crying so first rule out every possible situation(diaper change, hunger, lonely, tired, or wants attention) then if nothing is soothing her then just let her cry for about ten minutes if she's still whining then something's still wrong w/ her. I don't think I'd start disciplining my son until he's around about 1 1/2 or older...
