Hey Moms,
Has anyone found a sippy cup that doesn't drip in the diaper bag? I have tried many and have yet to find one. I usually wind up putting it in a ziploc inside the diaper bag. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

HI everyone!
Thanks so much for all the responses. I bought a Gerber cup with a straw for my 2 1/2 year old and a Gerber transitions cup (with a cover like a bottle) for my 10 month old. So far, no leaks! THanks again!

I have found two that don't leak. The first is Evenflo HealthTex, insulated, (can find at Wal-Mart or Target) OR Tupperware has a Sippy cup, that has seals (or lids) for transportation. Good luck !!

I have tried LOTS of sippy cups. I finally found a brand that doesn't leak. The cups are Gerber (I think) and are leak-proof insulated sippy cups. The tops screw on rather than snapping on (preventing the top from flying off when my 1 1/2 year old throws it across the room), and I think the key to the leak-proof-ness comes with the plastic "valve" that fits underneath the lid into the sippy hole. The valve allows him to drink when he wants, but completely keeps the liquid from leaking out when it's upside down or in the diaper bag.

I hope this helps! If it helps you find them in the store, they come in a 2-pack and mine have underwater-type scenes on them--one lid is red and the other is green. (They have girl colors as well!!)

Here is the thing....
Nothing is leak proof unless it is air tight. These sippy cups will only allow fluid out when enough suction (vaccuum) is place inside that the valve allows air the come through thus allowing the liquid out the mouth piece.
If you want it to remain leak proof, you have to make sure there are no pressure changes.....
So, since I am sure you are not mountain climbing or sending her into a hyperbaric chamber...
I'm sure the changes are purely from temperature change.
So, as the fluid is getting warmer it is forming a vacuum and sucking in a little air. If you shift the bag and the fluid swishes, the cold fluid on the bottom mixes in lowering the temperature and causing a sudden positive pressure inside the sup and fluid seeps out into the bag.

Ok...I'm done being geeky...

The best advice...
If you have to put it in the diaper bag, it has to absolutely remain upright. My nephews wife got a luchbag cooler style bag with straps to hold the sippy cups up inside. It looks a bit like a camera bag, with insulated soft sides. If the sippy cups are absolutely upright, only air exchanges in and out with the pressure changes.
-or-
DO not use the sippy cup for transporting fluid in the bag. Pour the fluid in the sippy cup before giving it to the child. Use small juice bottle or water bottles, open them only when pouring them into the cup. Back when my daughter was a baby, gerber had large (12 oz?) juice bottles, being glass I could put them in the dishwasher and reuse them for the diaper bag fluids.

You know....These sippy cups need to come with travel lids to make them air tight...so then, you can change lids when you give it to her. Tupperware hasn't some up with a valve lid yet to put on their cups. Why not?
:(

Good luck,
I hope the geek squad helped!

I havent found one myself yet either, but I noticed someone mentioned the Nuby cups. I had a pack I bought, they leaked. I returned them (they are guaranteed to not leak) and the second pack leaked as well. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I hate them.

I feel your pain! I only found one. It's Gerber and it is very simple (no cartoon charaters or crazy designs). Cup changes color a little when there's cold liquid in it. Bought the Dora cup and it drips all over the place and it was supper expensive compared to the plain Gerber cup that actually works. Hope things work out.

HI...I'm a mom of 4 and I have used the Nuby sippys. They have a top that is almost the same rubbery material as a nipple from a bottle and can be interchanged. For me, personally, they have been the best for not leaking. I know others mentioned Nuby leaking but there are various Nuby types. This one is hour glass shaped. Good luck.

i use the 1st years sippy cups (the ones with winnie the pooh or princess on them...i think they're supposed to keep the drink COLD) i also use the playtex sippy cups that have that little insert in the top, as long as you push that insert in ALL THE WAY it doesn't leak. as for the 1st years, DON'T put anything that "fizzes" like soda in it (i know, you're not supposed to give soda to a toddler, but try telling that to my husband!) if you do, then it breaks the seal. also, after a few months (maybe 6) of washing it, sometimes it stretches that little opening up and then it stats to leak...but for the 1st (at least 6 months) i didn't have problems with the 1st years...and i just got new ones when i did. there's also those sippy cups with the straws, the straw itself pulls apart into 3 pieces, but it's really leak proof!!! i've seen MAYBE 1 or 2 drips come out, but that's ONLY when my daughter drinks, then doesn't drink what's left in the upper part of the straw. i think it's called NUBY (from my searchings, it seems you can ONLY get it from stop and shop) it's got the big bulbous bottom, that goes in a little thinner, to make the cup look almost like and hr glass, and it looks like little nubs on the cup itself...and the straw bends into the top when you flip the lid closed. it's really great (another mommasource mom suggested it to me...and other then my daughter chewing through the straw, it's absolutely great! but she kills nipples on her bottle with the chewing too) good luck, those are the 3 that work best for me! also, i make sure that when i put them in my diaper bag, i put them in the sides where you're supposed to place the bottles, this way it's upright as much as possible. oh, and i saw that someone suggested the gerber sippy cup with the HARD plastic piece that pops into the lid, well, i started off on that and it is indeed truly leakproof UNTIL that hard piece pops out (which if the cup gets dropped, or thrown that piece falls right out, and it pours all over the place AND then you have to reach your fingers deep down into the cup to retrieve the plastic piece) if your child is careful with the cups then that is great, WON'T leak in the diaper bag, but if they're not careful and drop or throw the cups don't get the gerber!)

The other responses were riitght on with the Gerber or Playtex. I can advise you NOT to get th cups with Deora/Diego/Spongebob ect. on them those are always the ones to leak for me. Not through the spout but out the white plastic piece fitting over the lip of the cup.

At targetm, Playtex sells one pack that is I think stage 3 or 4 and one sippy is orange and one is pink. These sippies are GREAT!

I got a couple of playtex cups with built-in straws (they have pictures of baby einstein stuff on them) and they don't leak. The only time something comes out is if he takes a sip and there is some liquid left in the straw part otherwise it doesn't leak out of the side where the top closes.

Have you tried the stainless steel Sigg bottles? You can find them online (just search for "Sigg bottle" or something like that). They're technically not sippy cups though they have sport-type spouts and come in 3 and 4 ounce sizes for children. We use them for our almost-four-year-old and 13-month-old children. They don't have bisphenol-A, phthalates, or any of those harmful chemicals. They also have rubber gaskets so they don't leak and they have a flip-top sort of lid to cover the sport spout. They're expensive but definitely worth it, especially if you buy UHT milk in those single-serving packages (now those really add up).

I used an EMS thermous for a while, and brought two empty sippy's. I just poured it when she was ready to drink it.
The thermous was stainless steel on the outside, and was kind of tall and narrow. It didn't take up much room.

Well, I have yet to find a sippy cup that does not leak, which is why I am online now, looking for the best recommendation. Unfortunately, I have tried so many different brands and styles of sippys, and still they all leak. So frustrating. Regardless, if it is a one that has a snap-on/screw on lid, a straw, or a outward spout, every style, even if it says guarenteed not too leak, well it leaks. I have seen them leak not only from the holes/straw where they drink from, but also from the tiniest air hole on the lid. I thought my 2 year old child just had a fantastic future baseball/football arm, and that they leaked after so many throws!!!

I have heard there is a sippy out there that does not leak (though they all say this), and of course I do not know what the name brand is and I heard it is quite spendy. I don't know if it is one you can buy in the store, but if so, it would not be in a Walmart/Kmart/etc... So the way I look at it, if I can find it, and I do get it, will it be well worth the money??? Looking forward to the day I find it, and there are no more leak spills on the floor/bed/couch.

Playtex, both sippy and straw insulated cups. If it leaks you need a new rubber seal. Make sure you are not using old cups. Keep them in the bottle holders in the diaper bag.

Well good luck!! The nubby or nibby however you spell it if the plastic clear seal breaks or somehow is not tight they spill. I was using them for a while but found that when I took it apart to clean it once I put the plastic clear piece to the top to changed. I do not know the name but walmart and Kmart sell them. I got my daughter a two or three pack of sippy cups. Dora was in front of them and they had more of a round not too hard plastic tip and I have not found them to leak yet.I also got the pack of sippy cups again do not know the names but they have straws you insert. I haven't found them to leak unless your child tips them over and just waits for the milk to pour like my daughter does. Okay well good luck.

Just a quick word of advice about sippy cups. I work with many speech therapist professionals in a school setting and recent research in their field has shown that prolonged use of the sippy cup by children older than age 1 or 1.5 has a deleterious effect on the child's developmental abilities. Basically, kids are using the sippy cups for far too long and they are not developing their capacity to swallow correctly by using their tongue because the sippy cup promotes only a basic sucking motion and the mouthpiece is often too big on the sippy cup. They have seen the impact on kids who come to school in kindergarten and who are dealing with these issues in the form of speech problems. I was totally surprised when I heard this too because I never would have thought the sippy cup was a problem. One of the speech therapists suggested replacing the sippy cup with a cup that has a built in straw because that promotes the use of the tongue muscles more and is still easy for little ones to handle. Anyway, thought I would share this with you. Take care!

Gerber.....I'm trying to look for another name on it but they are kind of old. Animal prints along bottom half of cup. The spout is kind of thick and as long as the spout is on good on the inside.....absolutely NO dripping! Walmart, babies r us, the usual places. Sorry I don't have much more.

YES, I also felt the same way you did. Through trial and error I found a bottle by PLAYTEX, they carry them at Baby's R Us. They are 6 1/2" high. At 29 months I still use them occasionally, if I remember correctly they are sold as a
"Stage 3 or 4" cup. It has a twist top with a valve. They do not leak, they're great.
Best Wishes,

Hi J. ~

We purchase the disposable packs from Wal-Mart. They come 4-6 in a pack with lids and cost less than 3 DOLLARS!! If we loose one at the doctors office or a friends - "OH-WELL" out went about 60 cents. They work for about 6 months or so and then we toss the worn covers and buy new. They come in bright colors and work GREAT!
