Do I Go to a Size 3 Diaper?

My almost 8 month old son has recently started leaking through his diapers. He doesn't leak through them all the time but probably about 3-4 times per week. I use Pampers Swaddlers and LOVE THEM but I don't know if I should switch from a size 2 to a 3. It reads 18 lbs to switch and my son is probably about 17lbs or a little over... I know the next step up is the Pampers Cruisers. Should I switch or I wonder if he's just peeing more?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies, I went and bought the size 3 a few days ago and everything seems great.. Now if I could just get him to sit still while changing him, things would be perfect... Thanks again for your responses!!!

I would switch to a bigger size. You can't really go by what the diaper box says as far as weight, it has more to do with each babies comfort. If he's leaking, he doesn't have enough coverage. My son wore a size 6 by the time he was 1 because that's what fit him the best and kept him from leaking. Good luck!

I had the same problem recently with my daughter- she was in a 4 and I swore the reason she was leaking could not been the diaper size because she fit well within the weight guidelines, but low and behold, I went a size up and she isn't leaking through anymore. I think the reason could be because they don't take into consideration that just because a child is skinny, doesn't mean that they aren't very tall or vice versa. So I would do what I did and buy a pack of the bigger size and try it out. If it doesn't make a difference, you can just put the size 3's up for when he IS in that size- no harm no foul.

Hi Kristy! We found that when our son was leaking through, it was time to move on to the next size. So, that is what I would recommend! It sounds like he is pretty close as far as weight goes, anyway.

I hope this helps!

I would up to size three. I've had my daughter in size threes since she was about 16-17lbs. I use different brand though.

With both of my kids, I never had that problem. If it said up to 18 lbs, I would switch them when they were 15 or so lbs. It's better to be safe than sorry. I myself am not a fan of "Pampers", I always found that diaper was coming apart or something. I used "Huggies" with my eldest, however I found out that "Luvs" worked wonders with my youngest and it was cheaper.
Good Luck,
Claud.

Yup, you need to switch. The weights listed are not always exact. I too was sad to leave the swaddlers because they were soooo great. I really like the cruisers though, so I'm sure you'll be happy (and so will your son!)

Yes,

I would go to the larger size diaper, my son had the same problem and moving up in the next size in diapers helped.

My son is almost 8 months as well. We loved the Swaddlers and switched to Cruisers size 3 when he was about 4 months ( I think 15 lbs). He's now about 20 lbs and I'm going to switch him to size 4 soon. I don't pay attention to the poundage on the side. When the diaper leaves a lot of red marks and/or he leaks, I switch.

I would switch to size 3. I switch to size 3 diapers for my son a while back, before he hit the 18 lb mark. He seems more comfortable, and I've hardly had any leaks with the bigger diaper.

I also used swaddlers and loved them. butI noticed everytime one of my kids started leaking more, that meant I had to go up a size. Unfortunately the cruisers were not as stretchy and leaked all the time.I found that going to huggies #2's worked because they are very stretchy. They just don't have that wonderful smell that pampers has. Definately experiment because the less leaks the better!

Swaddlers were recently released in size 3. Call their 800 number to find a location near you that carries them. I think their number is 1800-pampers. Hope that helps.

I agree, going up to the next size is the most logical
thing for you. Most times when my son started peeing
thru, moving up to the next size was the answer. The only
time I didn't move up was when he was in the right size and
only peed thru at night. Then, I bought diaper doublers. They
cost about $3-$4 and are similar to a womans maxipad, but
work great. I tried other diapers on my son,and always ended
up coming back to pampers. They worked the best for us. My
daughters, now that's a different story. Anyway~Good Luck!

I had the same problem and I discover the papers sizes run small so go for a bigger size. Also you should try pampers cruisers they work great when babies are crawling.

When it comes to diapers, I found that certain brands fit better than others depending on the child. The size guides on the packages are just that-guides. When I went up a size, it made a big difference. A little trial and error should help you find one that doesn't leak as much and yes, he could be peeing more, so more diaper changes! I used disposable diapers occasionally with my kids and liked Huggies brands the best for fit, comfort and absorabancy. (I sound like an ad!) Mostly, I did cloth dipaers and even with those, I had to find the right type of cover or all in one that worked best. Good luck!

I would definitely go up a size. Size 3 Cruisers actually starts at 16 lbs and if he's leaking then it's time to move up. I know with my son, I had to look at the min weight and not the max weight on the diaper size...and I've gone up even when he wasn't quite the min weight due to leaking. The switch always stopped the leaking--must be boys, I'm thining LOL

Oh and if you still had a lot of the smaller diapers left, I would try to use those during the day when you can change him more often and use the larger size at night. (Or find someone with a younger baby to give them to).
Cruisers are great move up from the swaddlers and now that the Baby Drys are stretchie like the swaddlers and the cruisers they are awesome too.

Definitely switch to a size 3 diaper. The weights listed on the box are very approximate. I too loved the swaddlers and, with my duaghter at just 15 pounds, I didn't yet consider moving to a larger size. But the leaking got worse and my husband stepped in with size 3 cruisers and . . . voila! All was contained and the baby was dry where she was supposed to be. Theywill be in 3's for a long time, I purchase mine at Sam's Club at a great price.

Normally, when diapers start leaking and it's not an excessive amount of urine or poop, then that's a good sign to switch to the next size up. It's always easier to deal with a baby in too big of a diaper than one in two small of one!
Pampers' size ranges are pretty are normally pretty close, but sometimes baby will grow right through one size in a matter of weeks, and then stay in another for quite a while.
Good Luck!

It can't hurt to try the next size. They will seem so big when you first put them on him it is a big difference but it sounds like he should be in the next size anyway.

My rule of thumb as a mother of 4 is to change them to the next size up if they are leaking, unless it is an off brand of diapers that tends to leak a lot anyways. Pampers Swaddlers are great, but my 5 month old is already in size 3. I changed him when they started leaking and he was close enough anyways. They weight they list on them is just an estimate. Each child is different.

Good luck!

I would either say yes go to a 3 or try using Huggies see how well you like them. I've seen it proven Huggies hold a lot more, my sister and I have girls about the same age.
