Do Narrow Toddler Shoes Exsist?

Hi Ladies,

I am in need of serious help....we are down to one pair of shoes that is the right size, but won't stay on b/c they are so wide. I can't find shoes anywhere that fit my 17 month old daughter. She is in at least a size 5-5.5 shoe but has EXTREMELY narrow feet and a high instep. (To give you an idea - I can put my thumb in between the sides of the shoe and her foot and still have plenty of room.) I loved PediPeds when she was younger as they were the closest thing to a shoe that fit. Unfortunately the PediPed Flex shoes are mostly Mary Janes which she can't wear due to high instep and they look huge on narrow feet. Most shoes won't tighten enough to stay on her foot so every 5 feet we have to stop and put the shoe back on. I went to Sandy's Shoes and they basically said the PediPeds were one of the narrowest brands of shoes out there. The only thing that I found that might work is a brand called Preschoolians. Has anyone tried these or found a different brand of shoe that comes in a narrow?

Thanks for all the help!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I ended up with Tsukihoshi shoes. The fit well, and they held up great. Here's their website: http://www.tsukihoshi.com/

Stride Rite would be my first choice, but they are costly. I've found that Nike is a typically narrower shoe and spending 20-25 dollars is much cheaper than the starting price of 40 dollars for a pair of stride rights. The only problem I've found with the Nike's is that the arch isn't very high.

HI T.,
What a problem. My daughter had the same issues- and still does today- Not sure if they still make them but you might try StrideRite and Buster Brown. They are expensive but those are the ones I had to keep my daughter in.
Good luck and Blessings

Poor thing! I had seriously narrow feet as a child. I wore stride-rite shoes. Nike makes a narrower shoe for tennis shoes. It gets better as they get older.

Have her measured at Stride Rite, but you can buy Stride Rite shoes on ebay cheap! Don't know where you live, but they have an outlet at Round Rock Outlets and you can get toddler shoes for about $20.

Strite Rite is the best choice. They also will measure your daughter's feet to recommend you the best fit. If you are in San Antonio there is a store in North Star Mall.

My oldest daughter had narrow feet, especially the heel and I found that Stride Right shoes were the best. They had narrower shoes. They are a little more expensive but it is worth it to have shoes that fit. Hope this helps.

Have you tried Stride Rite? My son wears those and they have worked out very well! If you can, find a store that specializes in them. In Beaumont we have McDoogle's and they are great! They fit your child and also send reminders when it might be time to come in and get fitted again. Try their website too. www.striderite.com

I would try going to Stride Rite store because the measure the width as well as all of the things you are looking for. There is one in the Barton Creek Mall.

Well, I feel your pain. My daughter's feet (and mine) are extremely narrow. I wear a 8.5AAAA and I have passed this on to my daughter. We have found that Jumping Jacks has slim shoes. The narrows are still too wide. Unfortunately, you will most likely have to go with a Mary Jane style shoe. Believe me, she is now 6 and I have looked EVERYWHERE for something other than Mary Janes. Stride Rite shoes are still too wide. You will most likely have to buy online unless you have a very specialty shoe store near you. Welcome to the land of frustration!

We have the same issue, it's the girth of the shoe. My daughter is now in a 9.5 -10 and found that Puma's have been the best tennis shoes, plus they come in cute designs and colors.
As for dress shoes and sandles, the best we found were Stride Rite and some Pedipeds which she's sort of outgrown now. We have tried Naturino but no luck there.
It's sad because she wants the cute sandals and there are so many cheap options out there but neither expensive nor cheap work for her narrow foot.
I'll keep searching and will let you know if I find anything.

I don't have time to read all your responses, so if this is a duplicate of what someone else says, sorry!! My daughter also has extremely narrow feet and Nike's have always fit her great. She loves wearing them too and often picks them over all her other shoes....she is now almost 2.

Good luck finding the right shoe for your little one.

Hi T.,

Is there a Stride-Rite shoe store in your area? Stride Rite makes high-end baby and children's shoes in all sizes. Their employees are specially trained to fit childrens' shoes, and most, if not all, of their shoes are available in all sizes and widths. Check your local malls.

Hello.

I always bought Stride Rite for my daughter when she was this age. Stride Rite has shoes in different widths. They were always great when we visited a store. They would size her feet and make suggestions for the best style. We walked out with cute shoes that fit and stickers.

Good Luck,

Hi! My daughter has a pair of Lacoste, and they are the most narrow shoes I have found - looks like they were made for narrow feet. I don't know where you can buy them, but here is the website: http://shopapparel.lacoste.com/b/Children-Girls-Shoes/397...

good luck!

Hi T., My daughter has really narrow feet also. For her, I made sure the shoes had laces and she wore thick Hanes Socks. In the summer, she wears open toe sandals that have velcro and I usually got them a half size smaller. She loved Converse and I could tighten them up easily. I would also search on ebay for narrow shoes. Hope that helps, S.

Hmmmm, well I'm sorry I don't have too much to offer up here, BUT I do know that the shoes you are talking about are really cute but also pretty expensive. I was just at Kid To Kid today in The Woodlands and they had several pairs of those shoes--gently used and at discounted prices of course. It is a high end resale shop. So, maybe if those shoes fit her you could at least get them at a discount ;/
Good luck--I know how frustrating it can be! My daughter is 18 months old and she wears a 0-3 months size in the waist and is a 18 month old in length! SO GLAD summer is here and shorts are back!! =P And yes people, she eats like a pig! =o

I don't have the name of a store, but what I can say is my daughter has narrow feet and most european shoes were a good match. We would go to stores with a huge assortment and they would measure and always pull out various european ones for her to try.

Keene sandels (at REI) are what I buy for my daughter who has the same feet as what you described. I haven't been crazy about stride rites for her little feet. We use Merrills in the winter, they are not super narrow, but seem to accommodate the high instep.

I would take her to Nordstroms. Their children's shoe department is terrific (and known for their superb customer service and return policy!). They carry a lot of the European brands plus ECO as well as Nike and the regulars.

We have stuck with Primigis and have been very happy. Yes they are expensive. But I found we were burning through too many cheap shoes and paying just as much. We keep it simple now. Only one pair of leather shoes and one pair of waterproof crocs. That seems to get us through the year just fine.

Vans slips on style shoes seem to be very narrow. You might at least give them a look. Sometimes you can find them on sale at the Vans Outlet in Katy Mills.

I spoke with a stride rite store employee and an employee from another very reputable shoe store and both said narrow shoes are very difficult to come by. As of today, Winter 2010 Stride rite does not have any narrow casual shoes nor does Irvings Shoe Fly which carries Stride Rite and other brand names. At this point Price isn't my thought. Shoes for a toddler who is 7 narrow is what I need. If I can find one I will buy one in every size up so she has shoes for at least a year!!! Can anyone help?

My advice is from the Stone Age--as my daughter who had the VERY narrow feet as a child is now 31! We always had to buy her shoes at StrideRite. I believe that there are still StrideRite stores in Houston. Just look in the phone book. Once you find a shoe that fits her, you can even order them online at shoebuys.com.

Hope this helps.

Stride Rite also has narrow shoes. I am not sure where the closest store is to you, but I think they have a website. I would contact their customer service and have them guide you on how to measure your child's feet, so you can find shoes.
