I was reading a few of these responses and noticed even here there are some half truths and the like. Like the response that mentioned that the price of oil was $40/barrel when Obama took office and is now over $100.This caught my eye because I remember the gas prices the summer of the election were high. So I checked. Yes, it was low when Obama took office, but earlier that year (before the election) it was the highest it had ever been:
From wikipedia:
"The price of oil underwent a significant decrease after the record peak of US$145 it reached in July 2008. On December 23, 2008, WTI crude oil spot price fell to US$30.28 a barrel, the lowest since the financial crisis of 2007–2010 began, and traded at between US$35 a barrel and US$82 a barrel in 2009.[3] On 31 January 2011, the Brent price hit $100 a barrel for the first time since October 2008, on concerns about the political unrest in Egypt.[4]"
I know wikipedia is not always right, but that fact is pretty well cited. Here's the link if you want to check the citations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_of_petroleum
Anyway, I'm not saying this to defend Obama. I actually think the price of oil has little to do with him or any president. I just wish people would stick to the facts and not make stuff up or take it out of context--regardless of what side of the aisle they are on. Even if we stick to the facts, it's not like there's one right answer. People have different opinions and values, so we'll still always have disagreement. I'd just rather disagree about real stuff rather than stuff that's been twisted or made up.
