I know I am crazy but we are getting another puppy....Too good to pass up. Which means I'll have three dogs and three kids. However, our other dog is getting older and slowing down that he can't keep up with our 4.5 month old puppy. So we will probably be adopting another pup on Friday. This pup will be a 9 week old German Shepherd so no foo foo names for him.
Please help me have some fun in name suggestions. Can you please make a suggestion?
Yes the dog will be a male dog. I love the name Max but that was my last dog's name. I agree no common people names for the dog :)

I have always been fond of very serious names for animals.
So serious, in fact, that sometimes they are silly.
Check out http://www.20000-names.com/male_german_names.htm
I personally would not be able to resist Adalwulf, which is German for "noble wolf."
Oh, I envy you! I just recently moved to NH, and have a lot of land area. I am waiting til next spring to get a dog, but I want a German Shephard. I know his name will be Murdock. My favorite character from A-Team..My parents had one while I was growing up, and I adored him. His name was Samson. We called him Sam for short.
Since he's a German Shepard, I agree, no frills. I love the names Max, Thor, Ahab, Tritan, Samson, Zeus, or Gandolf.
i like dog names. i am tired of the animals with people names like amanda. pleezzz

A German name for the German Shepherd, perhaps? There are plenty of them besides Max. Try this link:

My younger son and his wife have two Norwegian Elkhounds named Loki and Odin. I imagine they'll dig through Nordic mythology again if they acquire any more canines.
Actually, once you have the puppy in your home for a few days, the right name will be easy to discover!
So now I'll bore you with a family story. We used to have a trio of cats. When the first one showed up, the family couldn't agree on a name. So I christened him Anonymous. When I mentioned it to my mother, she laughed and said, "So, if you end up with a second cat, you'll have to name it Miscellaneous!" Sure enough, a year later a homeless cat showed up at our house, and she was promptly named Miscellaneous. A year or so later, when I found an abandoned four-week-old kitten in the mountains and brought her home, what else could her name be but... Et Cetera? Nonny, Missy, and Cetty. Cetty's the only one still living and she's sixteen.
What are your other dog's names. Do they have a commonality?
Our cat we named Ares. Even though she is a girl. So when we got our dog (a yellow Labradoodle) we wanted a Greek Mythology name and his name is Apollo.
We name all our animals after our favorite book/movie characters.
My big bad dog is named Brooks---The old man animal lover from Shawshank Redemption.
My Brooks is a GREAT guard dog (like yours will be) and I also considered:
The Major, or just Major----The Bad A** from The Green St. Hooligans!
We went with Brooks b/c it fits his personality better, he is the epitome of calm submissive! :)
Other cool names we have had in my family for awesome 'Big Bad Boy Dogs' have been:
Meeshack
Polluck
Castor
Kiona (Ki-own-ah)
Zi
Bo
Zyeph
~My oldest wants a German Shepard SO bad!
congrats & your theory on getting another pup is "my world". :)
moving on, after my beloved 4yo Old English Sheepdog was injured/put down, I was broken hearted. I cried & cried & cried. At the same time, our 7yo Labradoodle was completely devastated & deeply mourned the loss of his friend.
Soooo, we got a pup. He's 1/2 German Shep & 1/2 Bouvier. After reading about the Bouvier breed, we decided on a name. He came to us with the name Max, but we wanted to change it to Boovee....honoring the Bouvier in his makeup.
NOPE! Boovee did not match his personality. He was the most stubborn pup I'd ever met! Even on a leash, he refused to comply....refused to follow us...refused to even move on demand. In fact, when called, he'd lay down & have to be dragged against his will. Whether it was going in/out of the house, coming for a treat.....it didn't matter! He refused to move!
So, Tank is his name. Trying to move him in those first days .....was like trying to move a tank! Knowing that he'll top out at 80lbs minimum ....locked in the name for us. :) & occasionally, my son will call him Panzer, in deference to the German side of his genetics. :)
Oh, & my cousin has a purebred Germ Shep.....BudVonWeiser. & in our Puppy Class, the other 2 Germ Sheps are Buddy & Mawnie. For you, my vote would be MaxII (roman numeral 2).....& here's a link for German dog names: http://www.fundognames.com/male-dog-names.html
Enjoy your pup!
Thank you for letting me know it was a male! I had a dog named Kibby after kibbles n' bits lol. But I agree I like actual dog names but I have been looking and the dog name lists look the same as the baby name lists these days sheesh! I think these ones I found are either cute or just plain funny.

What a fun question.
My sister recently got a new puppy and I swear, I love her dearly, but jeez...
She was so obsessed with what to name her that it became quite annoying. My sister LOVES her dogs, but she insists on having a first and middle name that sounds just right with the family last name. Oh, Lord. I could see it perhaps, if the dog was an AKC Champion with famous blood lines or something, and I would never offend my sister, but in my mind I was thinking, "For heaven's sake! Just name her Spot and get it over with!!"
You've received some really great suggestions and I'm sure you'll get many more. I'll try not to duplicate.

Dashiell (pronounced Dashel). Dashiell Hammett wrote the Maltese Falcon

Have fun with all the ideas and let us know what you choose.
Best wishes.
