Dora-Explorer Girls?

Okay, when I first heard about this, I was horrified. I did not want Dora to grow up! Of course, now my 5 year old daughter sees the commercial and is desperate to watch this show! Is it okay for a 5 year old to watch? I googled it and couldn't find much information on recommended ages. So, should my daughter watch this show or is it to "tween"?

What can I do next?

We're watching it at my house right now...so far so good, content-wise. My oldest kid is 4.5, but he just said, "Mama, I don't want Dora all growned up!" ;-)

It is very similar, but no annoying map, much less repettition, more complex problem to solve, and the Spanish is more advanced.

I just did a search and found the doll, says it's for ages 5-8. They call it a tween doll, but I thought tween started at 8 ? To me, ages 5 and 8 are pretty different, in terms of what may be appropriate TV. Anyway, I would assume the show has the same age range. Here's the link I found.

Well Dora has been around girls that are now tweens, if they want to keep that marketing segment they had to grow her up. :p

Sad but true...

I agree with QueenoftheCastle. I just watched it and this particular episode was good. They keep in tune with the young child audience as far as content. I felt the same way growing up when Rugrats were grown up, but it turned out good :P

The reason for creating this new Dora line is to offer an alternative to moms who want their daughters to stay little girls, a little longer,
That was from that link from 1babygirl

So it seems they made this show for those moms of the original Dora watchers that are now older... so the girls could stay innocent and their little girls longer. Basically to provide a content-safe show for older girls to watch that would appeal to them. Sounds like there won't be anything a 5 yr old or even 2 yr old shouldn't watch, they just want to appeal to older girls so they make Dora older :)
