Dr. Sears' Alternative Vaccine Schedule

I have a three year old son who I have chosen not to vaccinate at all, but as I may soon put him into daycare, I may need to vaccinate him. Plus, I always had planned on reconsidering the vaccine issue when he got older, as he is now. I've read two of the Dr. Sears books, and really liked them, but they didn't have anything about vaccines in them. Where can I find infromatin on the Sears' alternative vaccine schedule?

What can I do next?

Dr. Robert Sears has a book called "The Vaccine Book" and it is all explained and laid out with the alternative schedule and all the information you could ever want to know on vaccines. It's very informative.

Go to http://www.askdrsears.com/thevaccinebook/labels/Alternati...

I googled it: Dr. Sears Alternative Vaccine Schedule. Congrats on waiting to vaccinate! I waited until after the first year with my first (5-yr old) and am currently waiting with my second (8 mos.) The older is hardly ever sick. After waiting for that first year, I then did the more important ones first (we go to mexico a lot). Most of the vaccinations required the first two years we never had, by the time we waited a year and then started with some more important ones it was past the danger time.

Hi H.--One thing you should know is that you do not have to vaccinate to put your child in daycare. I do not know the rules in IL for in-home daycares but commercial centers can not refuse you. You will need to have one of two excuses-one being a religious exemption letter which you can get from www.vaclib.org or a medical excuse. If you have a homeopath that you see, most of the time they will write one for you.

I wrote a letter using the religious excuse. Homefirst is very widely know nationally for working with parents on the vaccine issue--check out www.homefirst.com they have locations in the city and rolling meadows. Dr. Ettner that is in Evanston and out of St. Francis also does the same and will educate and support you on what ever you do.

As a matter of fact I am giving a discussion with other like minded moms on the vaccine issue on May 22 at 9:30am. There is just so much controversy right now especially with the CDC and the FDA saying that vaccines-because of the preservatives, thermisol (mercury), formaldehyde and aluminum are the main cause of autism plus many other health maladies.

I hope this extra information helps.

My kids are 15 and 10 and I have never vaccinated them. They have no problem getting into programs that require vaccinations...every state has exemption laws. All you have to do is submit a letter siting the law and signed by you and the administration of the program will put it in their file. Do you really want to vaccinate your kid just because it says you have to on a piece of paper? I've never been comfortable with vaccines...too much at risk. I've met several kids that have been damaged by vaccines. If you would like me to email you a copy of the form that I have used just let me know. It basically says that you are an informed parent and you have decided not to vaccinate your child. You can reach me at ____@____.com

Be prepared...other parents will tell you that you are riding on their kid's coat tails...that by their kids getting vaccinated you are benefiting. It may even cost you some friendships. You also have to be aware of what age kids are getting the shots. If your kid comes into contact with a live polio virus from some preschool mate's diaper, he might pick up the virus himself.

My daughter is on alternative schedule and I ran into the same issue when she started day care. In Illinois, the only expemption you can get is a religious one. Even though our religion doesn't particularly object to vaccines, I just googled religious exemptions in Illinois and borrowed the format of one of the sample letters I found. You'd think they'd let you follow your pediatrician's recommendation, but that's just not the law. Some day cares will take a physician's letter, but ours is inspected by a state nurse as part of their licensing, so we have the more strict compliance.

H. - Dr. Sears has a new book on vaccines "The Vaccine Book" which includes his alternative schedule. He also updates info from the book at www.thevaccinebook.com (but I haven't been on that yet). Good luck!
