Dr. Snider?

Is anyone familiar with Dr. Bruce Snider in Olathe (OB/GYN)? I am looking for a good doctor to try a VBAC with and he was recommended to me. Also, my current family practice doctor had heard (but he isn't sure if it is true) that the Olathe area is the only area in the metro-area that is really offering an option for VBAC. Do any of you know if this is true? Have you had resistance trying to do a VBAC in other areas of the metro?

What can I do next?

I dont have any experience with VBACs, I have heard that most hospitals/doctors wont do them anymore. But Dr. Snider has been my doctor for 10 years and I love him! So if he does them and that is what you decide on, he is great!

Good luck to you!

VBACs are very possible; don't let doctors discourage you. In fact, I would recommend the midwives at Midwest Midwifery, ###-###-####. They have excellent VBAC rates. It is not as dangerous as everyone wants us to believe, it is just that doctors 1) don't want to be sued; and 2) don't like unpredictable things that are beyond their control (like natural labor). Please contact them. I had a VBAC with Kim Anderson as my midwife after 3 days of labor, and my baby was 9.5. You can do it, and it is worth it!

I would recommend going with the midwifes at Research as well. Dr. Schwartz is their backup doctor and he is one of the few dr.'s who TRULY support VBAC. Alot of dr's will say they support VBAC but when it comes down to it they are all talk. Dr. Estrada is good but some of her associates I have not had good experiences with. Just my 2 cents.

I know that The Women's Healthcare Group at Overland Park Medical Center has doctors that are open to it. I know because I see Dr. Schlicter about it and she said they were one of only a couple of doctors in the area that will do it. If you would like another suggestion I see Dr. Schlicter there and she is wonderful!!! I am pretty sure she does VBAC.

I don't know Dr Snider but I second the great reference for Kansas City Womens Clinic at Overland Park Regional. I had a c-section with my daughter in Wisconsin. She was over 10lbs with a big head! Dr Heit at KCWC encouraged me to make my own choice & I really wanted a VBAC. He was so supportive and even induced me a week early to minimize the big baby syndrome. Well, my son's head was large also so we had a section afterall. I was happy to have the option and feel supported in it. Just really glad I had him there!

I have not heard of Dr. Snider, but I am also pregnant and had a c-section with my first. I have to have a c-section with my second for specific reasons, but the clinic I go to will give you the option of having a natural birth after a c-section if there are no medical reasons why you can't. I go to Kansas City Women's clinic at Overland Park Regional, and they also have a location at St. Luke's South. They are really a great group of Dr.'s. I see Dr. Wright, but Dr. Bishop delivered my first child, and he is great to. Hope this helps!

I am out in Independence, MO and go to Independence Women's Clinic and see Dr. Hall. I ended up with a c-section with my first baby, after over 20 hours of labor. I talked to him about the possibility of a vbac with #2 but after weighing the pros and cons with he and my husband and family we decided to go with the repeat c-section. He was very open to trying a vbac if that was what we wanted and also very open with why it works with some and not with others. So I don't think Olathe is the only area that will do them. I delivered at Centerpoint in Independence and have to say it was great. The nurses were wonderful to say the least!

Dr. Stephen Gordon does VBAC's at St. Joseph Medical Center. His office is right there in the hospital so it's a good setup for that situation (i.e. he's close while you're laboring). ###-###-####

Associated Women's Health is NOT open to a VBAC but they will do it if you insist. I think they are about the only group that fights it so hard though. I did not have a good experience with them or St Luke's in Lee's Summit. I also went to the Independence Women's Clinic at Centerpoint and they were open too a VBAC. In most circumstances, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to do the VBAC. Ultimately, it is not the doctors decision, it is yours. If you want to try the VBAC, then be persistant with who ever you see. Having said that, a good doctor makes all the difference in the world so find someone that you are comfortable with.

I had a VBAC in '09 and discovered that the physician's and his/her partners' birth philosophies can influence your personal VBAC success.

It's important to ask why, what and is this necessary throughout your pregnancy in order to obtain a more positive outcome. The outcome may not be as you expect, but you'll have a greater sense of well being, knowing you were present during decision making. Dr. Snider seems open to VBAC's, as does his practice.

I have only heard positive comments regarding his bedside manner as well.

I am not certain whether or not Olathe is the only place in the area that will do a VBAC. I can tell you that my OB/GYN is Dr. AnaLuina Estrada and she is in the same office as Dr. Bruce Snider. They are really great there and you will receive excellent care when you deliver at OMC. They have jacuzzi tubs that are absolutely amazing! Just call their office and ask about the VBAC and I'm sure they can fill you in.

Good Luck!

Dr. Snider and Dr. Estrada are both great, compassionate, doctors. (don't know about VBAC). another plus: I never waited for my monthly appts. more than 5 minutes. They were always on time. Dr. Snider delivered my baby and I really liked him. He's straightforward and was very calm during the delivery in which my daughter's heartrate kept dropping which required the use of forceps.

Yes, I am familiar with Dr. Snider - he's aesome! I've worked with him professionally as well and he will definitely give you the option of a VBAC. There are several hospitals in the KC area that do not even offer that option. Good luck to you and happy delivering!
