Hello all!

My husband and I are taking a trip to Rhode Island with our 2 boys, 18 months and 6 years old. If anyone is from that area or have any suggestions of fun places we can stop to show the boys a good time, please let me know. We are talking about going to Niagra Falls after getting to RI so do you have any experiences with kids at Niagra Falls?? I think we are leaving on Friday so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
J.

So What Happened?

Well, we drove and drove for a couple days. The boys were GOLD. I don't know if it was the DVD or the extra special treats I picked up, but they did really well! We started out late on Thursday and got to Ohio to sleep. Woke up the next morning and drove to New Jersey. I had them play in the tub at the hotel for awhile and they had a BALL! We got to our RI stop by noon and were off to the Falls. We got there later in the evening and found a hotel to sleep in, because it was saturday night and the fancier room we had reserved for Sunday and Monday was almost twice the cost. We did go down to the Horshoe Falls late that night to stretch our legs and get the kids energy out a little. The next day we got to our nice hotel, The Sharaton on the Falls. WOW what a nice place. It is a bit of an older hotel, but the view was out of this world. We bought tickets for the waterpark in the Brock hotel which is connected by indoor walkways. It was AWESOME! Although it was cold (it actually snowed Monday) it was a really fun trip. We went to the bird aviary which was really fun for the kids. All in all, it was a really uneventful, fun trip. We drove home, going through Canada, and made it home by late Tuesday night.

Thanks for all the useful advice. I would like to take a trip to Sesame Street and the Crayola Factory this summer. I also would recommend the traveling websites too. They were very helpful!

Thanks,
J.

I am from there and still have lots of family there. What are you interested in doing? There is Rgr Williams Park Zoo, great beaches that will be empty, but also fun on not-so-cold days - with some areas like Wickford that boast things to see like harbor seals. Providence Waterplace has events, but I am not sure what's going on there this time of year. They do have a huge outdoor skating arena in the heart of the city. There's also Children's Museums and such. Boston and its Aquarium, Science Museum, etc are only an hr outside of RI. Take a look at the Visitrhodeisland.com website or a few others or feel free to email me with any questions!

We stopped there on the way back of a road trip east. The view from the Canada side is best, if you can. It was a good stop for our son (3 yrs. at time) to stretch his legs, but there isn't much else to do there other than see the Falls.
Here's a site with some car game ideas- http://www.momsminivan.com/ I made little bags for when we crossed each state with some surprises in each, like a little coloring book and markers, some new little toys, snacks, etc...
Good luck!

I am originally from the Niagra Falls area and the best way to see this is to go to the Canadain side. The american side has been run down and is not very attractive at all.

One tip though you will need either passports or birth certificates to get across the border. They really have so much to do, muesuems, shops, fun spots, not sure what Marine land is like but that is just over the border. They also have a butterfly musuem that my sister said is really something.

I also went to college in Rhode Island and they have a really nice zoo, and the downtown area has really grown a lot with stuff to do on the river and so forth.

J.,
We drove from Chicago to Rhode Island when my son was 10 months and my daughter was 2 1/2 years old. We were originally going to drive straight through....bad idea! We ended up staying in NJ after driving over 12 hours. So my initial advice is don't try the non stop route.

This past August, we flew to RI and then rented a van. We drove to the Crayola Factory in Easton, PA. Check it out on www.crayola.com/factory. It was lots of fun for my now 3 year old son and 5 year old daughter. I think it would be fun for your kids ages also. We also went to Sesame Place in Lancaster, PA. (www.sesameplace.com) Check their website as I think they have activities during the non-summer months as it is 1/2 land rides, 1/2 water during the summer.

Hope this helps.
