My daughter had hers pierced at Claire's too. So have her friends. I've never heard of any problems.
Maybe some do, but I never ever hear of pediatrician's offices doing ear piercing anymore. I definitely could be wrong though.
My daughter is turning 5 and would finally like to get her ears pierced. I am looking for a place to have it done. Have read not to do it at the mall (not clean, etc.). Any recommendations would be so helpful! It's been a long time since I had mine pierced...by a needle. Also, needle vs. 'gun'?
Thank you

There are lots of pediatrician offices that offer it. That where I plan to have my daughter go when she's ready.
We just went thought this with my 6 year old in August. Claire's was recommended to us by friends because unlike a pediatricians office they have more practice in earring placement. A friend that went to her pediatrician had to have her daughters redone at the mall. Claire's also can have two people pierce the ears at the same time which helps if a child changes their mind after that first pinch and doesn't want to go through with the second ear. My mom looked at reviews online and Stoneridge Claire's seemed to have the most favorable reviews.
I pierced my daughter's ears at age 41/2 at the mall at Claires. They were very hygienic and gave us solution as part of the package to clean her ears with every day.
I had thought the same thing about the mall but after asking around to other friends who had pierced their daughters ears, that's where everyone else had it done & I couldn't find any other place to do it.
So we went to Claire's at the mall & I have to say I was impressed. They use the actual earring to puncture the ear & they stay in the ear. So it is a brand new sanitized thing that is puncturing the skin. They were very careful & seemed well trained & experienced at doing it. It didn't hurt my daughter at all (she said!) They give you a cleaner to use - which we needed to add some antiseptic lotion because at the end of 6 weeks it still hadn't healed all the way but after I called them this is what they advised...used the neosporin for about a week daily & everything was fine.
So we were happy with Claire's.
We went to Claires in the mall. Everything is sealed so I don't see how it could not be sanitary. My daughter was about 10 and she was surprised that it hurt - even using the gun. She found the healing process too difficult and took the earrings out after 2 weeks - She's never wanted to get them re-pierced. She's 13.
I've had my ears pierced three times (3 sets of holes-not re-piercing). All of them were done at Claire's or a similar place and I never had an issue. They explain very clearly about aftercare and the fact that the piercing is done with the earring stud means less handling of the wound which decreases the odds of infection.
I would recommend going with 14k gold posts. It costs more but there is a lesser chance of an allergic reaction to the metals.
My younger DD had her ears pierced 3 times- twice with the hypoallergenic studs-she apparently has a sensitivity to "cheap" metal because her ears got scary infected. The third time we paid the extra money for the 14k gold and she didn't have any infection problems. One day though she took her earrings out too soon and forgot to replace them (this was after the healing process) so one of her holes is has partially closed. She wants me to take her and get them re-pierced again but I keep trying to tell her that it doesn't need to be done professionally we just need to do it at home. She has learning and emotional disabilities though and has the lowest level of pain tolerance I've ever seen so who knows if that will ever happen.
Anyhow, don't be afraid of a place like Claire's. Do avoid the kiosks in the halls of the mall though. All will be well.
I took my daughter 3 months old to see Angel at Paisley house (find on yelp). She uses a needle or the earing itself. She was great and very qualified. Highly reccomend her.
Im going to a tattoo shop to get my daughter's done by a professional piercer. I've read too many things about piercing guns and Claire's workers lets just say.
Someone else said it but the pediatrician's office. My friend had her baby's done there.
I had my daughter's pediatrician pierce her ears and that worked out fine.
I like you, had heard and thought the mall was not a good place to go. So I found a nice professional jewlery shop and made an appointment for my daughter and niece to get their ears pierced. They were 12. My daughter chose to go first. The lady marked her ears and put in 1 ear ring and then the other. When my daughter turned to show me ...one piercing was lower then the other! I mean really bad. I could not believe it and she said I'll do it again. My daughter said yes and they re pierced the ear. So long story ( yes it's longer) short, I've since learned that going to a place like Claire's you will for sure be dealing with experienced people doing the piercing because so many people go there. Not necessarily the case with small jewelery stores even though they have quality jewelery. When the time comes to pierce my other 2 girls ears we'll be going to Claire's. Since further investigation I've found a lot of people go there and are very happy.
Good luck .
