When I was looking at eliptical machines several years ago, I spoke with a trainer at our gym. The MOST important element for me personally was to find one where the width between the feet pedals is NARROW, mainly b/c I have narrow hips. The wider versions gave me lower back aches and other physical symptoms. When i switched to the narrow models, all symptoms disappeared.

Just wanted to throw that consideration about your body type/build before you purchase.

I bought a Precor one at Sears many years ago and used it almost every day. I lost a lot of weight, but the machine broke after about a year and a half. Since I had lost so much weight and still wanted to continue using it, I bought a more expensive model (Proform) with a 10-year warranty. I would suggest checking Craig's list if you don't have the money to buy the expensive one. Or do like I did and buy a less expensive model to see if an eliptical machine is right for you. After seeing how much weight I lost, both my Dad and my sister bought one - their's are collecting dust.

If you are looking for a used one I have a Proform700 Cardio Trainer that needs a new home. My husband HAD to have this several years ago and used it maybe 5 or 6 times. He decided he would rather jog outside and now the elliptical gathers dust in the basement.

Our model has been discontinued for a cross trainer - here is a review:

If you have any questions or want to see pictures let me know.

You can have it for the smokin’ deal of $150.

Thanks,
Heather

We bought a Schwinn ellipitcal for $1,200 3 years ago and it has needed constant maintence. It is a good machine, but after 3 years needs new arm poles. My suggestion is to spend the money and get one from a home fitness store or I know a guy that sells them through Amicus fitness. Email me if you want his info.

Jillian Michaels, a trainer from The Biggest Loser, wrote an article titled "The Skinny on Elliptical Machines" that might be helpful. Here is the link.
