It's my husbands birthday next weekend and we normally spend our birthday's going out on a date, just the two of us. We'd like to start making our birthday's a family outing, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what would be appropriate for our 3 and 2 year old, and also be centered around my husband. I know it's difficult to make suggestions about entertainment when you don't know someone's interests, but I'm sure you ladies have some clever ideas out there!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your great ideas. I really like the idea of watching the Rough Riders play, but may wait until the kids are old enough to sit still long enough to enjoy some of the game. I think we may do Central Market for lunch or dinner, I completely forgot they have a playground there! We've done Great Wolf Lodge for my daughter's 3rd birthday and had such a great time, that we plan to do that every year for her birthday which is in March and it's the perfect excuss to go swimming while it's still cold outside! After doing some research I think we will ride the Tarantula from Grapevine to the Stockyards and back. The kids love trains (of course what child isn't facinated by them) and neither of us have been on one, it's a win-win!

We like to go to the Frisco Roughriders baseball. It is a small ballpark, very family friendly, social outing and fun.

We also like to go to Lone Star Park but I think live racing is over right now. We did Lone Star Park this year for hubby's bday. We went up to the Silks buffet area, daughter brought a friend and we all had a great time!

Enjoy!

Not sure where you are located, but FW Cats games are fun and fairly inexpensive...

M.,
I was going to suggest the same thing - go to a Roughriders game. You're in luck because next Friday and Saturday are both home games plus it's the McDonalds Friends and Family night. You get 4 tickets, 4 McDonald's meals (to be used away from the park) and 4 RR baseball hats for $29.99. Before the game, you can go eat at one of the many restaurants that are literlly next door to the park - we went Thursday night and ate at Fridays before the game :-) I'll post the link, just be sure if you pick up your tickets at WillCall that you get there at least 30 minutes early because the line will be a bit long...

Have fun if you decide to go!

I would recommend the Great Wolf Lodge indoor water park in Grapevine...it's awesome and fun for the whole family. If that is a bit out of your price range, perhaps look into a day of swimming at your local pool, preferably an indoor covered pool. Have fun!

Depending upon your husband's interests, I have 2 suggestions: 1) If he's an outdoorsy type, you could go on a day trip to a state park, bring a picnic, rent a boat or go swimming or go for a hike--depending upon the weather, of course--it might be a bit hot in August.... 2) You could also look around for a music festival of some sort. DH and I used to love to go to shows before DD was born; last summer, for vacation, we went to the Sunflower Blues and Gospel fest in Mississippi (where DH is from)--saw some GREAT music, and did miss the nightime shows, but there were great performers during the day, and DD (then 16 mos) had a blast, too, "dancing" and making friends with the other kids!

Great ideas...also if you are around the Irving, GP, Arl area the Grand Prairie Airhogs are the baseball team to see.
They even have a pool that you could check into on seeing how you could swim and invite some other adult and kid friends. If you let them know too you can have Hubby's name announced on the Birthday screen. It is a fun night as well for all ages.

This next year I am taking hubby on a fishing guide trip as I understand they do everything for you so that might be another option if your little one's love water and boating.
My friend just went this week to Lake Lewisville so you can go close by.

Central Market(on Hulen St.in Fort Worth) is another option. They have live music out on their large patio on Thurs, Fri, & Saturdays. You can go inside and buy any food you would like, and then take it outside and listen to the music. And then for the kids there is a playground right there that they can play on. Its free except for whatever food and drinks you buy. Maybe you could plan ahead and get a table that is already set up real nice for him when you arrive!
