I homeschool my sons and was wondering if anyone knows of a farm we can visit for a field trip? It will be a short day trip so hopefully in the north texas area.

Henrietta Creek Orchards off Old Denton Rd. near I-35 used to have a garden that homeschoolers would work in. Don't know if the place still exists.
Owens Country Sausage in Richardson has a pig farm not far from Central Expressway.
When my kids were younger, they went on a field trip to Samuell Farm in Mesquite. You can get information from their website: http://www.samuellfarm.com/. In doing an online search to find the name of the farm (since it has been about 10 years since my boys went there), I found a listing of a bunch of farms in the area: http://www.town-mall.net/entertainment/duderanch3.html.

I know a fabulous, REAL, working farm to visit. It is R&C Dairy in Collinsville, TX. Their website is www.randcdairy.com. The owners are Rocky and Carol Testerman. This is a dairy farm that sells raw (unpasteurized) goat and cow milk products. They are state inspected and certified. The farm is north of Dallas. Take the Tollway north to the end. Take Route 380 west to Route 377. Take Route 377 north to the farm. Farm is on the left before you get to the town of Collinsville.
I started buying goat milk products here for my daughter when I discovered she had a casein intolerance. She's been on the milk for a year, just received her follow-up test results yesterday. Her digestion and nutrient absorption are completely normal!! I am so grateful to Rocky and Carol for providing our community with quality raw dairy products. What a great educational opportunity for homeschoolers!! Nutrition education is SOOOO lacking in regular schools.
Farm is open to the public Friday and Saturday afternoon from Noon to 4pm. You can usually ask for a taste. You may even ask Carol to show the kids the room and equipment they use to milk the goats and cows. You will see how sanitary it is. Much more sanitary than commercial dairies. They also sell fresh eggs, baked goods, fruit in season.
The farm has new baby goats that we visited in March. SOOOO cute!!! They have more babies due in April. They also have chickens and colorful roosters the kids can feed with grass they pull from around the chicken pen. They can feed grass to the older goats as well. Sometimes there are baby chicks. They also have border collies they use to round up the goats. Rocky is also a fireman in The Colony. If Rocky is there, he may show you the parrot collection. Really nice day trip. My daughter loves going there. Takes about an hour from north dallas.

Owens Spring Creek Farm in Richardson does tours. And there's Heritage Farmstead in Plano - but I haven't been there before.
Owens is cute and they offer a little hayride.... kids can get some feed to hand-feed the animals.

Try the Double D ranch in Mesquite, TX. It is not a working farm but it does have a lot of activities and caters to field trips and small groups. I am sure they would love to have you. You also could check with Mrs. R at Circle of Science here in Flower Mound. She recently moved locations but you can look up her website. She always has plants, animals and a great atmosphere with a small farm feel. She works with homeschoolers, her specialty is science and learning by doing!
