M.P.
I suggest you ask him what he'd like. I know several men who do not like casseroles. Also, as we age, we tend to have favorites. It would be a shame to give him a food he didn't eat.
My neighbor was injured. He's an older man who lives alone. I want to bring him a big casserole with a standard yummy comforting dish. All I ever make here is salad.....He's got no diet limitations other than he's allergic to mushrooms.
What are some favorite recipes? Names of dishes would be good enough, i can google recipes! Thank you!

Not a casserole, but here are some hearty things that also reheat well, so can be multiple meals.
meatloaf, yummy and also leftovers make good sandwiches
pot roast with potatoes, carrots, etc.
chili with a side of corn bread
hearty beef stew with bread on the side
Chilli? That's manly!
I don't really think of casseroles as not being manly, so I would just make whatever I feel I'm good at. I have a chicken and rice casserole that I absolutely love, so that would be my go to.
Hot roast beef sandwiches and mashed potatoes
Meat loaf & gravy & mashed potatoes
Hot turkey sandwiches with gravy & mashed potatoes
Did I already say mashed potatoes? 😐
You are so sweet to think of your neighbor. So many people only care about themselves these days.
My hubby loves chicken and noodles. He could eat that daily. I just stew chicken then cut in bite sized pieces and add egg noodles to the pot and let it simmer. This is our go to comfort food when it is cold or when we feel ill.
Hubby's all time favorite is a great steak. That is kindof hard to do with a neighbor meal though.
Chicken broccoli divan.
Pulled Pork
Beef Stew
Chili
Hope that helps a little
I agree to go with chili or something that he can serve himself and then freeze the rest. If he lives alone, he might like something that is easy to freeze or portion out so you may even want to deliver it in one serving type containers. Ziplock sells some round containers with screw on lids that are great for this type thing and can easily be thrown in the freezer.
when I"m cooking to help someone out, I often give them 2 or three choices. That way I'm not cooking outside of my comfort zone and they are more likely to get something they will actually eat. Also, they can plan around my meal instead of me surprising them with it.
my comfort food is soup
I'm vegetarian now, but still to this day, chicken noodle soup makes my day.
That is so thoughtful of you!
How about some cream of potatoe soup?

I like this recipe...I just add diced ham to make more of a meal.
Hope the link pasted ok
Or baked spaghetti with Italian sausage....I make it in a 9x13 and he can freeze sections.
I think I got the recipe from allrecipes.
ETA: what about shepards pie?
meat. bacon. potatoes. a good one is something like the pizza skins at pizzeria uno - mashed potatoes in a pizza crust, topped with cheese and bacon bits. omg i'm getting hungry lol. here's a similar recipe: http://www.food.com/recipe/pizzeria-unos-pizza-skins-232831
not very healthy though!
Since it's the middle of winter, I'd go with lasagna (meat or eggplant), chicken pot pie (meat & veggies), shepherd's pie, tamale pie (with peppers, beans, ground meat and corn), meatloaf and roasted herbed potatoes/broccoli/cauliflower mix, chicken breaded with a combination of panko bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese, and anything with roasted vegetables (you can mix white potatoes, sweet potatoes, any root vegetables like carrots & onions, and drizzle some olive oil & herbs on top).
Put everything in single-serve containers or disposables so he doesn't have to deal with breaking up a big casserole into dinner-sized portions. Label them with a piece of paper with the name of the dish and microwaving or reheating instructions. Remember that older people who are injured and have to remain inactive are not going to eat a lot at one sitting. Make sure her has freezer space before you do all of this. Otherwise divide meals between his freezer and your own, and then take him a new supply next week or the week after. That way he won't have to eat the same thing every day.
Also include a few pieces of fruit in case he doesn't have anyone doing his grocery shopping for him. He needs fiber if he's just sitting around a lot!
My husband loves quiche with flaky crusts, and chicken stir fry over a bed of basmati rice. How thoughtful of you! Hearty stews and soups with a loaf of homemade bread are also very soothing.
beef stew
chili
hamburger hotdish
ham with scalloped potatoes
My husband AND grown son hate casseroles (I think casseroles are more of a "mom" dish because they are easy and cheap.) My guys like hearty stews, soups, jambalaya, lasagna, fried chicken, ribs, ham sandwiches, stir fry, enchiladas, stuff like that.
Our Pastor's favorite is Chicken Parmesan. Here's how I do it: Brown chicken breasts in a skillet. Add a jar of spaghetti sauce (I use Bertolli 4 cheese sauce - good as homemade) and slices of Romano Cheese on top of chicken. Simmer and sprinkle Parmesan cheese at end. So easy !
I would ask him. I looked through the suggestions here and while I eat most of them, there is not a single one DH would eat. You are very considerate.
All good suggestions, I will add, Stew with crusty bead and a chunk of cheese.
My husband loves Tuna casserole. My secret ingredient is l"ow fat sour cream" to the cream of celery soup portion. but you would need to ask if this guy likes it.
Down here Men love sliced "moist" Brisket on white bread with raw onions and tangy BBQ.
Big Sub sandwiches
Cheese soup with lots of Ham
Fried chicken with mashed potatoes
Crock pot roast with Potatoes, Carrots, celery onions.

Ask him if he needs any groceries from the store (breakfast rolls, OJ, milk, lunchmeat, bread, cereal, milk, coffee, a magazine, newspaper, cookies, chips)
Manly comfort food?
Pot Roast w/all the trimmings.
My husband cant stand casseroles. Most men I know are meat and potato guys, or burgers and stuff like that.
I would also ask what are some of his favorites. This way you are not wasting food.
DHs favorite is brisket. :)
