for my daycare, I use the plastic cheapies.
When my own children were little, I bought a small rocker from Cracker Barrel. It was beyond sturdy! Cracker Barrel uses them outside....so you could too.
At Walmart today they had some really cute plastic toddler chairs on clearance for $5.00... so I picked one up. My 1 year old DD loves it... but it isn't quite sturdy enough for my taste. It is VERY sturdy as far as forward-backward goes... but it tips sideways pretty easily. She does pretty good as far as sitting in it without tipping it... so it's fine for her to sit in inside (If she tips it, it's not going to actually injure her.) I would like to find a chair that WON'T tip over so easily for outside on the patio. It's cement, so it would be pretty painful for her to tip it over! So... What's your favorite, most sturdy chair for a toddler? :) The cheaper, the better... but it needs to be able to handle the elements. :)

We have a wooden table and chairs that are very sturdy. Purchased from Toys R Us a few years back.
My parents bought our kids a little card table and chairs from Bed Bath & Beyond and those are very sturdy too. And both the table & chairs fold for easy storage.
I have seen some cute stuff at Ikea, but we didn't need anything else, so I didn't look all that close at it.
We got a canvas folding princess chair from Kohls several years ago for outside that is very sturdy and my DD loves it, and I think after sale and coupons I paid about $3. They tend to only carry them in the summer but the season is right so they may be showing up again.
we have a toddler size canvass, folding chair. it is really great. We also have a little wooden table and chair set for inside which is super sturdy, it looks like ikea or something.. we got it used.
I bought one at Target a few years ago. They were back in the summer/garden seasonal area. It is white with a flowery vinyl like seat. It looks like one of the patio chairs you would buy for adults, just in a smaller size. My daughter is 6 now and still uses it. We have never had any problem with it tipping. The price may be kind of high. I remember paying about $12.99 for ours, but it has been worth the money.
Our neighbor gave my son a plastic Adirondack style chair for his birthday last year and we love it! First, b/c of the style of chair, it has a wide base. Second, low to the ground. Third, he can't "tip" it b/c of the style of the chair. Finally- it's plastic so we just hose it off!
I think she found it at Toys R Us for $10 and bought one for all of the kiddos last summer!
