FDA Approved Diet Pill and B12 Shot- Anyone Tried It?

I am going to be starting a diet plan through my doctor that consists of combining diet and exercise with an FDA approved diet pill and a B12 shot for energy. I was a little worried when she mentioned the B12 shot because I don't want to be starving myself to the point where I need a shot for energy. Has anyone else used FDA approved medication and/or B12 shots?

What can I do next?

Is it Phentermine? I have taken it before with a lot of success. Some of us need a little boost to get weight loss started. I also had the b-12 shots. Not a big deal & I really didn't notice a difference. I'm thinking about trying it again . After my daughter was born I'm having a very hard time loosing weight. I have about 40lbs to loose. I've been exercising 60min a day 5x's a week and monitoring by diet(1500 cal), I've only lost 7 lbs in 2 months. In the past my body has done very well with a month of Phentermine, usually about 15-20lbs. Then steady weight loss from there. No matter what diet pill you are taking if you don't exercise & eat right it won't work.

My mother actually gets B-12 shots. She has an inherited resistance to the absorption of B-12 any other way. She says they make her feel completely refreshed. She had been really tired and drained and didn't know why, and now she is not bouncing with energy, but can function.
Apparently this is really common in women according to her dr, and I intend to be tested for it as well. If you have the resistance, you cannot absorb any B-12 through vitamins taken orally, it must be injected.
I have no idea what the disorder is called though!

I don't have any info on the diet pills- sounds a bit scary! It's always in the news how often they get recalled for damaging people's livers, etc and I had a cousin who used a product sold at GNC over the counter that nearly put her on dialysis and really messed up her liver as well. I would be VERY cautious!

i have used it and it does help however the reason for the b12 shot is when you go on a diet you send your body into shock and some of the vitamins your body needs are lost so they give the shot to help replace those vitamins. good luck with your diet.

I agree with the previous poster with regard to diet pills. I would talk to your dr about just doing the diet and execise first. I don't have any knowledge of B-12 so I cannot comment on that. I have looked at various diet pills though never taken any and it seems that one should do just as well without them since they only work with proper diet and exercise. I would also worry about becoming dependent on them. The pills seem to do various things to your appetite, but a healthy lifestyle requires you to learn when you are hungry and to eat appropriately. Pills just provide a false sense of satisfaction.

I wish you the best.

I think the best way, is the healthy way. It's difficult, but so is everything else when you're trying to discipline yourself. Do you have a friend that would diet and excercise with you?

I have taken a diet pill that is prescribed with a B12 shot and doctors highly recommend that. If you are under the supervision of a doctor why worry. They know what is good for you. I recommend it, just make sure you are watching what you eat and keep exercising because the pills alone will make you lose weight but once you stop the pill because you are now at your ideal weight, it might creep back up. If you keep exercising you will maintain that weight, so go for it.

Just because something is FDA approved does not mean that it does not come with side effects. I have been in the fitness industry over 20 years and have seen diet pills come and go. You will lose weight by taking these drugs. Please be aware that any time you take a drug, there are side effects.

As far as keeping the weight off, the only way to do that is through making healthy eating choices and exercising daily. The weight will only stay off as long as you are taking the drugs. The longer you take the drugs has an increase on the side effects. Sometimes the side effects do not show up right away. If you look up popular weight loss drugs over the years, most of them eventually get taken off the market eventually. Most people that I have seen that have had success with these types of drugs, eventually end up gaining back the weight that they have lost plus some. Just make sure you educate yourself on what you are taking, and what all of the risks are. Good luck!

Hi C.,
I have also had B12 shots in the past and they are wonderful. In addition to a diet pill it will not harm you in ANY way. I have talked to doctor upon doctor and they have said the same. Of course everyone thinks it's bad to use a diet pill but you're right, sometimes people need that extra help, especially the older we get and the more kids we have. Anyways, the B12 shot mad me feel great. I wouldn't say energized but I would say greatly refreshed. I took the shot every 2 weeks and really felt a difference when I took them. The other option that I was told is to get the liquid, under the toungue B12. It's a little hard to find though. The tablets don't work, it has to be a shot or liquid.
Good luck and all the best!
