Feeding Schedule for 10 Month Old Daughter

My daughter is almost 10 months old,and I was curious of a sample feeding schedule. What does your child (specific amounts) eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? I know that every child is unique, but I was hoping to peek at a few samples for ideas. I'm a first time mother and appreciate your help!

My daughter is almost 10 months old and she is down to 3 formula bottles a day. She gets cereal and fruit in the morning about 6-7 tablespoons and a jar of fruit, then she gets a bottle mid-morning...she's been doing great with vegitables and chicken. She does really well...for snacks she gets the Gerber Puffs and/or Cheerios mixed in. She can't have dairy, another food i've tried is the pancake mix you just add water too, she loves those. She will get a bottle mid afternoon and the last one before bedtime.

A great schedule and a great way to drop bottles!

Wake up: Breakfast
Mid-morning: bottle
Early Afternoon/Late morning: Lunch
Mid afternoon: bottle
Early Evening: Dinner
Before Bed: Bottle

Eventually, as your baby gets older and is more interested in food, she/he will gradually drink less bottles during the day (typically, one bottle at a time). If they only want a few ounces, simply remove the bottle and integrate a snack. Within days, that bottle drops and turns into a snack. Once daytime bottles are dropped, work on the nighttime bottle. As the baby approaches a year, give yogurt about a 1/2 hour before the normal bedtime bottle...soon, your baby will eat enough yogurt to eat less and less bottle...and eventually remove. Yogurt is a great substitute!

Types of things to eat: stick to whole foods! Steam the harder veggies and fruits to her/his preferred texture. Great starters are steamed peas, carrots, baked sweet potatoes, bananas, avacados. if providing grains, stick to whole grains such as oatmeal, rice, millet and barley. Give whole wheat if providing wheat...try to stay away from continuous use of pastas and breads...they really are nutritionless and do nothing for the baby! you can even find look alike cheerios that are oat based and not wheat. lastly, a great trick is soaking fortified cereals in milk (to soften) and give them to the baby...they love it!

Nicolas, or the Pickle, as we call him first has a bottle in the morning while he is in bed which gives me another half hour to lay down. Around 8 am I give him a baby yo yogurt mixed with cereal and juice. At around 10:30 (after the morning nap) I will give him some cheerios, cheese or a fruit bar. He eats lunch around noon which is either jar food or little bits of chicken and veggies or grilled cheese. He gets another bottle to go to nap and then when he wakes up I typically will give him a yogurt. For dinner he will have a variety of things: pasta, chicken, etc. He is a big fan of tortellini or anything with tomato sauce. Hope this helps!

Hi W.! I have an 11 month old daughter! She loves to eat. I give her about 5-6 meals a day but she is still on baby food, here is what I normally feed her:
-
Upon waking up - oatmeal or barley cereal, baby fruits, water, and a bottle
Mid morning snack - 1/2 banana & 1/2 whole wheat bagel, water
Lunch - A couple jars of baby food (green & orange), bottle
Afternoon snack - cheese and some kind of fruit like cut up pears or peaches or puffs
Dinner - cereal and yogurt (like Yo Baby) with fruit in it, water, and a bottle
Night time bottle

Your daughter will tell you when she is ready for solid foods! I'm just starting to feed her additional foods such as whole wheat pasta for dinner or a whole wheat sandwich with hummus, etc...she isn't that picky...YET! :)))

What? You mean you haven't started on real food yet? :)

I am looking for the same thing - Just wanted to say something positive and a 'good for you'.

As far as a schedule, until I hear otherwise, it will be a 3 meal plan. Morning, noon/afternoon, evening. DS (Dear Son) will decide the rest of the meal plan.

All I've heard is nurse first, feed second, and he won't lose his natural source of food.

After he was born, all the coaches I saw said: If you want a happy baby, ditch the schedule idea. He will tell you when he is hungry.

So, all I intend to do is have the food available during those meal times, whenever they happen, and we'll work from there. He may decide that applesauce and bananas are a regular 5 course meal, but until then... :)

I'm not sure how attached you are to having a schedule...so I hope this helps.

my son is 10 months old and thank god is a great eater...

for breakfast he has usually either oatmeal ( only baby food he eats currently) 1/2 banana or another fresh fruit and water in a sippy cup,he also likes to have an egg (1)
then some cherrios for him to pick up himself

lunch: 1 slice of turkey , fruit and water, or yougurt and a rice cake

dinner protein, either chix cutlet grilled a small one, mini burger, meatball. turkey ( whatever we are eating) he will have a fresh veggie, and some fruit and water.

He is good eater, he would keep eating if i let him. we dont do juice yet, since he likes his water... and he enjoys his food. I would rather him no have the sweet drink taste. I hope this helps.

Hi W., I don't know if this will help, but when I first started my children off with their food it was First Rice according to the package, then I fed the baby that for 3 days. It's the 3 day rule, that way you know weather they have a reaction to it. Then I alway go to rice then Bannana's for 3 days. The small Bannanas and a little rice stage. (1 bannanas.) Then it's Oatmeal for 3 day's then I get into trying the jars of fruit like apple, start off with the 2.5oz jar or plastic container and you just keep going on from there. apples, pears, etc. with alittle rice or oatmeal. My daughter now is 9 months and she eats for breakfast a 4oz bottle in the morning when she first gets up then about a hour later she eats a 3.5 oz jar of apple and bannana mixed (1 Jar) Then about 3 p.m She might want somemore of something I will only give her one jar. Then for Dinner about 5p.m its 2 jars of either carrots and a fruit. I want you to know that she started eating when she was 5 months. I know some mothers wait.I stopped breast feeding her about 8 months so now she gets about 4 bottles a day. Hope this helps. Dina....

I had a book called "The Contented Little Baby: The Simple Secrets of Calm, Confident Parenting" by Gina Ford. Although I didn't use the book much for the parenting strategies it has a references for each month with sample feeding and sleeping schedules. these really helped me feel like i was "doing the right thing".

at 10 monts old it could really vary by child,

My oldest could eat non stop

middle sometimes eats one real meal per day.

and my baby, needs all 3 meals timely with snacks in between.

he eats a small bowl/cup of cereal with fruit for breakfast.
either a banana, or a dole fruit cup. rice krispy cereal.

OR PANcakeS , waffles, with fruit.ONE

( my son will also eat eggs, but he is not allergic, and i don't make them everyday)

a snack might be crackers and cheese and cold cuts like turkey
4-5 crackers 1 chunk of cheese and 2-3 slices of turkey
( he usually eats more of one thing like all the cracker and a few bites of turkey, or a bite of cheese, and the turkey and not the crackers.)

LUNCH,
I make grilled cheese, turkey panini
(in the george foreman grill)
chicken nuggets, fish sticks, broccoli with cheese,
left overs- stew and soup
pasta, french fries,

Usually I make one grilled cheese and cut it into triangles
same with the panini
and i make 5 chicken nuggets, fishsticks,
broccoli with cheese i mix with a microwave mac N cheese
broccoli i make a bag and keep it for dinner.
LEFTOVERS-- usually i make stewed chicken or beef 2 times per week-- throw it in a pot add carrots, potatoes, onion, garlic, and seasoning with water and let it cook for about an hour, Hubby gets leftovers for lunch and i keep some in a sandwich sized container, and nuke those for the baby.

PAsta i make fresh, and save the rest for dinner,
I also save a little in a container for the baby for another day,

ANd the food processor is great if your baby doesn't eat solids as much.

Hope these ideas help, and don't worry about portions because each baby eats at their own pace,

My middle litterally eat NOTHING,

this morning he would rather play than eat, I have offered him cereal, I made sausage and eggs and toast for my husband, and he didn't want that,

My eldest leaves every morning for school without breakfast, but last year he ate breakfast everyday.
( the food is ready for him , he just doesn't want it says he isn't hungry)

And the baby is still sleeping he will wake up famished,
and need a full course meal,
today it will be banana, and rice krispy cereal with milk
he will make a huge mess of course
( PS add formula or breast milk if you like)

Hi, my son was not a big morning eater, he prefered and still does a bigger lunch. At about 10 months I started him on this schedule and still keep to it with bigger portions now.
-Wake up- bottle 5-6 oz
-Mid-morning- breakfast,examples- yogurt& fruit/pancake & fruit/waffle & fruit/ cheerios & fruit etc.
-nap
-Lunch- 1/2 toasted cheese,or small dish of homemade chicken soup,or pasta with veggies and parm cheese, or bananna french toast, some cooked carrots & peas with cut up string cheese(his fav.), eggs with cheese and broccoli I always give a small amount of fruit too.
-3:00-bottle 5-6 oz
5:30 Dinner- all of the same choices for lunch only I add a bigger portion of veggies (cut up sweet potato, cold cooked beets..his fav too because they're so sweet, cold cooked cauliflower) and maybe some fruit,-and I would let him try whatever we are eating for dinner- you may find something new your daughter will like.
7-7:30 Bottle 5-6 oz
8:00 Bed
I know this is overly detailed... but a friend recommended this when my son 1st got into eating lots of different foods. My son was a premie and he is still a little skinny so I continue to let him eat as much as he wants. I hope this helps...let me know what you try. Good luck A.

My daughter is the same age and her feeding schedule is as follows: 7:00 am 6oz. bottle, 9:30-10am a stage 2 jar of fruit mixed with a grain (like apple and banana with granola), 11:30 am 8 oz. bottle, then she takes a two hour nap, at 2:30pm she eats a stage 2 vegatable jar, at 4:00 she takes another 6 oz. bottle, at 6pm she eats either a stage 2 dinner jar and a yoyo baby yougurt OR a stage 3 jar and some cut up cooked veggies that we are eating with our dinner (cut very small of course). Each night as the rest of the family eats dinner she sits in her high chair eating cherios at the table with us. At 8:45 she gets an 8 oz. bottle, and sleeps through the night. I have 3 children 9, 4, and 9.5 months. This works really well for us.

My son (my second child) is also ten months. I mix a container of the gerber fruit or fruit that I've pureed myself with some baby cereal for breakfast and just let him eat until he doesn't want any more then I give him a sippy cup of either juice or water to sip at will until I'm ready for him to get out of the high chair. Lunch is usually a veggie or whatever my 4 year old is eating but mashed up. Supper is whatever we are eating mashed up. If he's hungry in between I give him formula (especially to go down for a nap) or cheerios and juice or water. I don't know specific amounts because I just let him eat until he decides he's full. I don't worry about him eating too much at this stage because he's growing so fast and all the crawling and walking he does he needs the extra calories. The only things I don't give him are milk, spicey food, rice and bananas (the last two only because they make him constipated). Hope that helps!

I think it really does depend on your child. I nursed my daughter till 5 months old, but we started a sippy cup and cereal by 3 months. The by 8 months we were on 3 meals a day of real food. And before I knew it we had stopped the bottles and formula at 10 months. She was eating more real food than the bottle, so we went with it. She is in daycare during the week, but our schedule together normally fluctuates about and hour or so a day. I think it is hard to stick to a "set" schedule when they are this little and change so rapidly - sometimes on a daily basis. Some nights when we get home she will just pick at her dinner and other nights she can not get enough! I would say just keep feeding her - if she is eating it, keep giving it and she is giving the signs that she is done and you feel that she has not eaten enough, don't panic to much. I have learned over the 13 months of my daughter that they will do what they want when they are ready. As long as she is gaining weight, she is all healthy!
