Ugh, I hate fever blisters! What has worked for me is this. Usually when I'm starting to get one I feel a little tingling and itching around the spot (mine are always in the same spot). Once I feel that I take a few Lysine tablets (over the counter vitamin). That usually stops it from coming on through. I know some people take this vitamin daily as to keep the blisters away but I don't get them that often so just taking a few when they're starting to pop up works for me. If I don't get it in time and it pops up anyway then I take prescription Valtrex. I've tried abreva but it didn't work for me. Hope this helps.

I too get fever blisters, but far less than I used to. They are part of the same virus as Chicken Pox and it becomes active in your system at times - and the bad part, you'll either get none or many. Get a prescription of Valtrex and the minute you feel on coming on (you know the symptoms, small sensitive spot, tingling ..) take it immediately and sometimes have to take another 12 hours later. I can usually take just one and it never progresses and any symptoms are gone by the next day. Only one or two pills do the trick so a rx lasts for a fairly long time. It's worth the cost of the medicine because mine would last a week or more and be terrible uncomfortable. Hope this helps!

I hope you get better soon, K.! I get fever blisters when I'm stressed out and/or haven't been getting enough rest. You might take a look at your schedule and see if there are any commitments that you could let go of or put on hold to give yourself more time to rest and recuperate. (I know, 'yeah, right', huh? But it's worth a shot.)

I have the same problem and it is caused by the herpes virus. The sun will bring on an episode of blisters but mainly stress.
I read an old wives tale and tried it. I placed a tea bag in some heated water and then placed the warm bag on the sores and it helped and also when you first feel the onset of the blister, place an icecube on the sore. But I went to the doctor and he ordered me Valtrex for the problem. Believe it or not, I took 2 that day and the next day the blisters were gone. This is a sure thing.

I used to get them all the time too. I have found L-Lysine is the only thing that really works. I take two to get it started in my system when a blister is present and then one twice a day until it's gone. L-Lysine helps it clear up faster. If you continue for awhile with at least one a day even when you don't have a blister present it will help to keep them away. I use to take it every day for quite awhile but now, I only take it when I feel one coming up. You will find L-Lysine at most stores with the vitamins. It does not cost very much so it is a very inexpense, easy way to get rid of them. I hope this helps you and God Bless, B.

Fever blisters are a type of Herpes. I get them too. Go to your doctor and ask him for some medicine to shorten their "life span". It starts with a Z -- I think.

I don't kiss anyone ANYWHERE when I get them as they are contagious.

I will try not to repeat what others have already written. This is something my husband has had a problem with all his life. He has prescription medication for it. I have learned that if he keeps his diet less acidic and more alkaline then he doesn't have breakouts. I suggest googling the pH Diet to learn what foods to avoid and which are good.

I started having the fever blisters in elementary school. When I turned 18 the doctor prescribed Valtrex. It did not work for me. Its really cheap with my insurance, but just did not work for my fever blister. So I started taking the lysine and it works for me. I havent gotten the dosing down yet...I'm trying out different doses to see what the lowest is that will still work for me. Good luck!

Hey K.,

I use Abreva as soon as I feel tingling on my lip, and I have not had a breakout in 2 years. I also always wear sunscreen on my lips if I'm tanning, in the wind, in the sun or skiing. Good luck!

hey. i used to get alot of fever blisters also. they began when i was a young child. my doctor prescribed Zovarax ointment. Since then I've learned that taking an anti-oxident called L-Lysine is the key to keeping away those nasty blisters that will eventually spread to other areas of your face if not treated properly.

I take a capsule of L-Lysine daily. If I happen to forget or run out for some weeks and I see the beginnings of another fever blister---That's when I pop about 4 capsules into my mouth the first day. Three the second day and then 2 and then back to 1 per day. That sudden big dose puts a halt to the production of the sore. It seems to get your body back to normal. Also lowering your stress level, if possible, is a good way to help your body to function as it should. The ointment is an excellent source of medication to treat the sore once it has appeared. Although like any virus, it must run its course of approx. 9 days before it vanishes completely. And then if the source of the sore was not treated, meaning the L-Lysine taken in proper dosage, the cold sore will return quickly.

Good Luck and God Bless you.

You need to up your vitamin C intake and take L-Lysine (can be purchased at Wal-mart) one time a day for about a month. Stress can cause an incrase in these blisters be sure and take time for yourself and relax. Your doctor can prescribe Zovirax in pill form or cream. I have an ongoing script so when I feel the burn I take a pill and usually prevent the outbreak. The L-lysine really helps though. I have had these since I was three, have had as many as 50 at a time across bridge of nose and cheeks. Watch sun and stress. Welcome questions anytime, I am an expert.

I used to get them one right after the other until someone suggested that I take a vitamin called L-Lysine. You can get it at Wal-Mart, after taking them for a while, I have never gotten another one.

I used to get them really bad as a kid, and I still get them now when I get stressed out or sick. I had a prescription ointment called Zovirax that I used to use, now I mostly use Abreva (over the counter) when I have an outbreak.

I use to have that same problem. I was told I was having break outs due to a nut allergy. I cannot eat nuts, or anything with nuts, peanut butter etc. Also dark colas. But, I also was told if I had a break out or felt like one was coming on I take L-Lysine. You can take it daily to prevent or if I have a break out I take 2 tablets 3 times a day. I ask my Pharmicist about this and said it would be fine. This was a great help to me. I have shared this with many people who most of them has had good results. Also daily I put 30 sunscreen on my lips when i put on my lipstick this has helped me not to break out in the sun. The sun will make you fever blisters pop out. Good Luck and I hope this info helps you as much as it has me.

It may not be a fever blister. See a dermatologist. Several years ago, I had a spot on the tip of my nose that would become irritated, swell and bleed every couple of months. It turned out to be a skin cancer. I had it removed and luckily it was benign. I have had no trouble since!

I also have horrible fever blisters and the only thing I have found that works for me is Valtrex. It has to be prescribed by a doctor and it can be expensive (especially if you don't have insurance). I can always tell when I am getting them and I'll take 1000mg then and then another 1000mg 12-24 hours later and it works wonders for me.

My daughter and sister have been plagued by fever blisters, so i know a few things. You should eat alot of yogurt and take lycine tablets. The tablet should be in stores where the vitamins are. If this doesn't help, you need to go to your doctor.

I get an big ugly fever blister/cold sore/ herpes right next to my mouth about 2 or 3 times a year. I recently started taking L-Lysine which is a amino acid that is supposed to suppress the virus. We will see.
