My 6 year old had strep throat around Nov 19th. She has took all of her meds and she still isnt feeling well. She has missed school from fever and stomach hurting. Today her throat head ears hurt and she has fever....any ideas if it could still be the strep?

What can I do next?

Yes...
Or, Sometimes, a secondary infection can erupt.
Or the antibiotic used... did not work. Thus, an antibiotic from another family of antibiotics... has to be used.
Regardless, you need to tell your Pediatrician.

all the best,

Yes, it could still be strep. She may need another round of antibiotics or a stronger one. She needs to be seen again. Usually they like to see them for a follow up in two weeks after the diagnosis anyway. So take her asap.

Yup. It could easily be strep. Some kinds don't respond to certain antibiotics and have to be hit with a different kind of antibiotic. Typically, if you aren't feeling better after a couple days (not well, just better)... call your doc to check in. Many strains of bacteria are resistant to the "standard" type of med. But many aren't. So docs usually start off with the standard, and if there's no improvement, will switch to the next heavy hitter. Each med has a different "timing" on it (aka some you start feeling better almost immediately, some they'll give 1-2 weeks, etc... so the phonecall is the only way to know unless they specifically said to check in after x number of days).

It could also be something completely different.

Take her in tomorrow and get her seen.

Yes and yes. As others have said, it could have been resistant to the original round of antibiotics or it could be the same strain that was never killed effectively. Starting in Jan of this year I got strep 5 times in 2 months and the final conclusion was that it had colonized in my tonsils and there wasn't a very effective way of killing it. Awesome. I hope it's not that, obviously, but take her back in for a strep test. If it comes back pos. have them culture it and and they can find out if it's resistant to something. If it is, that's actually good news, if it's not, keep your eyes open for another recurrance. Also, make sure she's taking ALL of the medicine and just the way it's directed. If that's a general problem (and I know I forget sometimes) you can probably just give her a penicillin shot, as long as it isn't resistant., that way it's once and done. Good luck, strep is the PITS!

yep, sometimes it takes more than one round of meds to clear the infection. Also this last time around, my son's dr said that there are several resistant types this winter & require culture to pinpoint the med needed.

Time for the dr again!
