Hello, everyone! This isn't about kids but I have a question none the less and i'm sure you wonderful women will have good suggestions! My brother has recently lost his job. He is a breath away from getting his bachelors in communications and has been working in IT for the last 10 yrs or so. He is a computer whiz! He's certified in just about everything. Does anyone have any ideas of companies that are hiring, good companies to work for, any leads etc. It just doesn't seem like there are any jobs out there! Any and all suggestions would be welcome!

What can I do next?

Your brother may want to consider going into business for himself. He may need to think outside of the box and use his newly learned communication skills to develop a business plan, marketing plan, and etc. to make himself useful and gain an income. It is time to think outside of the box, especially with this economy. Perhaps he can earn money by writing papers for fellow students, they provide him with the basic research and he does the actual paper.

You don't indicate what area of IT is his speciality but perhaps there are opportunities for him to earn money marrying those IT skills with his communications skills for a money earning business. He may have lost his job but opportunities are still available he just needs to create the future he wants by working what is already in his hands.

If he is on unemployment, there are opportunities there to receive help to update training and this may also be of help to him to finish school. He may qualify for dislocated worker federal monies through your state's unemployment office.

I hope this helps even though it wasn't directly what you asked.

I am looking for an experienced IT Project Manager for a client. Don't know whether he has the right skills w/o knowing more but he can send his resume to me: ____@____.com

Have some other positions as well.

If he has the right mindset for it starting his own business could be good too! I'd be happy to talk to him.

In addition to checking out the normal job search sites (Monster, CareerBuilder, Indeed, etc.), he should check out LinkedIn - it's a free, professional networking site. Great way to connect with other folks (similar backgrounds, future companies, etc.). Recruiters monitor LinkedIn so sometimes you can connect directly with a recruiter.

The problem with starting your own business is that it generally takes $$$ and you have to be willing/able to starve for awhile until your business takes off. Also, while a degree will certainly make you a bit more hire-able, I would be careful about creating too much debt counting on that.

No, there aren't A LOT of jobs - but he only needs one - and IT is one of the better fields to be in. He may not have a degree but, in IT, the certifications are very important.

Really not the right forum to post this question...

However, he should consider becoming a full-time student and applying for a student loan. He will be more "hirable" with his degree. Check school district employment sites, as they often have postings for IT specialists, but these all require a degree.

I am currently expanding a business that may be right up his ally. I would love to chat with him. Have him send his resume to 888-689-2385.
