M.I.
I have a flip, I got it for free last summer. Anyway, the batteries are regular double As, and they seem to last an OK time period. The view screen is small, but it comes with an adapter to plug in to a computer or TV to view.
Wondering if anyone has a viewpoint on a Flip video camera versus Kodak's version of the same type of handheld mini video camera. Does HD matter? Are the batteries (recharageable?) an issue? Easy to buy at a local store? Other things to consider? I think I've heard the Kodak screen is playback bigger, which seems to be a common complaint on the Flip.

I love my Flip camera. I use it to film my kids doing little things like Easter egg hunts and when they started walking, etc as babies. It is SO easy to upload from and has a built in part of the software that easily compresses and changes the format to email in Quicktime. It works great with both Mac and PC. I can also use it to make mini-movies with iMovie, though the quality is a little bit compromised...not a big deal for me, but might be for a more tech savvy person. I only watch the movies on the little Flip screen or on my computer. My kids love to watch themselves on it too!
I have never used the kodak, but I have used the flip camera at work. I liked the ease of the flip, ease to upload, ease to edit in other programs, ect. The battery lasts about 2 hours of continuous use.
I do not like the design of the wall charger for it. It would be ideal if most outlet were on the floor, but most are on the wall, so when you plug the usb into the charger and plug it into the wall, it is hanging from the charger.
other than my dislike of the charger, there has only been one problem. The camera froze once and was a pain to reset. Followed all the instructions that were online and it still would not reset. After calling for help, it finally reset. Haven't had a problem since, but a pain when it happened, which of course was at a time when we really needed the camera to work, which doesn't it always happen that way.
aside from the one problem, I don't think it has discouraged me in anyway of purchasing one for myself, I am still thinking about it.
It depends on what you want to use them for. We were about to get a Flip at Christmas, and thank Goodness I talked to the guy at Best Buy (and then finally at the camera store we go to who is much better versed).
If you're posting a lot of video to the internet, these cameras are great. If they're for home videos, it was strongly recommended NOT to get one of these - they only look good on a 19" TV or smaller (hence internet video being appropriate).
We ended-up with a Sony (more expensive) but better for what we wanted to use it for:

Good luck making your decision.
I'd also recommend going to a local camera shop and seeing what they recommend based upon how you want to use it and looking-up sites that have reviews from experts and other users.
