Has anyone experienced an allergic reaction to the flu shot? I got one earlier today and now I'm having a really hard time breathing. Any advice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I do not have an allergy to eggs, so I do not know why I had that reaction. I fell asleep and woke up fine. Not sure it is connected to the flu shot or not, but I will not be getting another one ever again!!!

If you are having a hard time breathing, call your doctor. Not being glib, but if you are having a hard time breathing, you need to be seen by a specialist, not seek anecdotal information on this forum.

If you are having a hard time breathing, get off the computer and have someone get you to ER or Urgent Care. This is not to be messed with on your own.

Do you have any allergy to eggs? They use a part of eggs in the vaccine.

Have you ever had a flu shot before? It's important that you talk to the doctor about this and get checked out. (I'm assuming you did this already by the time I'm writing.)

Of course, you need to get yourself to an Immediate Care Center. Immediately, if you think you are having trouble breathing.

Not very likely that it is an anaphylactic reaction to the flu shot, as it seems its been several hours since your shot, and the anaphylactic reactions are typically (but not always) within about 20 minutes of the vaccine.

Before a Flu shot is given, a form is given to the person to fill out.
It is a list of questions about the person and also includes if they have any allergies to eggs or other things.
And if so, the Flu Shot is not given, to the person.
Filling out this form, prior to getting the shot, is mandatory and given to all who want to get the shot.

You need to go to an Urgent Care or ER if you can drive. Or call an ambulance.
If you cannot breathe.

You should have been given a handout telling you to immediately contact your doctor if you developed such a severe symptom. Get yourself to medical care ASAP.
