Our pediatrician highly recommends that our kids get a flu shot. My 1 yr old just received a flu shot for the very first time today. My son will probably be getting his in about 6 weeks (also will be his first time getting one). Just curious if anyone has noticed any side effects with the flu shot? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

I respect the opinions of those who oppose the flu shot, but I choose to give my children the shots, and my 3 have had no side effects, no redness, nothing, but I'm sure you're doctor will tell you each child is different..

Hi M.,

I am one of these moms who chooses to vaccinate her children. I am speaking about my experience with my kids, and any of them after being given shots (vaccines or flu shots)have experienced any lasting or permanent side effects. They just had a very, very mild fever which last less than a couple of hours. The next day my kids were as active and normal as always.

Of all the possible adverse reactions to vaccines, and there are several, the medical world is just beginning to 'recognize' the effects of mercury toxicity. Although it has been 8 years since congress demanded that mercury be removed from the so-called 'required' childhood vaccines, it is common for mercury to still be used in the flu vaccine, even when administered to children, babies, and pregnant women. Mercury is a neurotoxin and has been biologically proven to cause neurological disorders and developmental delays. http://trusted.md/blog/vreni_gurd/2008/09/13/mercury_a_st...

What most doctors do not tell us is that children need to get sick in order for their immune systems to develop and organize themselves to know when to make a fever, when to sweat, when to flush systems, make rashes, etc. This develops and strengthens immunity skills the body need to negotiate the millions of bacteria and viruses it will encounter. I feel we have been sold a bill of goods and our children are suffering terribly as a result. The vaccine adverse reaction phone number is now listed in the blue pages of our phone books. There is a reason for that. One of the reasons is that it is the parent's responsibility to report such reactions. The vast majority of MDs fail to report those reactions and often focus attention on some other possible cause. They will even give vaccines to children following a concussion, when the brain is vulnerable to chemicals crossing the blood/brain barrier and can cause permanant brain damage and siezure disorders.

This is not something I 'believe'. These are things I've seen... far too many times. You are wise to be cautious.

Hi M. N.
I am probably not one to respond because I am anti-certain shots, one being the flu shot. I will try really hard not to sound to offensive and/or scare you.
Side-effects are the flu symptoms themselves; fever, chills, rash, aching muschles, running nose... they start out just like a cold, but continue and become worse with the fever. Did you make sure the flu shot was "chemical-based" not from "human-antibodies"??
There is just so much controversy. Did you know that the same shot mm's they gave your daughter will also be given to your 5 year old?? I don't want to scare you, but it bothers myself and many other moms/some physicians/philosphers/theologists/professors/chemists, etc... that overall pediatric doctors do not change the dosage of immunizations by size/pounds/age per child.
Also, since you did by pressure of your ped agree to the peds terms, then I would make them immunisize the whole family--they actually are suppose to, in order to avoid multiple insurance co-pay charges. Another discussion, some doctors will force each family member to come in for separate shots in order to collect multiple co-pays for multiple doctor visits to collect multiple payments from their patients and their insurance companies, another scam against families. Okay now that I have had my soap-box for the day.
Here is one more thought: Please, Please, do not allow your doctor to talk you into the MMR shot--if you have not given it to your daughter already. It is the worst shot out there, second to chicken pox and the flu. The MMR has caused more problems to more of my friends children, and millions around the world. Personally my son who was walking from 9 months old, was unable to walk for three days after that shot. It was a horrible experience. Again M., I apologize if I have scared you, I just want you to be aware of the "all-knowing Pediatricians". I question everything our Ped. says, especially since we have moved three times and my son has had four Peds in his little life. I really try very hard to keep on top their advice. Thankfully he has only been sick twice in his little 4 years of life, so I don't have to visit the Ped. very often, just for well-ness check-ups, and when they bring up shots...well, I go home and do a ton of research before they convince me into poking my child, yet I had to learn the hard way from the MMR experience.
Good Luck and God Speed, M. N.
