Hi, I want to tell you our experience w/Dr. Stevens, who was formerly Dr. Uceda when we had her. We've switched pediatrician since the last time we've been there. I also have a 3yr old. I particular like Dr. Stevens bedside manners BUT I don't find her to have as much medical expertise/experience as other doctors there. Sorry, I can't recommend you anyone else at that office. In the beginning, I had a wonderful pedi at that office who was the head of all of the TX children pedi assoc but he retired for missionary work. So that is why we were transferred over to Dr. Stevens. The reason why I don't prefer Dr. Stevens is because a lot of times when I ask her questions, she doesn't really know the answer and will say something like it's hard to say/tell or I don't know or we'll see, etc. The last time we were there was for a questionable ear infection. My son was holding his jaw and ear areas and I wasn't sure if his ears were hurting. I either suspected ear infection or teething/molars. I told her my suspicions. So Dr. Stevens examined my son and said that his ears looked perfect with no signs of an infection. At that time, my son was crying due to being terrified of being at the doctor's office...and of course he had a runny nose when he cries so hard, plus all the tears on his face. She said that he definitely had "very bad" cold and a virus so that is why his ears are hurting. I asked her how she knew because maybe she saw something that I didn't in her otoscope. She said "look at him...he has a bad runny nose". I told her that he gets a runny nose because he has been crying so hard and that I've not seen any respiratory signs and symptoms at all. I don't think she thought twice about what I said and she told me to watch for his ear infection in the next few days. I didn't agree with her medical judgement given that I'm very familiar in the medical field. I didn't tell her that though, but I did switch pedi. I hope that'll give you some further thoughts of seeing Dr. Stevens. Good luck in your decision.
