Seeking New Pedi in Champions Area Due to Bad Experience with Current One

We've had a bad experience with my daughter's current pediatrician. We just moved to the Champions/Louetta area and seeking new.

While my daughter (2 1/2) was staying the night with a grandparent she became ill. My mother-in-law treated her fever with Tylenol, but never took her temp. My daughter complained about her ears, so I assumed an ear infection and continued to treat with Tylenol until I could take her to her Pedi on Monday. My daughter has been seeing an ENT specialist about her ears, so an ear infection seemed to be the likely culprit. All the while I never took her temp (wasn't like she was burning up, she was just hot and uncomfortable). On Monday, her Pedi was unavailable, so we saw another Pedi in the same practice. The Pedi checked her ears, but they looked good. The Pedi then questioned why a temp wasn't taken and became extremely rude. She basically blamed me for not allowing her to get a proper diagnosis. She must have said at least 5 times that because you didn't take her temp, we have no way to see if the fever was more prevalent in the morning or at night, and when it peeke!
d. She was so ugly about it I was almost in tears. I felt like a horrible mom. The Pedi went on to say how my daughter was going to have to possibly go through unnecessary and expensive tests and possible x-rays and possible expose her to radiation because a temp wasn't taken. At the time it was pretty brutal, and hindsight I wished I would have stood up for myself. That's not the end of it. The nurse did a throat culture while my daughter was on my lap and her hands and fingers reeked of cigarettes. I was shocked and disgusted. Turns out she had strep throat, but I just can't believe how rude and unprofessional this office was. Please suggest Pediatricians that are GREAT with children & parents and are professional in the Champions area.

Thanks in advance for your help.

We go to the TX children's Pedi. office on Cypresswood (1960 Pedi. office) near stubner-airline. They are great! I haven't had a bad experience yet with rude people. We see Sheri Sandifer but from what I hear all are good. Give them a try.

We've been with the FM 1960 Pediatrics for years. Started over at Cypresswood and are now at the Cypress center. We've never had an issue with any of the peds. there.

Hope that helps!

I also recommend the FM 1960 Pediatrics at the Cypress center. We use Dr. Jennifer Trotter and really like her. She always answers our questions and is really helpful- never rushes you and is very personable. Sorry you had a bad experience- I had a bad experience with my first OBGYN and it really upset me- so I know how it feels to not stand up for yourself at the time because you are kind of in shock that it is happening! -

Take care!

I would not recommend FM 1960 Pediatrics - Cypresswood. We had several bad experiences with them.

We've started to see Dr. Laurie McKillip in The Woodlands. Her office is on Research Drive. And, even though we have to drive from the Champions area and it is farther, she and her staff are so worth the extra miles.

Good luck!!

I too have had bad experience with a pediatrician. We have a wonderful pedi, Dr. Seth Kravitz. He is in the new Kelsey-Seybold clinic off of the 249/Louetta. It is right behind that big new shopping center. The number is ###-###-####. Good luck, finding a good pedi is so important!

I have used the 1960 Pediatric Center since my daughter was born. Dr. Jennifer Trotter is my doctor. They are affiliated with Texas Children's. I have peace knowing that if anything happened my doctor would be available at TX childrens. They are located off 290 and Huffmeister, but I have found that a little bit of a drive is worth it! They also have an after care clinic on Cypresswood. Their website is www.texaschildrenspediatrics.org. I would HIGHLY recommend ANY of the doctors there. I have never had a time I went to either of these offices and left feeling that I did not get excellent care for my daughter- now age 3 1/2.

Good luck!

I grew up in the Champions area and now live on the other side of Spring. I am a registered nurse who worked in Hermann Hospital until i decided to stay at home and I am VERY tough on doctors. Just because they have a medical degree doesn't mean they know how to talk to patients or know what they are doing. That being said, I recommend 3 pedis... each are a bit of a distance for you. I take my kids to Woodlands Pediatrics w/ Dr. Bhakta. He is very professional and kind. An awesome doctor is Dr. Peilop out of BlueFish Pediatrics. He is a Christian and goes to my church and is very good. I read his website a lot... he is at Town and Country... numerous friends go to him. My daugters were born at Hermann and one was in the NICU... she saw Dr. Steve Alley in the Hermann Professional building who was great... but then again in the med center.
Don't beat yourself up over the temperature thing. That is ridiculous. The important thing was your child was given medication to take care of it and you took her to the dr. That is a what a good mother does!!!

God Bless, A. H.

A., sorry you had to go through that. I too, like another mom here, am picky about who sees my child. I'm in the medical field and prefer that they don't know that. I want to be treated fairly as anyone else. Prior to choosing a pediatrician, I would suggest talking to the receptionist or the nurse via phone and ask them about what they think about the doctor and who they would bring their children to if they had to choose. Many times, they'll be honest with you of who they prefer (even if you won't hear anything too negative). That'll hopefully help you get a sense of the doc. Although there are good docs at the TX Children Associates on Cypresswood, I didn't have a good experience with a particular doc. I won't get into it here. I switched to one at Steeplechase Pediatrics and have a wonderful pedi. She is respectful and educational and takes her time and is a wealth of knowledge for you. She is also kid-friendly, which is important for little ones. It's not in the Champions area but it's not too far from it. Here's the website: http://www.steeplechasepedi.com/
We use Dr. Rahman, who is the founder of that pedi group. Hope this helps and best to you on your next one. If you need more info, feel free to write back.

If every time a parent were able to change something that they wished they could do differently life would be one "bewitched" twitch after another. Okay so next time take her temps. You can't do it over again but you can request that you never see that doctor again. If the doctors in that practice rotate you may want to switch practices. There would have been a very kind way to have recommended to you that in the future you take her temp throughout the day to keep a record. Imagine if this were the doctor you ended up with in a serious situation say a hospitalization. Do yourself a favor find a new group. Parents kick themselves enough without being kicked even harder by the professional. Search search search until you find one you feel comfortable with. Do you know anyone at your church or work who have one they liked. KNow any nurses in the area? They are usually a great source for good references. J. a pediatric nurse!!

That behavior is unacceptable and should be reported. Of all the medical practices a Pediatrician as well as their office staff should be the most polite and welcoming. You and your daughter should never have had to endure such unprofessional behavior. Is there a medical board you could report them to? It sounds like you aren't the only one that's had a problem there. I commend you for finding another doctor for your precious little one! I certainly would not step one foot back in that office.

I really like Dr. Stevens at the FM 1960 Pediatric Clinic (part of Texas Children's Pediatrics). It is on Cypresswood near Myer park. The problem with the practice is that they are so busy that sometimes it is hard to be seen when your child is sick. On the plus side, there are a lot of pediatricians in case yours isn't available and they even have evening hours.

Ours isn't too close to Champions but they were highly recommended to me and I love the docs- Karr and Rose in Tomball. Very down to earth and easy to talk to. Sounds like you had a lot of response here. There was one nurse who fussed at me over the phone when my baby girl was about 3 months old and I came so close to changing pediatricians because of her attitude, but then remembered how much I like the docs. Maybe they don't know how she was. So now I just ask for a certain nurse that is very easy with me. The first one knew I was a first-time mom and pretty much disciplined me for having our baby sleep in our room. She told me to let the baby cry for hours to take a nap if thats what it takes. I know some people are all for the CIO method but I couldn't take it after 45 minutes and never tried it again. Our little one learned all on her own and started sleeping thru the night around 3-4 months, with occasional wakenings since then but nothing that I mind. I was like you, wishing I could stand up for myself but its so hard when you are going to them for advice and direction and they treat you like that. Who is the one paying who ??? :)
