So we went to the ER and they said no more sucking on pineapples or apples. Well I am wondering if his Ezcema and him not wanting to eat is becuase of these things?? I breast feed and that is it, is it possible that he is getting these things through my milk? He only eats 4 min on one side every 3 hours!! :( He use to be a great eater and no temper. No he won't eat and cries all the time. I really could use help I have tried everything!! Any suggestions would be great!!
Sorry to everyone that has already read this...but I did forget to add that I have seen Dr's and they have said he has bad allergies and all of that. But we really don't know what is causing the nursing prblem.

If you are eating it then it is going through. I was breast feeding my son and he was such a crybaby I didn't know what to do. I asked the dr if he was or could be allergic to my milk and he said that was imposable. I was thinking that it wasn't Well I didn't breast feed him for much longer we only lasted for like 4 months. When he went to formula we had to try diffrent ones. Soy was the one that we ended up useing for him. I was drinking so much milk when I was breast feeding and I'm sure that's what is matter was. I felt so bad and sad that the dr wasn't willing to even help. I don't really like dr's to say the least. But to each there own. I would try to keep track of what you are eating and write everything down. Maybe take a day or two and just eat simple foods and see if that helps. My heart is weeping for you and your baby. Just know you are doing the best you can with what you can. Maybe you can pump some to keep up your supply and see if that helps. I know what you are going through, I'm sending (((some much needed hugs)) good luck.

It is really important that you introduce solid foods one at a time. I used to mix it with the cereal to ease them into the flavor and then if they did have an adverse reaction to the food it was not so severe because they were introduced to such a small amount. Give each food type a week before you try something new and try to start with banana's or pears.

If you little guy does not want to eat at all it may be that something is hurting him when he swallows. Especially if he cries alot. Try tugging gently on his ear lobes. If he cries or responds as if in pain then you should take him in, chances are he has and ear infection. I nursed my son as well and we are told that doing so will help prevent allergies. My son takes allergy meds every day of his life and has since he was 18 months old. That was when the ear infections stopped and he actually started to fill out a little. He is a happy 8 year old that is in all sports and never stops going. Good luck!

If your baby doesn't start nursing more, you might have to talk to doctor about trying formula as well. He is probably crying because possibly he is not getting enough to eat.

Since we're on the topic of food allergies, here's something I learned in a medical immunology class: One way kids can develop peanut/nut allergies is thru their skin. So, if you want to massage your baby, do not use peanut or nut oils. Stick with jojoba or mineral oils, or even Lubriderm. Like another poster said, a single exposure probably won't do anything (kids under 1 don't have much of an immune system), but repeated exposure can change things.

Hi F., My son went through a similar thing at that age so I know how frustrating it must be for you! He went from eating great and being a really happy baby to crying all the time and eating less... The most important thing is to talk to your doctor. Every baby is different and there can be a number of different causes. My son was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on medication. I drank a lot of milk, and my doctor said that one of the milk proteins was prob. causing it. I started drinking rice milk (I think soy is gross) and kept breastfeeding and pretty soon my son grew out of it and stoped needing medicine. (he's a year old and recently started drinking cow's milk too and he's been fine)I've also heard that some baby's get a similar sensitivity to wheat, so your Dr might mention that.

As for the eating for 4 min on one side... I asked my nurse about that when my son started that too. She just said that as time goes on, baby becomes more of a "PRO" at eating and can drain the breast faster than before. Don't worry about baby not getting enough to eat as long as he's not losing weight. Also your milk production will keep up with him (that whole supply/demand thing) When my son stopped nursing on both sides, I would feed him on one side, pump the other side so I wasn't sore, and the next time switch what side he ate from. (a good way to build up an extra milk supply in the freezer too)

Eczema can be caused by several things including heredity, and outside irritants, and changing diet can sometimes help in babies, but is usually a last resort. You should go on this website, they have a lot of info on it... http://www.eczema.org/faqfile.htm

As for the diet thing, babies under 6 months old can't yet digest foods properly and feeding them certain foods at a young age can actually CAUSE food allergies. (don't freak out though, cuz it usually takes a little time for this to happen, so if you gave baby that stuff once you prob didn't cause any harm) On the flip side, if a baby shows signs of a food allergy, and you stop feeding them that food... then they usually grow out of it as their digestive system develops more (meaning baby might be able to eat apples and pineapple later down the road)

Have you tried to pump to see how much milk you are producing? That could be one of the things that is making your baby on feed for a few minutes on each side. Did you eat these things before giving them to him directly, if so I would not think that was the problem.

My little nephew was allergic to so many things while he was younger, but as he got a little older he started to grow out of his food alergies.

Since he has ezxcema, did the hospital give you a prescription for his skin? My nephew also used a pretty powerful cream on his face for rashes and after it being applied he would not want to eat. If you do use a cream on his face then I would sugges you use it right after feeding so it doesn't interfere with eating.

If he does not want to eat soon then I would take him to see your family doctor to try and determine what was going on.

Um wow four and a half month children should not be having anything but rice cereal and breast milk at that age. Try just giving him cereal and breast milk for a while and see if that helps, his tummy is probably just upset.

first, how do you know that it's allergies? Did a doctor tell you, because many may alergies don't really start to mainfest as a defineable allergy until later. Our doctor said that we shouldn't give kids anything other than formula/breastmilk until 6 mos (maybe rice cereal) as their digestive system is still developing and those are the easiest for them to break down.

Pineapple has citric acid in it and that can be very rough to digest. not sure about the apples. but I would venture to say that it may have been more to do with the acidicness that maybe irritated his stomach. Eczema is usually a skin rash which can be caused by acidicness.

Every food we eat has an acidic level the higher it is the harder it can be to break down. Even if you breastfeed it can bother babies. You've done most of the break down, but there's still some that the baby needs to do in order to process.
